He certainly doesn't appear (to me) to be at all physical attractive, which one would think would be a primary requirement, at least to get started. I read somewhere that his nickname was "The Mole" (or was it badger?). Yet, Ron Jeremy has had a very long and successful career. According to iafd - he started in the business at age 26 (1979) and he is still working. He has 1930 performer credits, 268 director credits, was a producer and even spokesman for the industry. I saw him on prime time TV a few years ago commenting on the absurdity of someone being kidnapped, held hostage and forced to appear in porn films. I've seen him on a number of those tabloid talk shows over the years when the topic has to do with porn. One show back in '95, Geraldo, had Ron, Debi Diamond, Christina Angel(talking about that flick Dogwalker) and someone else I can't remember. I think the topic was about stalking and Christina was pissed about the subject because as if I recall she had a stalker problem at the time. Ron on many of those shows can take really strong insults, as he did in this particular show, from audience members about being in porn and by the time he finishes answering the question he has won that particular audience member over and the audience is all laughing.[Link] |

He shows up at celeb parties and functions and just became fairly well known outside of porn. And as he once said himself the more famous you become you become more famous and it just feeds on itself. Also taking bit parts in mainstream movies and doing reality shows helped in his popularity. But...in the actual world of porn is Ron really that big a success? Yeah, Ron's been around awhile but so have some other porn guys. However the other older porn guys are directors and have their own companies or line of movies and do work behind the camera. Ron didn't seem to really build a sucessful career in porn like those guys did and still has to perform in front of the cameras to keep his porn career going...and it ain't pretty. [Link] |
