I wasn't taking up my "issues" with a poster at another forum here, in this forum. I was referencing a series of posts at another forum to illustrate the point I was making about how people are dismissive of women in porn: painting them either as victims, damaged, or stupid. I guess whoever it was who locked the thread in which I was making those points ("Sasha Grey's Life to Live") is just as dismissive of arguments and references to outside sources. I also referenced the culture at large and the media.

So consider this my request that the other thread be unlocked (if such a thing is possible). If one is making a point and one references outside sources to illustrate said point, that's hardly dragging in a discussion from another forum. It's providing examples of a mindset, offering a stray quote into evidence. Unless there's some rule in this forum about mentioning other forums. And if there is, that's just weird. Because I've never been to another forum that does that.

And if the other thread is to remain locked, in light of the fact that I have explained my intent with the references (which, I feel compelled to reiterate, had nothing to do with arguing a debate from another forum), could whoever it was who locked the thread explain themselves?

Somehow your post doesn't match any of the above methods to discuss moderation here. Maybe you should read the ettiquette before you continue posting, it's easy to find at the top of each page.

New here. And confused.

Let me get this straight. Are you saying:

A) They locked the thread because they didn't like your argument you presented.

B) They didn't you discussing source material from elsewhere on the web.

C) They didn't like you discussing the fact that there were other forums.

This isn't taking up "issues" with posters at another forum?
The last one is exactly the definition of taking up issues
You can guess or you can read what they wrote:
Which has nothing to do with anyone being dismissive, it is plain and simple, don't drag shit from other sites here.

I personally think Flash (and probably Drew) are taking things just bit too literally here.

MY reading of Rain's earlier post was just someone who was WAY frustrated with people on another forum, and was seeking another audience for discussion. He mentioned this because of the very fact that he wasn't being heard elsewhere.

INDEPENDANT of that fact, I think he made some interesting points. Sasha's not my favorite performer, but I find her incredibly intriguing because she appears to be such a well thought through, and seemingly intelligent girl. I just wish she'd stop being so "hardcore" for the sake of it, but that's entirely another discussion.

Summary: I don't think "Rain" had any ill intent. Specifically, I think there's some thought here that he was subtly (or not so subtly) advertising for that other forum. I'm reasonably sure that is NOT the case.

Just my 2 cents.

I have no idea. They didn't say. And I don't know who locked it. But the last post was from a moderator and quite disapproving of bringing in arguments that would be better made in that other forum. But referencing another forum in the course of making one's points is hardly that. No more so than referencing something in (say) a magazine or a TV show is bringing in an argument that would be better made in that magazine or TV show. I understand that it's a fine line, but I don't believe I crossed it. If you haven't read the original post (and if you're not one of the people who took the time to post a reply of "Yawn" or something along those lines because the post was a bit long, or the guy whose favorite word of the day is "risable"), I was talking about how I think Sasha is just what this industry needs, and then I explained why I believe that to be so, discussing the way that our culture tries to "explain away" women in porn. I referenced the other forum and what is being said there because (I believe) it does the job of illustrating my point. I won't mention them again, but they have a fairly lengthy thread over there called "Is Sasha Grey Stupid?" and how could I NOT reference that when talking about how one of the ways that our culture "explains away" women in porn (or any part of the sex industry, or just sex-positive women in general) as stupid (or damaged or victims)?

But I was also talking about how great Sasha's oral skills (talking) are, and no one said anything about that. And now that the thread is locked, I suppose no one will.

What I did is no different than saying, for example, "Despite what Ben Affleck said over at..." if what Ben Affleck was talking about directly relates to what I'm talking about. It's not dragging in a debate I should be having with Ben Affleck, it's bringing in Ben Affleck and the Affleckian mindset. I also referenced Shirley Manson (completely within context), but I notice because I was being positive about Shirley, I wasn't called on "dragging in Shirley."

Again, what I did does not qualify as dragging in shit. If my post were, "I'm so frustrated with this other forum so I will discuss it here," you would have a point. But since that's not what I was doing, you do not.

Whooooooooooooooooooooa!! Way harsh!!

And, you're a moderator!! Etiquette PLEASE!!

I'm new here but "Houston we have a problem"!!

I've read the postings and I CANNOT see it your way. Rain was using XXXPornTalk as a citation of the type of anti-Sasha sentiment there is in the porn world.

She's not arguing with the thread but discussing the environment of the "Sasha Conversation". To me she's just another angst ridden teen who just quotes the last thing she read.

Rain can point out these people exist and the tenor of her and their beliefs as a reference from which to build a discussion -- which appeared to be taking place in an incipient form before you overreacted.

Very very uncool.

Frustrated with people at another forum? Yes and no. I didn't post here because I was frustrated with them. I started out talking about Sasha's oral skills (talking). I went on about why I believe she's good for this industry (because, hey, I was already talking about her, so why not do it all in the same post?), and then, in trying to explain myself, remembered some of what I read on that other forum and thought, "Hey, what a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I shall include it here." As for the last bit, where I semi-directly responded to someone at that other forum, taken within context, I was addressing Sasha's question about whether her being an existentialist adds to or subtracts from the hotness of her scenes, and then remembered what someone said about that and her sign off ("the fuck junkie") and threw that bit in. I'll give you that that does qualify as dragging something in, but, within context, it was more an offhand remark related to a comment I was making about Sasha than anything else, and a springboard for anyone who wanted to run with the notion that such a thing is or is not hot or is or is not a contradiction. But, considering it was a tiny, tiny piece of a rather lengthy post, it hardly qualifies (in my opinion) for locking down a whole thread.

????????????????????

They locked the thread because they thought mentioning another forum is ADVERTISING it?!?

Were there links removed I did not see? You'd have to go way out of the way to find this other forum's thread, no?

Why do they care about another forum? Is everyone here going to up and leave? I don't think so.

And, at times there may be something interesting mentioned in another "community" elsewhere that you want input from your own people.

If a kid goes to his brother, you know the neighbors are saying this, the brother should engage the kid in conversation. The mother should call it "sh*t" and say DISCUSS IT WITH THEM!!

I happen to have a different viewpoint than Rain on Sasha but I find it valuable that Rain's bringing it up!

Well?

I'm not trying to be harsh or mean, it's just when statements like "and to [person a] at [site q]" then person a feels like they must come and an arguement erupts, it's happened many times here before. And it's something that we try to keep from happening. Explaining why you think Sasha Grey is just what the industry needs is fine, bringing in conversation from other sites isn't.

So when discussing a topic even though you KNOW and I KNOW and Rain KNOWS that a discussion exists elsewhere were not allowed to mention that discussion since it involves another forum?

You'll hear this on the news: "As reported by Reuters" or "from a story in the New York Times".

What was it that Rain quoted from the other site irked you?

Is this a competition thing?

You don't want other porn forums mentioned here?

I'm lost.

Mod:

If you kids hope to continue to be allowed to play here, I'd suggest you learn a little bit of respect for the rules for the forum, and the mods' moderation.

I should point out that brand-new members who pretty much introduce themselves to the forum by attempting to engage the forum mods in an argument aren't doing themselves any favours as it does come across as rather questionable, and transparent.

The mods in most cases have been here for a long time, and in some cases for years. Please read the forum's policy before demanding anything.

I should also point out that DrP0rn0 is a forum user here, not a mod, so any conjecture he has in regard to the reasons for anything are simply guesses.

If you have any issues with the site's moderation, then PLEASE feel free to email Steph or Drew who run the site with your specific complaints.
