Yorkshire is in the north of England, Cockney's are from a certain part of the east end of London (which is in the south). I would say less than 1% of Londoners are actually Cockneys, yet so often anyone from England is referred to as a Cockney by Americans. It would be like calling all Americans Red Necks, or thinking all Amercians speak with New Jersey accents. [Link] |
