Constant cutaways: do people who edit these scenes actually watch the final product?

Joking around during the sexual acts. As per above. And when it's the (male) director themselves that engages in this during the sexual acts, it drives me absolutely bonkers.
That every woman had to be young, white and slim. But then, I suppose that's just the entertainment industry in general. If a female performer is older, of colour, fuller figured, does it really have to some kind of fetish?
Can I ask if it was a conscious decision to move away from these standard porn tropes; and make scenes for viewer?
Ok SS, I'll do my best to give insights to go along with answers to your list of questions. But keep in mind some of the answers will contain my personal take/opinion to go along with actual facts here-there since we all had our own way of shooting our scenes and creating the necessary vibes to have our days run as smoothly as possible.
1. Cuts; Once I was in the RLD/PXP environ, I was made aware real quick how important it was to minimize how often you stopped/started (cut) your camera, for any scene, not just blowbangs. It was part of the culture there to sit in with whoever was chopping your movie to learn when/where cuts were problematic or not. Sitting in the edit bay helped you learn to take what you shot more serious so that you knew in real time as you were recording what your editor was going to have to deal with good/bad. As far as applying that to blowbangs specifically- that mostly had to do with being omni-prsent to what's going on and off around you, and ones instincts with your camerawork. (ergo-what made some people better shooters than others) Cuts ARE important, I was not a believer in EVERY scene had to have less than 5-10 cuts..., some days just didn't allow that because of what/whom you had booked that day, and if you held on too tightly to that mantra, then you could unravel on days where the talent weren't on their A-game, yet you still needed to get your scene in the can.
Lastly-the connection between shooter and editor varied around the business back then, and (IMO) not many really paid attention to these details because of how much money was being made off of poorly shot porno. From 98'-06', the dvd companies were PRINITNG money, and very few even cared if what they shot was actually any good or had any real nuance with camerawork, set/performer vibe, editing prowess, etc...
2. Talking Down to Female Talent- If you were a director that wanted that in your scene..., then who am I to say anything about it. Personally, I think that's a really lame dynamic unless the scenario calls for it. But also keep this in mind- certain male performers were more prone to that type of verbal discourse, so you can solve that problem by not hiring them in the first place. And to be honest, the worst offenders were usually lower-tiered dudes, of which I didn't hire too often. But in the scenes where I did, I NEVER had a problem letting everyone who was in charge on set, and I was never challenged verbally or physically whenever I had to step in and straighten performers out or get them to not yap too much.
3. Director/Male Performer Excess Joking- Early in my career I shot Gangbangsquad (dot) com, and was pretty guilty of this in a lot of those scenes, but that was a very important part of my learning curve as my career progressed. It is VERY easy to feel like we're all in this together and lighten the mood as we run the camera and try to get the scene in the bag. I don't think but maybe 15%-20% of all of the directors in my era were self-aware enough to see that this was lame, and that it completely takes the viewer OUT of a personal connection to the action while they're trying to 'enjoy' themselves. Too many of my contemporaires of that time (directors) were taking THEMSELVES waay too seriously, but not the finished product and how it did/didn't work for the fans. They were all concerned about the girls liking them or f*cking them off camera since so few of them had the moxy (or even ability) to push into the POV ranks like I did and work with the girls on an even playing field. That's a bit of a harsh take, but I stand behind it, and have no problem saying that to anyone's face.
4. Skinny/Traditional Types vs. Non...- I feel this had a lot to do with how RLD/PXP had a lot of TRUE pornographers/directors at the core who knew what was hot, regardless of what the rest of XXX was using/believing was trendy in re: female performers looks/body type. Me, Vince, Mike, Everhard- we all liked HOT chicks, regardless of age, ethnicity, or popularity. Again, not to sound like a broken record here, but we were all shooters that were able to think for oursleves 100% of the time, which is what made RLD/PXP so dominant those years.. We shot hotter scenes because all of our instincts were better. Our handheld camera chops were better. Our on set vibe/presence was better. I mean from 03'-06' only Evil Angel had directors that could keep up with us on a movie-movie basis and if anyone disagrees then pull up the releases and put them side-side and we'll go from there... RLD/PXP was DOMINATING back then, which had everything to do with their director roster of which I was a VERY small part of as I was surrounded by (at the time) some of the premiere gonzo icons making movies every month.
Those instincts only solidified as the years moved along and I hade more-more say in who was cast in my scenes regardless of where, or who I was shooting for. If company owners never held cameras and only cast scenes based on trends/analytics/rankings, then all you're going to have is a rinse-repeat talent pool to go along with rinse-repeat studios making trite, safe porno.
