Would it be possible when you look up a user's posts if a list of their posts came up rather than a list of the threads to which they posted? Just wondering.

I have thought of this too; I think it would be a good idea, if possible.

I don't think that I understand the question. You want to only see a user's posts, separate from the thread (and context) the post was made in?

There's really no way to display a list of a user's posts outside of the context of a thread the post was made in. Posts do have unique IDs in the database. I could change the search results in a way that when you click through to the thread it automatically jumps to a user's most recent post made in that thread. (or something along those lines.)

Actually, I think he's asking if there is a way to search for threads which a poster has initiated (only) rather than all threads to which a poster has contributed.

It might be nice to have the capability of searching for initial thread posts only but not at the expense of a search of all contributions to threads.

Actually, I imagine he's hoping for the search to provide links to the actual posts, not to the threads.

For instance, if someone posted one response to, say, the Teagan thread, the current search result won't help you find which of the 100 pages to look on. You have to read the whole thing.

Essentially I'm talking about how it's done on most other boards.

That's how I figured out what you were talking about.

I'll work on it.

try this

This is a test/development page. please let me know if you see any bugs. I'll do the click-through-to-specific-post functionality when we're happy that the search results are Kosher. (That's a little difficult because of the paging mechanism is specific to the user's profile.)

If you use the All Forums -> Search Form navigation instead of clicking the Search link at the top right you can stick to the testing page.

BTW you should now also be able to combine the 'Search by Member' and 'Search for' fields. It's an "and" logic type of function that enables you to search for posts my a specific member that include the words in the 'search for' field.

While I'm tinkering with the forum search pages, would you like to be able to save commonly used search criteria as part of your profile? I already have this type of functionality in place for the price search saved searches feature. It would be fairly straightforward to apply it to the forum searches too.

I just tried it! This is great Drew! I didn't see any bugs, and particularly liked the "and' functionality to further filter out specific posts in the results. It worked great for me.

I think the saved searches would be neat too. It would, among other things, allow some of us to more easily reference topics of the past that are commonly revisited in the present.

I'll work on the clicking to specific post stuff later tonight. When I get that done I'll make it all live.

I'll look into implementing the saved searches feature later this weekend. If it's easy to implement I'll take care of that too.

This feature is really useful Drew. Thanks for developing it.

One request though, can you please allow a choice to access the old style search when required?

In the past I used search to find "Active topics I have posted in". Now the "unread" indicator appears to go with the post rather than the thread, so I can no longer do this.

I like it, I like it.

It was never that much of a problem for single page threads, but for multi-paged threads it consumed a fair amount of time searching for the post.
