To answer your question, in my opinion, Caballero did a worse job at mastering the re-releases. The image quality is slightly better than the DaViD versions, and the frame misalignment problem with House of Dreams is fixed, but there are the same video distortions that look suspiciously like VHS dropouts. And there might be an audio problem on Night Trips.
But what takes the cake is the way that Caballero had the discs mastered. Rather than encoding the movie on one title with chapter breaks, they put each scene on a different title. That will trigger a pause on just about every DVD player equivalent to a long layer switch between every single scene. It's painfully distracting to the point that I'll live with the crappy DaViD release just because it doesn't have the pausing between the chapters.
Save your money...it's too bad that Andrew Blake doesn't have the rights to his early movies, because I know he would go back and do the DVDs right.
