Both Gary and GGG are absolutely correct that a good movie might have an awful title. That's the case with soooo many XXX films from the 70s. Not only are the titles dull, but they often make good movies seem like generic crap. Cases in point: Nothing to Hide and V - the Hot One, both of which are terrific films with dreadful titles. But the point of the shitty titles then was more of a bait and switch tactic, rather than laziness; make the audience think they're going to see a throwaway sex farce and instead give them some serious drama. Today it's all about laziness. It's about finding a "good formula" and repeating it. It's sequels done to ad nauseum, and that I don't respect. Anyone can give their film a poor title, but modern porn seems to be playing "fill in the blank" when they create titles. If you wanna call your big-budget 70mm XXX remake of Lawrence of Arabia "Lawrence Assfucking Arabians," it might be in poor taste and make a good film look bad, but I'd still respect that more than if it were called "This Ain't Lawrence of Arabia XXX." There's bad taste and then there's plain and simple laziness.
I would like to see porn versions of classic stories: folk tales, myths, etc. The parody disclaimers in the titles would be unnecessary and hopefully gone, and the source material would be broader than the stale jizz currently on all tv networks.
In my fantasies, I envision a porn telling of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen -- the full, four-opera saga. It would take some tweaking of the tale to bring in enough opportunities for sex, but that's just a small piece of the ambition required. I also envision a potential audience of one, including me. Wagner, I am convinced, would have approved.
