Jim Powers is constantly written off as a prolific hack who can't shoot good porn to save his life. (There was this guy on rame back in the day who really hated Powers and thought he ruined every film he touched.) I think he puts all critics to shame with this series. It's not perfect - one and two are unjustifiable as 2-dvd sets because the extras are crap. That said, the features have: - excellent videography and studio lighting - creepy, erotic set-ups/plots - great costumes, with an emphasis on great colour choices for the visual image - a genuinely sleazy mood to the films - a visual and audio polish rarely seen in gonzo - sex much edgier than the standard feature Fuck Slaves was a great release, and there's not the constrained anarchy of a Jake Malone release, but Powers really has a good thing going with Dementia. It's quality porn. End of. [Link]

On that understanding: !) No - the trailers are more intense than the films... (this might also be true of Fuck Slaves though) 2) I don't recomend 1 or 4 if you are looking for the kinky, nasty, fetishy aggressive porno-sex I think you are looking for. The series is a rip-off of The Fashionistas. The "story" is useless. The outfits are uninspired. HH is a cold fish 90% of the time IMHO. I think what Powers does with the Girlvert series is genius and this isn't. [Link]

Click to expand +1 about Hannah Harper but I would also include her stuff in the Sodom series also directed by Jim Powers which is kind of like Dementia without all (or at least some) of the fetish costuming. Her scenes in Sodom 2 smoke, so does her Dementia scenes. A note to Harper fans she is not IIRC in Dementia 3 but Hillary Scott is an acceptable replacement. [Link]

Click to expand The series is a rip-off of Fashionistas in about the same way that Grey's Anatomy is a rip-off of Chicago Hope. As a reference point to what it's all about, then that's a decent descriptor, but we're talking about a field where innovation and originality are ghostly concepts and a high sense of irony needs to be used when using phrases like 'rip-off.' I'm pleased you put "story" in inverted commas, although that sentence itself is redundant. I've yet to encounter a worthwhile porn story, Fashionistas included. I'm surprised you thought the HH scene was cold though - I really liked it. Interested in knowing about any 'hot' scenes of hers you may have encountered. Haven't seen any Girlvert but will take a gander on your recommendation. [Link]

I am English and so I just don't find Hannah Harper hot in the same "exotic" way as you do perhaps. It's the same when people drool over the accents of Angel Long and Roxy Jezel - these accents do nothing for me. Independently of that, both the Dementia films I saw also featured Gia Paloma who is just on fire all the time. Compare her with HH who only gets going towards the end of a scene and there is no contest IMHO. As a fetishist myself I am used to seeing truly bizarre stuff and amazing latex outfits and nothing I have seen in this series lives up to that whereas The Fashionistas delivered. As you have said, the whole "two box special edition" thing was just a marketing rip-off there is no doubt about that and I didn't appreciate being ripped off. I was a bit harsh on the series perhaps. It's well above average but it is not outstanding. To me anyway, everyone's different As for Girlvert may I suggest #4 which has some genuinely hilarious dialogue/plot and lots of nasty, twisted sex especially the Crystal Ray scene. I don't believe you will be disappointed. I haven't seen any of the newer ones. [Link]

Sincity had been a softcore company for years, using old guys with the smallest pricks like Steven st.Croix,Randy''male dodger'' Spears and Herchell Savage in all their titles. I had been passing their weak titles for years until they launched Mayhem and I became a fan. They have thankfully intensified their scenes and have gone hardcore. I look forward to most Mayhem /Sincity titles especially Demintia titles.As long as they don't cast the old hangers on,I will continue to support that series. [Link]
