I just got a copy of a "Damiano trilogy" dvd recently released by the french company Alpha France - Blue One. It includes -both in original language and french dubbing - "Deep Throat 1" / "Satisfiers Of Alpha Blue" and a mid-80's movie called "Devil In Mister Jones" (I think the original title is "Flesh And Fantasy") starring Ron Jeremy.
The "..Alpha Blue" movie includes fisting scenes (unlike, I guess, the US Arrow dvd), still the running time is only 60 minutes : something must have been cut, but what ? Was there anything more risqué than the fisting in the movie ?

The fisting and the watersports scenes have been cut from the Arrow DVD release for The Satisfiers of Alpha Blue. The run time for the Arrow disc is an hour and twenty six minutes, so the Alpha France version is missing quite a bit especially if it includes the fisting that is absent from the Arrow release. Out of curiousity, does the disc contain the slightly edited one hour cut of Deep Throat or the complete one hour and two minute cut of Deep Throat?

Sorry Flash, I borrowed the disc from a friend and only cared for the other two films, I skipped "Deep Throat"... By the way, I can't wait to receive my copy of the Alpha Blue Linda Lovelace collection (including DT 2).
Back to the Alpha France company, since each films run approx. 1 hour, it's now clear to me that it's only a matter of disk space, not censorship that led to edit "Satisfiers..." (and probably "Flesh & Fantasy")

By DT2, do you mean the original 1974 sequel to Deep Throat? If so where might this disc be obtained? I know it's only an R, but I'd still love to see it.

Yes, the "real" DT2 made by Joe Sarno, not the 80's sequel. LasersEdge is where I ordered it : the whole film is included in the Linda Lovelace dvd.

My pleasure. As you probably know now, the other complete movie on the disc is "Linda Lovelace For President". And the dvd also contains some loops.
3 1/2 hours of Linda Lovelace material : it might as well be a "complete" collection (minus DT1)...

My copy of "The Linda Lovelace Collection" was shipped last week from Laser's Edge. Hope it arrives next week! I have Deep Throat and would like to get other stuff Linda did.

With the exception of Deep Throat - Part 2, the disc is rather disappointing. There are four loops on it, one is censored, all are poor quality. There is her other mainstream film Linda Lovelace for President, which has audio problems throughout and a photo gallery. Luckily I bought it for DT - Part 2 so I didn't feel ripped off.

the censoring of a classic like 'Alpha Blue'. I can't believe it. The madness continues with screwing up the classics! I'll hold on to my tape of this.

The video quality is very good, it appears to be a composite print all from 35mm sources. There are some artifacts, worse in some places than others, and a glitch or two. It definitely appears to have been remastered from the original film masters though.
If you are familiar with Arrow's releases this shouldn't surprise you at all. All of their releases that I can think of have had fisting, rape, water sports, etc removed from them. They did include the edited fisting scenes from Candy Stripers as a well hidden easter egg but that's the only disc that I am aware of where they hid the excised material on the disc. It's not that they don't care about their releases, several like Satisfiers of Alpha Blue, Deep Throat and Candy Stripers have obviously been remastered from the original film negatives. Others that are not in as good a shape like Alice in Wonderland one has to wonder if that was the best master available given their care of other releases. My guess is that Ray Pistol doesn't want to risk prosecution and that is why the material that is missing has been cut. I'd love to have the classics uncut, but I don't want more people to go to jail for that to happen.

