As for prostitution, you really have to put the whole thing in perspective. Women prostitute because men will pay. The reasons they do, and their feelings about it are as varied as the men who buy them. There are the streetwalkers, many of whom are drug addicts. I know one woman whose cocaine addiction was so bad she left her husband and kids. Living out of her car and down on her luck, she prostituted an off duty cop in desperation. Even though he paid her for her favors, he had the decency to talk to her about her situation. His compassion for her was a catalyst to help her turn her life around. A former neighbor in the same city tried to trade herself to me for money to buy drugs. Her angry little boy came out of the bedroom with balled up fists and told me through his rotting teeth that I better not hurt his mom. Of course it's right to feel sorry for people like this.

On the other end of the spectrum is the career woman who works in a legal brothel to earn a living. There are bouncers at the door and proper etiquette must be observed. She has regular tests for STDs and condom use is mandatory. Some of these women are indifferent and are only there for the money. Some enjoy what they do and really like to please men. For them it's a personal choice. There is no need to make moral judgments or feel bad for them.

I wrote the previous post in response to the cheering and jeering squads to demonstrate some of the extremes of the trade. If the escort you are thinking of is the glamorous porn star type, some of them are. If the streetwalker you are thinking of has been victimized and has no other options, some of them are. If the working girl you are thinking of is just having fun while she earns her way through life, some of them are.

How many of you have bought your sex on a regular basis and gotten to know some of the women well? Or had one for a neighbor? Or taken care of their kids while they work?
