Many local jurisdictions (the so-called porn no-ship zones) consider you to be the criminal pornographer if you send materials they deem pornographic into their jurisdiction. And it doesn't matter where you are. If you happen to catch their attention, they come after you.
It's sad; and stupid; but, the no-ship zones exist for a reason.
Alex, they'll prosecute anyone they can get their hands on -- especially if they think it will get them a headline or a vote among the slime-ball fundies who prop them up.
Under most conditions, purveyors from other countries are probably out of reach; however, companies -- and even individuals -- in the USA are quite easily ensnared. Better safe than sorry.
I realize that adultdvdempire may have the most comprehensive no-ship list. Does anyone know where I can view these state / local laws? Example: Indianapolis is on the no-ship list. Where can I see that law?
There isn't a single place where you can view all local laws. Besides, the "law" isn't really legislation. It's the result of a court decision that defined the term community standards . If the community might have a problem with the material, as most dry counties and bible belt areas would, then it's just best not to ship to them.

after what willywilly said, I think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think there might be some law enforcement people on this board who live in no-ship to areas just to trap & make $$ off of honest, no harm intended sellers/traders here...
Ship via UPS and you should be OK. Sure, it costs more but it's not used by Postal Inspectors for entrapment purposes. FedEx is not safe though. They turn over shit to law enforcement all the time.
Do a few Google searches on FedEx and law enforcement. FedEx has better package scanners than the USPS does. They routinely initiate law enforcement inquiries and work closely with the FBI.
Those "non ship" zones basically have to do with the likelyhood of an adult-related proscecution coming up in that area if a website or store ships product there. That's why you'll have trouble finding an adult retailer who will ship to the most conservative states like Utah, or cities where a lot of prosecutions have taken place, like Cincinatti, Ohio (ask Larry Flynt!).
Living in one of these zones is quite bizarre, as sometimes shippers won't send what I can rent at either of two stores down the road! I understand when shippers are anxious, but the whole thing really is ridiculous as the stuff is available locally.....at a much more premium price however:(
A little different here... They won't ship to my county, which is basically "dry" of any adult entertainment, but I can go over the county line and get JM, Extreme Associates, or anything else.
I can't believe that the (rural) counties surrounding Cincinnati are less likely to prosecute for obscenity than the metropolitan Hamilton County. Perhaps the spectre of the Larry Flynt trials still scare retailers away.

It's just a matter of how willing sellers are to take chances. This does not coincide with geographical boundaries.Because of deferences in the infrastructure of regulations and legal systems between small cities and big cities.
What I meant was that just because some geographic region is listed as a no-ship zone by some internet retailer, this doesn't mean that there is no local smut shop in that region that is willing to take chances.
i live in TX, just south of Houston. Empire will ship to me, I'm not in Houston or one of the zip codes listed as non ship to, but I can no longer buy on adultdvdmarketplace, they have a shipping ban on the whole state of TX, which really sucks. I also don't get it, that Houston would be more likely to prosecute then one of the smaller surrounding cities/towns. doesn't make sense to me, just leave us alone and let us watch buy and rent our porn. There's planty of bricjk and morter stores in houston, so it's really strange
I understand that, but what i don't get it it's only certain places they won't ship to in the state. I understand places not wanting to ship to the entire state, but I can get places shipped to my house, yet my friend 5 mins away in Houston can't get things from the place I can. Just strange to me. I just wish the government would keep out of this business, and let me watch whatever I want to
