Sasha Grey's oral skills (as in, you know, words coming out of her mouth) are quite impressive. Not sure if her narrative intros in "Fuck Slaves" and (especially) "Sex Slaves 2" were improvised or not, but when Jake showed up and the narration ended, I was PISSED! Stop the fucking (or at least postpone it) and let the girl keep talking! "I need to be trained. I need to be broken. I want you to hurt me." Despite what the idiots over at xxxporntalk.com have to say, I think Sasha is EXACTLY what this industry needs, at EXACTLY the right time. In a culture (ours, natch) where the average random person on the street believes that the only way a girl can go from awareness of "deviant" sex to curiosity about it is if she hates herself and has emotional issues (someone over at xxxporntalk.com referred to her as "deeply disturbed" because she likes what she likes), and to go from curiosity to awareness to trying it to actually liking it is indicative of not only profound self-loathing, but abuse, someone like Sasha (a smart, articulate porn performer who makes no apologizes and provides no gestures in the direction of the mainstream to reassure them that, deep down, she's just like them. Which is something the mainstream craves.

It seems to me that a large percentage of people in our culture (enough that I should just say "our culture") are desperate to believe that, deep down, everyone is just like them, and if someone stands up and says, "Uh, no, not really," they start making up "horror stories" to explain how they got knocked off the path. Especially women. I mean, if a man says, "I just had a threeway with two women and LOVED it," no one bats an eye. But if a woman says, "I just had a three way with two men and LOVED it," the ones who don't dismiss her as a slut dismiss her as damaged and start talking about her self-esteem. What's the old saying? "If they can't have me wrong, they'll have me a victim"?

I blame a lot of things for this, but I really blame religion. Because once you think you have the ANSWER, the explanation for who we all are and why we're all here, and once you believe that your particular Source Book is the Truth, a totalitarion mindset is just around the corner and it becomes more than easy to find value in legislating against people because, hey, you KNOW why those people are here, and you KNOW their purpose, and, if those people and their values appear to contradict your own, then its time to "save" those people from themselves. And the first step in saving people is to get everyone on the same page about who those people are. Oppressive totalitarians have done this since the beginning of time, demonizing people, passing laws against them based on the distorted perception that they themselves created, and the anti-sex, anti-porn crowd (tres oppressive, tres totalitarian) has been doing this for some time. In the words of Shirley Manson: "Sex is Not the Enemy."

Heh. I started out talking about Sasha Grey (love you, girl) and ended up on a tangential rant. Oh, well. It's all related.

Oh, and to answer a question Sasha asked in some forum somewhere: Yes, Sasha, the fact that you are a smart existentialist DOES make your scenes better.
