(Personally, I will go out of my way to actively avoid any movie in which he appears, simply because I find him to be such a turn off. I think he's physically, intellectually, emotionally, and sexually unattractive.) I gather that when he started out he got a name for himself due to his rather large endowment - and, I suppose, the vast number of movies he made so that anybody who was exposed to pornography couldn't help but know who he was. But was that the only reason that he developed a following? Why would his name not have faded by now, given the larger playing field he's within? Perhaps people find him "attractive" for the very reason that he is so unattractive - being drawn to the perverse as it were? But, whatever the reason, I find his popularity almost as disturbing as the man himself. BTW: I should mention here that this is just my somewhat uneducated opinion and I would be genuinely interested in hearing positive things about him. I'd like to think that he's a nice guy in person, has made some good contributions behind the scenes, or has even appeared in some movies in which he added to the scenes he was in (other than in anatomical close-ups). So - are standards higher these days? Since everybody keeps making derogatory comments about RJ every time his name comes up these days - I take it that he could never make it in the business (at least in terms of his icon status) if he started from a clean slate now. Whenever Ron was going to travel somewhere, he would always call up some of his girlfriends to let them know that he was going to be in town. This would just amaze the guys that Ron ran with. And don't forget, Ron Jeremy has such mass appeal, that a major Hollywood motion picture (a documentary) was made with him as the subject: Porn Star - The Legend of Ron Jeremy. That movie opened gradually throughout North America and Canada from November 30, 2001 to May 10, 2002. The movie is due out on video and DVD on March 25, 2003. (Apparently those were either greatly exaggerated or simply one-sided.) In any case, I'm glad to hear that there are real reasons for his popularity and that it's not just a matter of consumers perverse nature at work. I will certainly not make the mistake of being prejudicial against him again. (Perhaps one basis for my unfairness was that I've simply happened to only see him in terrible movies - which, given how many he's been in, was probably not that far-fetched.) [Link] |
