Is there anyone out there who thinks that the competition for "Best New Starlet" can have even a shread of validity without the inclusion of Sasha? I would really be curious to know how the girls who WERE nominated feel about this omission. Doesn't it cheapen the value of the nomination when one of the very top contenders to win the award isn't even included? And can anyone tell me how or why this could happen?

Jake - a little hint, never ever worry if something that TonyC says doesn't make sense. It's a really common thing, and I gave up paying attention to him a long time ago.
ANYWAY.... I have a feeling Sasha Knox got omitted because she retired before nominations were announced. It would be pretty ridiculous for someone to win Best New Starlet and have already retired before the award show even occurs.
I'm more shocked that Gianna (Michaels, not Lynn) didn't get nominated for Best Starlet.
But with the final competition almost surely between Sasha Grey, Naomi, and Mia and Ava Rose... I'm not sure Sasha Knox had a chance even if she hadn't retired.
Anyway, to open this up to even further discussion, here's the list for Best New Starlet: Alektra Blue Sasha Grey Lacie Heart Gianna Lynn Candy Manson Riley Mason Michelle Maylene Stefani Morgan Naomi Jenna Presley Kirsten Price Amy Ried Ava Rose Mia Rose Charlotte Stokely
Female Performer of the Year: Belladonna Jasmine Byrne Jada Fire Jenna Haze Roxy Jezel Kimberly Kane Kinzie Kenner Tory Lane Sunny Lane Shy Love Marie Luv Sandra Romain Sativa Rose Hillary Scott Flower Tucci
Most Valuable Unrecognized female: Monique Alexander Nikki Benz Annie Cruz Daisy Alana Evans Jassie Katja Kassin Sophia Charmane Star Delilah Strong Mika Tan Tyla Wynn
Contract star of the year: Joanna Angel, Hustler Video Briana Banks, Vivid Entertainment Group Ashley Blue, JM Productions Mary Carey, Legend Video Courtney Cummz, Zero Tolerance Entertainment Stormy Daniels, Wicked Pictures Jessica Drake, Wicked Pictures Hannah Harper, Sin City Audrey Hollander, Mach 2 Entertainment Jesse Jane, Digital Playground McKenzie Lee, ClubJenna Carmen Luvana, Adam & Eve Pictures Tera Patrick, Teravision/Vivid Entertainment Group Teagan Presley, Digital Playground Savanna Samson, Vivid Entertainment Group
And finally... Foreign Female Performer of the Year: Cristina Bella Mandy Bright Angel Dark Jane Darling Mya Diamond Tiffany Hopkins Isabel Ice Claudia Jamesson Katsumi Cindy Lords Monica Mattos Poppy Morgan Claudia Rossi Priscila Sol Liliane Tiger
Here are my choices for who I think SHOULD get each award, and who I think WILL get each award.
Starlet: Should- Mia Rose or Ava Rose. Will- Sasha Grey Female Performer: Belladonna or Jenna Haze. Will- Hillary Scott Contract: Courtney Cummz or Audrey Hollander. Will- Stormy Unrecognized: Jassie, Charmane or Delilah. Will- Monique or Delilah Foreign: Katsumi. Will- Katsumi.

I'd have to agree with Jake....Sasha Knox put out some of the best scenes made in porn this year. If you compare the amount of great jaw dropping scenes from all the performers nominated+Sasha Knox, Sasha wins hands down. I too believe her retiring was probably the reason why she didn't get nominated. To me, and I know a whole lot of porn watchers would've picked her to win the best new starlet...considering she put out a lot more great scenes then anyone else in that list.

I would have thought Sasha Knox would have been on that list too but the girls on it are pretty hot. I must say I'd be pleasantly surprised if Mia took it as she started out slowly perhaps but her anal work particularly with Manuel Ferrara was among the most passionate/ romantic and fucking hot as fuck sex between two people shot this year and I'd be cheering if she won just for those scenes alone. As for performer of the year I really think it's wide open between Hillary, Tory, and Jenna Haze. Naturally I'm pulling for Miss Scott, duh!
This is TonyC's standard answer to anyone who posts something that betrays a strong feeling about anything. It refers to the whole "emo" movement - look it up on Wikipedia (here it is). It's become a kind of put down in internet chat parlance.
I had him accuse me of being emo in another thread recently. I actually think he's emo for calling me emo, but that's another discussion!
Oh, and I agree that Sasha should have been nominated - maybe the fact she left the biz had something to do with her exclusion from the process?

oops - just realized someone else explained the "emo" comment. Oh well.

The term "emo" has also been used in recent years on the Internet as a form of insult, especially toward those who appear emotionally unstable, or those who talk about issues in their personal lives to people in public forums or chat rooms. Similar to popular profanity, it tends to be used as a general insult even when it is not directly applicable. Phrases such as "cheer up, emo kid" are used frequently as a quick brush-off in this context. Some people use the term "emo" to describe a feeling of depression, alluding to the association of depression with the "emo" subculture. The alleged link between "emo" culture and certain behaviors has spawned a myriad of crude jokes among non-"emo" circles. An example of such a joke would be "I wish my grass was "emo" so it would cut itself", referencing the common belief that emos are depressed, and thus inclined towards self harm, as many who are described as "Emo" have a tendency to cut or hurt themsleves in a similar way. As a result, individual definitions of emo vary greatly, and consensus on a single definition is difficult if not impossible. The current, most widely-believed definition is that someone that is emo tends to cut or hurt themselves, and is either often, terminally, or easily depressed. Many talk about this in public, as mentioned above, and tend to wear black clothes very often, such as a Goth would. This has lead to some confusion between sources if "Emo" should be classified under goth, as a sort of subculture of a subculture.

