Taylor, Jewel Dé Nyle, Danielle Rogers, Evan Stone, and John Decker; 4 minute outtake/bloopers reel; special effects reel; 13-minute deleted scene; trailers for Video Virgins Gold Volumes 1-4 and North Pole Volumes 4 & 5; 1999 CES show preview trailer; and 80-picture photo gallery The First Word: Take an Andrew Blake-like film and package it like a mainstream DVD (just look at all of the features), and you've got a winner on your hands. Plot Synopsis: Hey, this plot sounds familiar: Take a girl (Jewel Dé Nyle), plug her into a computer/virtual reality chair, and see her fantasies. While this may be a twist on the classic Andrew Blake movie, Night Trips, with its excellent special effects and hot vignettes, Electric Sex has a feel all its own. As is the style of the genre, the sex segments are titled: "Blue Steel" with Alexandra Silk and Evan Stone; "Blind Faith" with Jewel, John Decker, and Teri Star; "Water & Oil" with Danielle Rogers and Taylor Moore; "Hot & Wet" with Jewel and Vince Vouyer; "Neurodancer" with Johnni Black and Kyle Stone; and "Cybersex Girls" with Jewel, Felicia, Cassandra Knight, and Lisa Romero. The virtual reality wrap-around plot is pretty rudimentary, existing only to tie a bunch of nice looking scenes together. Notable Performances: Although most people like the threesome scene "Blind Faith" the most, my favorite scene in the entire movie was the "Blue Steel" fantasy with Alexandra Silk. It's got everything a red-blooded, testosterone-filled guy likes: a wet 'n soapy, leggy, dirty talking, naturally endowed girl getting screwed on the hood of a $70,000 Dodge Viper. This scene is worth the price of the disc alone. Other notable scenes include the "Blind Faith" scene, which I liked, but I'm not too fond of Jewel's fake tits. She's got a nice body otherwise and a great attitude, but at times you can clearly see the implants bulging from under the skin--ewwwww. "Water & Oil" features another Blake inspiration: lesbians with ice dildoes. I probably would have enjoyed it more if the blooper reel and commentary didn't show Taylor Moore being a real bitch on set. Finally, the ending lesbian mini-orgy uses some homemade sex toys created out of flashlights, vaccuum cleaner hoses, and translucent dildoes--that's right, they glow! Dislikes: While there aren't any bad scenes in the feature, I thought that some of the scenes worked a lot better than others. I also didn't care for some of the casting choices, although the commentary pretty much said that it depended a lot on who was available to work on the days that they had the shooting location. The feature is kinda short too...six sex scenes plus a brief intro with Jewel masturbating. 80 minutes is a bit short for films with lots of foreplay--I would have liked to have seen another 15 minutes or so. DVD Notes: Like I said, this DVD has all of the "special collector's edition" features that you'd find on a mainstream DVD. You've got a great commentary by the cast and crew that's really funny and offers a lot of insight into the production of an adult film. It's great to hear them say things that I would say in a commentary, such as "Oh, there's the magically appearing condom!", "Wow, you're shooting [cum] everywhere BUT her face!", "Gee, you're LOUD!", and "There's Kyle Stone's transparent dick." I can also see why most adult stars never watch the films they are in. It's really strange to be in a room of people who are critiquing your sexual performance, or even worse, having to comment on it yourself. The animated menus are Hollywood quality, as are the special effects (which Nic Andrews did himself--I suspect that his day job is in Tinseltown). The special effects reel looks very similar to ones you see on mainstream discs: shots of the original coverage, the matte, the effects shot, and then the final composite. The only snafu they made was to misspell "lightning"--it's not "lightening." There's additional footage too! We'll start off with the outtake reel, which has about four minutes of bloopers (many of which Nic alludes to in the audio commentary). They are good for either their comic value (such as Alexandra Silk cracking up while getting fucked in the ass) or technical insight (such as how they filmed Danielle Rogers emerging dry out of the swimming pool). Then there's a complete 13-minute sex scene that they discarded and reshot later (with different talent and a different location) because the director didn't like how it looked. It's there, in its entirety, except without any music (since it was cut before the music was scored for the movie). Lastly, the audio and video quality are just about perfect. The soundtrack is actually a Dolby 2.1 mix (stereo with a low frequency channel) and sounds great with the special effects. The high quality video footage was probably transfered directly from the hard drive on the computer editing station to the digital master, so there's no loss typically associated with a VHS master. About the only improvement I would make is to increase the volume level of the commentary--I had to crank my receiver way up just to hear everybody. The Last Word: Buy it. If you like Jewel, you'll like it. If you enjoy classy adult films, you'll like it. If you are looking for a film with some extended foreplay, you'll like it. If you like balls to the wall fucking, you'll like it. If you are interested in the production aspects of porn, you'll like it. If you like DVDs with lots of features, you'll like it. You catch my drift...
