just saw sophia burns is having a massive 75 percent off sale on her manyvids page. so i downloaded a much-coveted video that i had been eyeing for half a year for 9 dollars. its original price was 40 plus dollars. the problem is both the original and compressed download options are over 8gb! clearly the compressed version is not compressed as is sometimes the case with manyvids. its a 60 minute video in 4k. i dont really need that high quality of content and surely not that large of a file. any program or trick i can use on my pc to compress it to a say half the size while still retaining good quality and a playable file?

If you want to reduce it to 1080p, I'd use Handbrake.

thanks, i will check that out. yeah 1080p is more than fine with me for content. i just personally find 4k and its file size overkill for the most part.

^ Just a head's up. Handbrake has 4 1080p modes: Very Fast, Fast, HQ, Super HQ, resulting in lower to higher clarity and visual quality. And file size, of course. (These are in the list of Presets. Along with gobs of other Preset formats, which you can likely ignore.) For me, Very Fast results in a video with a bit of observable fuzziness. Fast and HQ are the two that I usually use. Try out all 4 and see which works best for you.

A great way to conduct such a test is to use Avidemux to extract a small chunk of a video. One or two minutes is usually fine. Run that video thru the 4 Handbrake Presets and see which one(s) work best for you. Much quicker than converting a 1-hour video 4 times!

ah thanks. i usually enjoy tinkering with settings especially when it is a cool program. i have a large collection of trailers saved also. those would be perfect to test settings on as they are a fraction of the size of a full video already.
