If a thread for that review already exists, it could post the comment at the end of that thread. It might provide some insights for those of us who don't write enough reviews to improve by simple experience. OTOH, it might fill up with pointless bickering when someones favourite movie gets slammed or vice versa. Good idea? Terrible idea?

Some people review several movies per week. I think a review should stand on its own as the reviewer's last word on the subject, unless he or she chooses to discuss the movie further. In other words, I think it should be accepted without complaint if a reviewer doesn't wish to discuss a movie beyond what they wrote in their review. However, I think reviews can be a good jumping-off point for lively discussion among the all forum members. Just my $0.02. |

A secondary entry point could be a new forum with one thread for each review with comments. That way the regular search function could be used on the comments. |

| MLyons Senior Member 1617 Posts 8/02 | I certainly agree that reviews of movies can be a great jumping off point for some cool discussion. I've used my own reviews for this purpose with great results in the past, but on the other hand, I'm afraid, like others, that this kind of thing would end up being more of a discussion of the review rather than the movie, and I'm not sure that should be encouraged unless the particular reviewer is specifically asking for such discussion. I think if it WERE done, then it should be to encourage discussion of the movie, rather than discussion of the review or the reviewer's opinion. And even then, I just... don't know. If someone has a differing view from the reviewer, why not write your own review? It's what we've always encouraged. More people will read it than anything you post in the forum, and that way the discussion remains about the movie rather than debating the "rights" and "wrongs" of individual taste. If a reviewer is honestly looking for critiques about reviewing style, that of course is perfectly acceptable, but different reviewers like that criticism delivered in different ways. Some have started forum topics for that purpose (which as I understand it, is perfectly allowed), and some prefer email feedback. Some privately solicit feedback from reviewers thay admire (a very effective method, I might add). And some don't want feedback at all. Anyway, I'm one of those that really enjoys public discussion of reviews, and I see the value of that for those who are trying to write better ones. It's always a fine line to walk, though, and it can get kind of spiteful and silly in a hurry. I'm just not sure that opening the doors to discussing review styles for every review that's written is a great idea--at least not without some guidelines in place, and some moderators that are willing to enforce them. But that's just me. The bottom line is that we want to encourage people to write reviews--and express whatever opinion they want to express about a movie. I just think this kind of thing has to be delicately handled, lest our reviews and the people who write them become too much a product of peer pressure and less that of honest reactions. Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm just talking out of my ass, as usual. :) |

And I don't want reviewers discouraged by the idiots who get off on internet trolling. Or getting pressured by producers. |

| howie Member 144 Posts 11/03 | I vote -1 for the review board. I wouldn't want to spend time defending my review to others, especially directors/performers/studio reps. I've had 2 instances of directors e-mailing me in private about my poor rating for a movie, both of which left a poor taste in my mouth. Also, a current thread in the Porn Pool asks that reviewers point out if the female is barefoot in each scene. I wouldn't want to monitor threads on my 100 reviews for such requests. Then again I have no idea if people read my reviews or skip over them. |

ive dabbled with this idea in a few of my reviews as have other reviewers like Crucifixio. at the end of this review here there is a link to one of the forum threads on the movie. https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/reviews/read_review.dlt/sku=12606/second-thoughts.htm its also a good way for the directors or performers in the movies themselves to get direct feedback. As you can see, director Stormy herself discussed her movie openly in that thread, as well as Michelle Lay [ invalid url ] Edited by - MASAMUNE on 1/17/2006 7:53:25 AM |
