I've seen comments like this quite often when sex work and prostitution are being discussed. What I haven't seen is anyone provide a politically correct alternative to the word prostitute which describes people who provide sex for money.
Sex worker doesn't do the job because it's such a generic term. It includes everyone in the sex industry, including chat line operators and strippers who aren't even having sex on the job.
Other alternatives, like whore or hooker, are more obviously derogatory and more likely to cause offence than the word prostitute. Escort or call girl don't have the same negative connotations, but don't include people who work on the street or in brothels.
Where I live prostitution isn't illegal (although a well funded feminist campaign for criminalisation could well change that) and I wouldn't say working as a prostitute is much more stigmatised than doing porn. Looking at the ongoing debate, most of the sex workers defending the legality of their job do use the term prostitute and don't appear to see it as inherently offensive. It's the feminist term "prostituted women" that they tend to view as demeaning.

I wasn't being rude. I was just curious. I was being serious. I think this fetish might really exist.

Some strippers go out on sex-dates with customers who like them. The kind of work sex-workers do depends a lot on the country and the place where they work.
I've actually been with a stripper like that. I had no previous experience with such women, and I was curious to know how she felt about doing this kind of work. I asked her how she felt about being involved in prostitution. And I could see from her non-verbal reaction that I've embarrassed her, and she didn't quite know what to say. Apparently, she didn't think of herself as a prostitute.
She didn't give me a straight answer. But from my experience with her I've learned never to use the word 'prostitute or prostitution' with sex workers again.

I haven't heard much protest about the use of the word before, although there is a wide range of opinions and feelings, and I've worked with representatives of sex worker rights organizations in the past as I use to work in the non-profit sector. Whore and/or hooker are much more problematic I think, prostitute may have negative connotations to some but I in general I think it's mostly a technical term.
So I don't think it is found offensive across the board, do you have any reason to think so?

^ I agree it's a technical term, but I think it can also be USED in a derogatory way. It's one of those words that evokes reactions because it's often used to degrade someone.

Cool, thanks Rod. I think we can move back to the OP now. If there's anything further of interest to say, of course.

Saying you're going on a Sex Date with is a stripper is just someone trying to white wash themselves as being better than a "John" going out with "Prostitute" or vice versa. Just as an celebrity wanting to make some quick cash doing porn, but not wanting to harm their reputation they release a "stolen sex tape shot for private use only!"

With the news that just came out that Miss Teen Delaware has been discovered to be one of the girls on GirlsDoPorn, that further undermines the speculation that all these girls are just hookers that you can find on an escort site somewhere. Anytime this guy is actually able to get a real-life 18 year-old Miss Teen USA beauty pageant contestant on his site, that has really raised his site's credibility about finding hot regular everyday girls who are not pro whores.
I don't know what magic trick this guy is using to get these girls on his site. But I really need to track him down and get him to tell me what it is.

I know I'd pay good money just to have such an SYT spend an hour of quality time with me. And I wouldn't make a commercially available video of our activities available for all the world to see ... or even brag about it on the Internet. Al too often, the best I can get is a tatted-up girlfriend of some rock-band drummer, or an out-of-shape single mom who can't find another way to support her family.

From my experience they come form every place imaginable. I used to run with a group of guys who were very into escorts. We met women who were total pros, porn stars, college girls, secretaries, even the occasional cop or flight attendant.
Stated reasons ran from drugs to financial problems, to simply enjoying it.
A couple of guys I know who had pretty well known careers in very public fields got a bit spooked about going for straight up escorts. The illegality of it bothered them most. They bought a video cam, had an attorney we know draw up a model release and they put some ads in the paper for nude modeling ect.
For every decent looking or even hot college girl that answered there were 10 women you wouldn't touch if you were drunk. It was amazing how many didn't even blink at the prospect that nude modeling was really going to be porn. Some would hesitate, and a few walked, but most were ready to rock and roll with little encouragement. the ONLY issue was money. Some worked for as little as $200/hr others wanted $500/hr but most would settle for $300/hour.
It was amazing how many of these young ladies were really into showing off in front of the camera. Not shy at all. Like they had something to prove. One lady even asked for a copy to send to her boyfriend who'd broken up with her.
One observation I will make. Some here seem to like to through around terms like Prostitute ect. Many assume there is something wrong with these ladies. In all my years of seeing escorts, I found almost all of thee ladies to be sweet, normal human beings who were simply less inhibited and more in touch with their own sexuality. Many of you would be amazed at the number of women who do this kind of work to fulfill their own fantasies or personal needs.
Here in America we stigmatize sex so much its absurd. As a man, if I could make money having sex I sure as hell would. You never hear anyone around her calling the male performers prostitutes, sluts, or whores. Some among us need to readjust their thinking.

Going back to the OP, part of it is numbers.
There are around 10 million college age women in the United States.
I used IAFD to search for how many girls shot their first porn movies in 2012. There were 120 pages. Since IAFD doesn't allow you to search only for women, I couldn't the number of girls on five random pages, and got 60, for an average of 12 per page. This means about 1440 girls shot their first porn movies in 2012. Assuming that ALL of the women who shot porn for the first time in 2012 were college aged, then about 1 in 7000 college age women shot porn for the first time.
Let's take Penn State as a typical large state University. It has around 35,000 students, about half of whom are women. So there are about 17,500 women at Penn State.
Assuming that all of the first time porn girls are college aged (which isn't true), and that girls in college are as likely to shoot porn as other members of their age cohort who aren't in college (which is probably NOT true), then only two or three girls on the campus of Penn State will shoot their first porn in a single year.
My guess is that among real college girls, it's less than two or three. Girls who can attend college full time have some source of money that allows them to pay for college-- whether its student loans, parents, or whatever-- and shooting a porn movie would put this money at risk. Girls who attend college full time are thinking about future careers outside of the sex industry. Both of these would seem to make college girls LESS likely to shoot porn than their age cohort.
But even if you accept that one in 1440 college girls shot her first porn last year, even if you attend college, you probably haven't met one of them. Even if you are taking five big lecture courses, each of which has 500 students (250 women), chances are that less than 50/50 that one of these porn chicks is sitting in one of your lectures with you.

I doubt that. I didn't major in women studies,English,Psychology or Sociology..even then I don't think the odds are that high that many women do porn..it implies all women are that easy and no self-respect.