[/quote]First of all, thanx Flash for your info & input into the censoring of scenes from the classics. Very informative. I could talk about this all day as it is a pet peeve of mine. After all, I thought that was the whole point of DVD, being able to have the longest & most complete copy of your favorite movie. There has to be a reason more than just legal as to why this continues with films that were at one time released theatrically. If it is all litigation, then the laws don't seem to be consistent. For instance why would a ?squirting/pissing scene from VXP's "Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle" be deleted(??obscenity)for DVD while a video such as "Piss Mops" can be produced today with no problems? Until "Piss Mops" I always thought that squirting or peeing on somebody was forbidden as it pertains to 2257. But showing somebody in the act of squirting or peeing was ok so long as it wasn't on somebody. The scene in the Annie Sprinkle movie certainly had her drenching a guy. And another thing, could it be that some people are just plain ignorant and lazy when striking a classic for DVD? They go and grab the nearest print without checking if the print is missing a scene for whatever the reason(compilations, best ofs etc)and don't labor to restore the movie to it's full running length. It's just unbelievable that negatives & prints from X movies made just 25 to 30 years ago no longer exist. The industry should treasure there past a little more and not for just the quick buck. It's as if we're talking about long forgotten silent movies.

I'd believe some of the negatives no longer exist. When Arrow remastered Deep Throat they used a grindhouse print as the original masters are believed to be non-existant anymore. I'm sure there are some that only VHS masters exist for at this point.
Companies like VCA, VCX, VXP etc have been around longer than I have. They've seen procecutions happen for the material in their titles. Some of the people at the top of these companies have spent time for the content of their titles. I'd be hesitant too if I had spent time in jail. Companies like JM and Extreme never saw those days so I'm sure they are far more willing to push what they can put in their films, until one of them ends up in jail.
VCX has recently started releasing their films mostly uncut. VXP cuts all their titles if I'm not mistaken, Arrow cuts all theirs, VCA cuts all theirs (one they have admitted they cut too much but unfortunately they aren't being so quick about fixing it), I-Candy is cut, TVX appears to cut most of theirs (some stupididly with nothing to do with content), Mitchell Bros are so far uncut (with the obvious exception of a Traci Lords scene). Caballero and NuTech also both seem to offer cut versions and Alpha Blue Archives tries to offer uncut versions (although The Story of Joanna from them is cut). Hope this helps a bit.

I'd think by now these films are old enough to be a piece of Americana. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to get an acquittal based on historical significance if it were argued that cinema is a valid art form that underwent an unrestrained period of transformation in the 70's, in all genres. There are plenty of mainstream examples that could be cited as part of the explosion of sex and violence and general cinematic freedom of the time.
Then again, I'd hate to be the guy to find out the hard way if it didn't work. Little of what happens in courts makes any sense.

I had a feeling that Alpha Blue was cut...

I had rented this twice in the 80s and loved it!
I recently rented the Arrow version and had no clue it was cut...the last thing on my mind would be that American made porn from the 70s would be cut...especially when the VHS tape WASNT!

Because it was so long since I had seen SOAB, I couldnt recall what was missing, but it just didnt seem like I was watching the full movie.

Is my memory faulty or did Sharon Mitchell have a sex scene in this movie? In the Arrow version there isnt.

Also..there's a scene where this group of girls orders up some beefcake to fuck and suck, and this one blonde is blowing this massive cock that cums IN her mouth while she is STILL SUCKING IT! I challenge all porn makers to view that scene and see how a blow job should be filmed...as opposed to this stuff where a girl hangs her tongue out of her mouth and waits while some guy beats off into it...then she shows the camera her mouth full....what a terrible way of ending a blow job in my opinion.

Oh you better believe negatives and prints no longer exist! Considering the films were financed with cash, so no names could be traced, producers worked under pseudonyms and kept no paper trails of ownership, whereabouts of prints/negatives, etc., the incredible cost of keeping negatives in secure vaults for years on end, and the onslaught of video making it much more affordable to toss out negs/prints and keep the films on 1" masters, it's a wonder any films from this period are still around in celluloid form! So while "silent movies" are deteriorating and hard to keep alive because of rare workable prints and the technology of that time, the reasons for XXX prints disappearing are much more complex and depressing.

It's a real tragedy, considering some of the best films in the genre can no longer be presented in original uncut versions from pristine elements, but that's the nature of the business. I mean, it is pornography and not "high art", but the Golden Age produced some of the best mixings of Hollywood-level production values and performances with hardcore sex. It was the closest the business ever got to respectability, so one would think that those with the money and power to keep these films alive would do it.
