You can call me crazy or spiteful, but I speak for everyone in this business who has had to lay down at the altar of Paul Fishbein, who has been afraid to speak out because he thought the ramifications of such would kill his business. Each of these "little guys" has confessed to me in private what I am now stating publicly: AVN is all about politics and juice and has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of videos. I defy anyone out there to say otherwise. So fuck you, Paul Fishbein, and Monday morning October 9th will signal your death knell.

Cheesy and amateurish are the two adjectives that I think best describes it. And these guys really think they're going to put AVN out of business? This publicity stunt may have people talking about Extreme, but as a consumer, I know money talks & bullshit walks. So guys, spend the money , and at least get a professional to design your website, because if it's in any way indicative of the quality of your product, I think I'll steer clear. [Link] |

In 1997, Bad Wives (a film I had a scene in)won best film at AVN. Rob and I were together, and I went over to the director, Paul Thomas, to congratulate him. Rob proceeded to scream at me in public, asking me how I could betray him by going up to a "piece of shit director and congratulate him." I said I guess AVN must have overlooked all the "quality" work that had been put out by Rob the previous year, not to mention that Rob has never shot anything on film in his life. Anyway, let him talk, but pay him no attention. He always used to say, "Any publicity is good publicity, especially if it's free." [Link] |

I am not a big fan of AVN's virtual monopoly on some aspects of the industry either but actions like his won't change that. Can any of you give me a better idea about what kind of power AVN holds over the industry currently? (I have some idea but y'all would have better firsthand knowledge-thanks) [Link] |

The move will be effective the end of this month. Ross says, unlike some of the shenanigans that got reported on the geneross.com site last week, this scenario is legit. "Although his recruiting tactics are a bit unorthodox, Rob Black can be a bit persuasive to say the least," said Ross. Ross was referring to a series of stunts straight out of Black's XPW wrestling league when, last Monday afternoon Black, along with 10 company employees bulldozed his way into the AVN lobby, uttered a litany of profanities and attacked a potted plant. Black was subsequently arrested and handcuffed by actors posing as LAPD. Black followed that up with two in-your-face e-mails sent to AVN followed by a delivery of black roses and dead fish which were delivered to the AVN offices Friday afternoon. Black now admits the whole deal was a setup and a publicity stunt to call attention to a gimmick called "E-Days". Black apologizes to anyone who took the events as real, that his actual intention was to bring Ross over to his company. Ross said Black called Saturday asking him if he enjoyed his "present". Ross told Bl;ack that he had already left the office Friday afternoon when the fish and roses were delivered and that the effect was completely lost on him. It was then that Black invited Ross to his house Sunday afternoon "to watch some fucking football". It was at that time that Black and business partner Tom Byron unveiled the elaborate scenario and made a heavy pitch to Ross citing his vast experience in the business. Black said he had to keep Ross in the dark about what he was doing with E Days in order to make the gimmick look as real as possible. Ross told Black he would think about the offer, and, after a day of deliberation, informed AVN publisher Paul Fishbein, the events of the weekend and his intentions to leave AVN. Says Fishbein: "Gene-"Gene came to me this morning and told me he wanted to leave AVN and try his hand at something new. After 14 years, it has come as a shock. However, he has been a wonderful employee and a great friend and much of the success of AVN can be attributed to him. Through thick and thin, Gene has been the glue that has kept the magazine together. "I wish Gene the best of luck in his new endeavor. He'll always be an AVN guy." Gene sez: "I'll have more to comment, but I wanted to post this story as soon as possible from my mouth and not indulge the rumor mill." Ross says Black is the younger retarded brother he never had and, thus, feels a kinship with him. [Link] |
