I know I haven't bought a copy in years. However the first ever picture of a naked woman I saw was Lynn Partington in Penthouse in 1973.

Well, if it does, it wouldn't be a big suprise or loss for that matter. Except for the nude pictorials, everything that mags like Penthouse and Playboy provide can also be found in Maxim, Details, Stuff, and similar fare. Penthouse and Playboy, while at one point may have been relevant, no longer are and have been on autopilot for years.

When the new publishers of Penthouse took over they went softer, thinking that was the problem, but it in my opinion it was not. The hardcore Penthouse was not the problem. The problem was all the weird pictorials like B&D, black & white pictorials and the weird artsie fartsie pictorials like the strange colors of the photos. I liked the old Penthouse with the brunettes. Not enought to subscribe, because I don't subscribe to any mag. I gave up my Playboy subscription back in 1984 because it was to tame. Bought maybe 2 or 3 copies a year.

Doesn't surprise me at all. When Guccione sold out or was forced out or whatever, the new owners turned it into a carbon copy of Playboy. Or at least that's what I've seen in the two issues I bought over the last few years. (One was because I saw some pictures of Cali Taylor online, and just had to have her layout. Rowr!)
Anyway, there's NO guy-girl stuff at all anymore and the layouts they do have aren't nearly as explicit as they used to be. Penthouse used to be kind of a middle ground between Playboy and Hustler, but now it has no identity. Like Rosco said, men looking for info on what kind of stereo to buy, etc. are more likely to buy Maxim or Details; men looking for hardcore photography are going to shift to Hustler, Club or any of the dozen other hardcore mags; and men who still want true dirty pictures in their men's magazine will probably stick with Playboy which at least knows what it is. Without Bob Guccione, Penthouse is just another magazine.
IMHO, anyway.

Marc Bell = Epic Fail.
What do you expect. It's the same company that's behind the Adult Friend Finder scam. I'm dying to see how that Penthouse/Various/Friend Finder IPO goes.

I used to read, well, view, Penthouse in the 80's and always liked their photography. They also had some beautiful and sexy models. But with the advent of readily accessible on line pornography and high quality porn DVDs I stopped buying Penthouse and most other porn magazines. Today I occasionally buy Playboy and Hustler but less and less frequently. Maybe Steve Jobs is right and we're moving to a day when no one reads.

to say nothing of the weird peeing fetish it went through a few years back on the heels of the occasional mid-air cumshot or smoking gang-bang pictorial.
I'm sure that cost a lot of renewal subscribers...

Exactly.
Penthouse hasn't been the same since Robert Palmer and Nick Tosches wrote for the "brown paper" front section. (I think it was called "Keyhole," or something ...)

Jonnyless, liked the pee issues. Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Moore said in his book "Tropic Of Cancer" to paraphrase, when you first love a woman you want to know her favorite food, color and likes and dislikes. You even want to watch her pee.

I would have to agree that it was the return to softcore that was the final nail in the coffin for Penthouse. It was trying to compete with Maxim and all the lad mags. The photos made Playboy seem risque which is kinda hard to do.
I'd rather spend money trying to find issues from the 70's and 80's (the era that I discovered Penthouse) than waste my money on anything they've put out in the past few years.
No offense to any of the women who post on ADT who've appeared in the magazine in recent memory.

junglew, no offense, but pee has a very narrow fanbase. IMHO, it rates the same popularity as preggers and GILF porn.

I still get PH but I really did prefer the filthier incarnation of the magazine with popshots and buttfucks sprinkled throughout.

It will be a shame if / when it goes under. While I haven't done my part to help its sales for nearly a decade, it will still be too bad that such a historic publication will be gone.
