Around when I first began reviewing for ADT (11 years ago), Howard put up a notice here looking for people willing to review Vivid's product. I volunteered, having liked what they'd put out since I started watching porn in the mid-90's, and I ended up reviewing their stuff from that time through a bit past his leaving the company to start Exile. I reviewed some of the early titles that Exile distributed, as well, and it was Howard who hooked me up with a brief--due to Penthouse stopping their DVD line at the time--stint as the reviewer for Penthouse magazine. He distributed their discs at that point, as well. During this time and after, I've interacted with him fairly frequently, and I'd have to say that he was always a cool dude. He never pushed for a "good review". He always valued honesty in what was written, and I appreciated that. (Of course, he was equally quick to take the good things that were written and promote them... as any good salesman would. ;) ) He's been battling cancer for awhile, now, and it's finally gotten him. Like I said, very sad. RIP, Howard. You were awesome. Gone way too soon. [Link] |

That was a huge part of our success at Vivid. The interaction with our fans, the consumers. That was him! The feedback from all of you was indeed most important to him and he did make many changes over the years from your recommendations. The negative as well with an unbiased view. He was my mentor in this business and a dearest friend. He fought stage 4 with all he had for over 3 1/2 years. He even got a big tattoo on his forearm that read, FUCK CANCER. That was Howard. Sadly I never took up the offer as I'm in the UK and think for shipping I would have needed to provide passport as proof etc. [Link] |