Damn I just noticed there's a category for best foreign pornstar, and there's no Monica Sweetheart? WOW...ok now I really wanna know who were the retards who picked these nominees. I haven't seen AVN pick such bad nominees in the longest time! Monica Sweetheart hands down has put out THE BEST scenes throughout the year compare to ALL the girls mentioned in that category. Sasha Knox, according to me atleast also put out better scenes then MOST if not all the names mentioned in the new starlet category.....horrible picks, bad job AVN.
I think Tricia probably nailed it. Hopefully she has better luck with the XRCO's in a couple months where I'd say she could have a good chance at the Superslut nomination...

i love mia rose to death...but i would assume sasha grey runs away with this category.....
she is 18, she has no tattoos, she does anal, she deepthroats, she is all natural, she is booked 3 months in advance.....she made rocco cum within 5 minutes of fucking him, in her first scene ever no less....and for Evil Angel...tricia....you really dont think Sasha Grey is the winner? really?
The way i look at it is that the award is for "Best New Starlet" not "Best New and Current Starlet". We all have to admit that Sasha Knox is "new" and she is also a "starlet". Given her jaw dropping performances throughout the year, she should definitely be considered among the "Best" along with our other lovely nominees Sasha Grey, Ava & Mia Rose included.
I do not believe that it states anywhere that the performer still need to be in the industry. Silly analogy- Wayne Gretzky was nominated for awards in his final season... after he retired.
We all know of the curious voting practices of the AVN awards committee (i assume there is one) so the exclusion of Ms. Knox from the list of nominees is not a big shocker. We can all have our own personal Best New Starlet... My choice is Sasha ;)
I would love to see Monica Sweetheart nominated too but I find nothing so out of wack with the ones they have for this years award. Poppy, Liliane, Jane, Katsumi I'd be real happy with any of them winning.
The real crime I see with the nominees here is the omission of Georgia Peach in the Best New Starlet category, I would have thought her inclusion would be a no brainer.

What about Tiffany Rayne, wasn't she considered a new starlet this year or was she considered for last year? Tiffany Rayne like Sasha Knox, also put out some of the best scenes made this year consistently until she called it quits. I just wish somebudy from AVN could come here and explain to us that how can an extremely popular girl who was A WAY BETTER PERFORMER then most of the girls nominated, wasn't selected. It is indeed mind boggling.

I did indeed overlook that Amy Reid has also retired. Well, there goes my theory.
For me, maybe not for the noms, but at least for the final winner, I would most definitely put longevity in as one of the factors as who'd I'd vote for as the winner. There's awards for best single scenes that could easily acknowledge the girls that had amazing scenes in a movie or in multiple movies. But to me, Best New Startlet is the girl who was the best over the course of a year, and if she didn't make it to the end of the year, well... then chances are she might get passed up by someone who did make it through the whole year. I am surprised that she doesn't have a SINGLE nomination including in the sex scene categories.
Christian- I adore Sasha Grey, and I probably should have put that Sasha, Mia or Ava are all girls that I would vote for given the day. Considering that both Mia and Sasha are signing at the Evil Angel booth, I like them equally, and for different reasons. :) I truly believe that one of them will be the winner. But what do I know... Jenna Haze, Missy and Jenna Jameson are the only 3 Best New Startlets I've guessed in the past 10 years.
If Tiffany had stayed in the biz I have no doubt she would have been on that list but she got out way early in the year so I can't really support a nom for her.
My understanding was she does do b/g work but only with her husband. But maybe I'm out of date.
I said on another thread that I thought Alektra and Naomi, having been around a little longer to establish themselves in people's consciousness, had the better chance of winning - and that, ironically, Sasha Grey and Mia Rose might be too genuinely new to win Best New Starlet. I still think that. But I myself would rather see one of the latter two win, with Ms Rose marginally edging it over Ms Grey as my own preference.
Thank you Karen, Bobo, John... And everyone else... I have been in OFFICIALLY for one full year the week of AVN.... My fingers, toes, eyes, legs and everything is crossed....
And Karen, it means more than you know hearing that come from you. Thank you so much. See you tomorrow at the KSEX awards! w00t
Can you even name some foreign-produced Monica titles from this year that deserved acclaim? Capitalisation isn't enough in proving your point. The only thing you've done is insulted several adt posters in claiming they're bad nominees.

I never said those girls nominated did bad scenes, I said Monica Sweetheart put out better scenes then them in MY opinion.
Well you might consider how you choose your words next time then. Calling people retards isn't very tactful and then to call the girls bad nominees would lead a lot of people to think you consider their scenes to be of less quality. There's nothing wrong with championing Monica, hell I'd get in that line anyday but to think girls like Katsumi, Liliane Tiger, Jane Darling, Angel Dark as somehow vastly inferior is a position I couldn't agree with.
alicia alighatti quit porn in february this year so how she is nominated for best new starlet is beyond me plus my votes on naomi who more than deserves this award...
