I'm kinda surprised Risi didn't do some magazine modeling. I'm sure she would have been a natural at magazines like Barely Legal, Hawk, Live Young Girls, Just 18, Tight, Lollypops, and many others in that genre. problem with those sites is no matter how hot the girl it's just her and her boyfriend doing the same scene over and over again. hard to justify paying every month to watch the same thing even if she is smoking.
Respectfully, I disagree. There are dozens of other girls out there with a significant following of paying subscribers at $30/month and they get ALL that money (and expenses as well), not something like $1000 a scene for a DVD that sells maybe 15,000 copies. And they get to control the content, the performers they want to work with and the distribution channel completely. More importantly, they truly are running their own business and not just paid talent working to make someone else rich. And the vast majority of the girls are doing their own websites....just go down a list of your popular ones and then check how many have their own "brand of me" websites up and running. The nice thing about websites is that it's quite easy to keep the revenue flowing just pushing your stable of "exclusive" content that you can't get from the DVD's. There was a thread here not long ago about how much $$ is now being spent on web-based porn content and how it's mostly at the expense of DVD's. The difference is the economic model...this is $$ going to the performers and not to the distributors. Directors are getting cut out of the equation, I'm sure, but the smart performers are cashing in on their brand image. Here's just a few names you may not know about as "porn stars" but given their ranks of paid subscribers, they are raking in a nice haul completely on their own: Brooke Skye Alison Angel Bobbi Billard Mya Diamond Lia 19 Brandi Belle Eve Angel Ivana Fukalot Sweet Sophie Moone Carly Moore Sandee Westgate Kat Young Kate of Kate's Playground .....etc etc etc To my mind, doing porn the current way of moving to LA and running the porn rat-race of 5-6 hour shoots for a $1000 seems rather inefficient to what you could make with a website and a good marketing plan. Of course, most of the smarter women I've seen in this business are doing a bit of both. They do porn for the marketing (they get paid to be marketed basically) and then set up their own websites with exclusive content to help keep the cash flow moving -AND- as a backup revenue stream for when their popularity eventually wanes...which it will in the vast majority of cases.
Given that the smart people in the biz, like Vivid and Jenna Jameson, are in the website business--and ensure that they have control over the sites of their contract girls, my guess is there's money to be made.
LubeNLuv, I have to agree with you about a lot of porn stars having websites in addition to, rather than instead of, their DVD output. But I just wanted to comment that Mya Diamond no longer owns the website named for her. That's just one example showing that websites aren't always big cash cows for the girls compared to shooting for DVDs in LA. They can be, but webmasters and web business accountants aren't necessarily going to be any more honest or ethical than their counterparts in the porn DVD business. Or less, I suppose.
^^^ Thanks for the link back. I had actually read about that "tiff" between Mya and her website operator. The site must have been worth something to cause that kind of a ruckus. But what allegedly happened was her domain and content was shared with someone else who legally took it from her against her wishes. Clearly, if you are going to do your own website, get an attorney involved up front to protect your brand.
I don't know, I just watched the scene at Pure 18 and enjoyed it. She may not be quite as over the top passionate as some other performers, but I thought she acquitted herself nicely.
