Snowden - It's not a question of legality (although Anabolic titles fly a little close to the wind). It's a question of customs duty. You want to buy five titles - you don't say what price, but let's go for a mid-range $20 each. That's $100, plus $25 DHLing.$125 - that's roughly £80, so they'll jump on it at Customs. £80 plus customs duty at 3.5%, or £2.80 = £82.80
plus VAT at 17.5% which is £14.44 on top of that gives you a grand total of £97.29. Then there'll probably be a Customs Admin charge on top of that from DHL (anyone?)
Shi Warrior - Adult videos are only classified as being R18 in the UK . The kind of porn movies one can buy online are NOT classified by the BBFC, but can be legally imported into the UK as long as they conform to the BBFC guidelines which means no pissing, shitting, fisting, animals, children or bondage among other no-nos. Unfortunately a great many titles fall foul of this rule and if they are intercepted will be confiscated and the buyer given a warning. If you try importing anything too nasty, you can find yourself facing criminal charges.
Customs and Excise operate by having a sample of mail that interests them (big, bulky, expensive) taken out of the enormous bulk of mail entering the country every day. Royal Mail (as only they are legally allowed to) open the mail, check the contents and bill the recipient for import duty and VAT. If they find indecent materials (contravening the BBFC rules in the eyes of the mail inspector , the package will be confiscated and further action taken if required.
There is a loophole in the regulations - packages under a declared value of £18 will not be charged VAT or import duty, and are least likely to be opened by HMC&E
Basic rules:
* Don't buy anything too extreme
* If you can get stuff shipped separately, do so.
* If you can get stuff shipped as just the cover art and discs that is even more anonymous than in the box (as EroDVD do)
* Don't be surprised at a hefty Customs bill if you ship in bulk.
Any questions ;o) ?
