I am inetrested in knowing why various retailers having different costs for international deliveries. some are reasonable whilst others are highly priced. given that there are many shoppers outside the U.S I would have assumed that retailers would have tried to appeal more to international shoppers. I am interested in knowing from retailers as too how they do their pricing.

I agree shipping is an issue, especially when ordering DVDs one at a time like I do.

When ordering from the US, I use Lasersedge with their $1.99 shipping they are generally the cheapest around, although sometimes on specials 5 Star are more competitive. For Europe, erodvd.nl has free shipping and are definitely the cheapest for Euro titles and sometimes even for US ones. Orgazmik are also good, shipping is expensive but after you first order you regularly monthly coupons which about cover shipping costs for one title. I'd only buy German stuff (Videorama/Dvdrama, Magma) at Orgazmik though, the rest of their catalogue is too expensive IMVHO.

How retailers tailor their shipping policies is up to them. The flat rate of Lasersedge and the free shipping at erodvd.nl sure are drawing lots of extra customers but this must come at a cost to the vendors. I guess they consider this shipping stategy is part of their "advertising".

I have been recently converted to Lasersedge and WOW! am I impressed!

The shipping costs are dirt cheap compared to what I used to pay for! I wish I'd used them earlier cos they woudl have saved me loads!

It all depends.

Some charge a fortune.
Some companies charge the shipping costs PLUS some extra for "handling".
Some charge approximately the costs and end up losing a little money if you stop to add up all the stamps. Not counting backorders.
Some take a -large- loss on the shipping costs, shipping internationally incredibly cheaply.

I know of at least 2 retailers that offer an option to have dvds shipped without cases giving the customer an option to save a bit on shipping.

Hope this explains the diversity a little.

Also lasersedge's shipping rates are the cheapest all over the world, their shipping method (air mail shipping) does not work.
The cheapest shipping method is senseless if your DVDs are stolen on postway or confiscated at customs. Please overthink, what is better: a good and relativelay cheap method with over 90% success rate or an unsecure and cheap method where 30 and more % of the DVD are stolen or confiscated?

I don't think there's any mystery about why the companies in the price search who charge the least for discs tend to have the highest shipping costs. There has to be sufficient a profit margin in selling the discs for the low-price shippers to afford their rates - they're not charities after all. I honestly (IMHO) believe the reason some of the higher-priced shippers charge these flat rates or insist on DHL or UPS is to deliberately put off international shoppers - they're happy with the domestic market (which is big enough) and they don't have to deal with the regular whingings of customers whose porn has been appropriated by the local postman for his collection.

It all depends on your experiences. I've ordered from Laser's Edge quite a few time, to Australia and have had no problems with any of my orders from them yet.

I've done all my ordering from FiveStar with their Fedex priority rate (up to 8 DVDs) to Australia. I order 8 at a time and find that this is the quickest way of getting them. The average shipping time is about 7 days if not held up through customs. It costs the same as about one DVD (anything over 8 DVDs starts to get very expensive) but when I want my porn, I want it now damn it.

I like the security in being able to track the parcel right from when it leaves FiveStar to when it arrives at my home. Fedex delivery is also guaranteed.

Without doubt dvdadvantage have the FASTEST delvery from the USA to UK. I made an order on Friday and it was delivered the following Monday. You couldn't even guarantee that within the UK!!!
It is costly, though at $30, but it's worth it. Shame they invariably do not stock the dvds I like or else I'd be going back to them time and time again.
