shhh ;) it's not done yet, but we wanted to at least get it posted. yes, eventually we will create a forum there and many of the other features currently on adt. we're still filling out the database so we have a solid foundation to do more with it.
Oopsie. Well, it's looking mighty fine, even in its unfinished state. I like the bestseller list, which I don't remember seeing before. And I'm looking forward to the forums. I have no suggestions other than adding a search function (for toy names, toy categories, material types, manufacturers, prices, and reviewers). It sounds like that's already in the works, however.

I was just kidding with the shhh. Yes, we should be able to add a search function for toy names, manuf, categories, and reviewers. Prices will hopefully come later (much bigger project.) I also want to work on getting some toys for review.
Categorizing is such a nightmare! A dildo fits so many places...
I can only imagine. You'd have to go back through each and every old review and figure out the materials from which those dildos are made. I do like the way Blowfish categorizes their inventory:

I'm not sure we have enough reviews yet to make that worth the trouble initially, but maybe we can add subsections like that in the future. I'd be willing to help with that project; just send me an e-mail if you like.

Thanks, Yoga. Actually the biggest categorization problem I ran across was a guy reviewing a dildo he used in his ass. Originally I thought the for men, for women, anal play, for couples would be a good way to browse, especially for people unfamiliar with toys. Then I had the dildo in the ass problem. Two people could review the same toy and use it in different ways, but I have to categorize the same toy the same way. Just a small snag that made me want to rethink everything well after it had been done.
That's the problem with building websites. They always need renovation.
That's a toughie, for sure. You could simply put it in the anal category (even though it's a dildo, not a butt plug), but that'd only work if no one else reviews it later as a vaginal toy. I see the difficulty.
I think there should be a section just titled 'Dildos', which could include reviews of them used vaginally and anally, then separated by men and women users. The anal play section would include the butt plugs, anal beads, inflatables and those toys which looks like clubs... :)
the current categorization is set up in a primary-secondary system. it's not obvious though. Each toy gets assigned a single primary category and can have one or more secondary categories. I think need to redesign the system to be more of a parent-child relationship. Examples:
Current system for Ron Jeremy Cyberskin dildo: primary category: dildo secondary: cyberskin, pornstar
forgot to mention that the system is complicated because we aren't differentiating between the categorization of the review and the categorization of the product. generally they are the same so we felt that it's best to categorize based on the product and not the review content. i.e. a dildo is a dildo vs. dildos reviews by men/women.

Masamune - yes - I do the front end (html, graphics) - Drew does the backend (database, dynamic pages, etc.) Thanks for the compliments on the logo. I had fun making it and normally I hate doing logos. We have developed a handful of sites/stores outside pornland.
jayo - I was just trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who is not familiar with toys. When I show up at a website I want to know immediately where I should go. I'm sure the category system can be better - we will keep working on it.
btw - there's a bug in the submit review form - the overall rating is getting lost. That's why the last couple reviews have zero rating. I'm holding off on posting the most recent reviews until I hear back from the reviewer on what the rating should be.
I was keeping my mouth shut because I figure the last thing you need is more "help." But in the end I thought I'd ask just to satisfy my own curiosity.
FWiW: you might consider having the same toy review show up in more than one category. That might solve some problems. Certain vibes, like the dildo-shaped, might show up in both a men's and women's category (men's toys: vibrators: dildo-shaped and women's toys: vibrators: dildo shaped; women's toys: dildos: vibrating), whereas the "rabbit" type vibes might only show up in the women's section. The "wand" type might only show up in women's sections, unless you're talking about a specifically male attachment.
A thought.
I'll be happy to submit reviews for the few things I've used. I like how this site has multiple reviews of the same thing, since toys are so subjective. Almost every piece of garbage is someone's favorite, and vice-versa. Reading multiple reviews often helps give me a more complete picture of what the item is.

jayo - i think i do have the same toy in multiple categories, but i'm not sure. i started adding cats a year ago. i'm literally confusing myself in the whole process :)
yes, please do submit reviews of any toys you've used. that would be great! definitely, the more opinions the better. at the moment please either email me the overall rating or include it in the review itself (since that part of the form isn't working and i can't get it fixed for a couple weeks.)
i don't know how many of you remember the early renditions of adult dvd talk. needless to say it changed/grew a lot over time. we aim to do the same with sex toy talk. i have a lot to learn about the toy world.
