| murdock Member I'm not an actor, but I play one on TV 911 Posts 4/06 | Quality should be the objective, not quantity, and most of the encoders can be set to achieve constant quality, which is generally going to be the best of both worlds and yield a finished product that is as small as possible while still having the best possible picture quality. Device compatibility is another issue too. Some encode settings will result in better quality/compression but decrease the number of devices a file can be viewed on. But if you want better quality, ask for better quality, not higher bitrates. |

When I was subscribed, MOFOS 720p was 8000kbps (H.264) and 1080p was 12000kbps (H.264), more than your proposed bitrates but a lot of those videos are not as good quality as Brazzers videos which have very similar bitrates.How do you deduce that the codec used to transcode the video is the problem and not the source material? A lack of ambient light can lead to reduced quality video if the ISO is turned up to compensate so whatever codec you use to transcode such video footage becomes academic to an extent. |

Where the technical stuff is helpful, however, is when you have a good, well-shot scene to begin with. On a good scene, a bitrate of 12,000 for a 1080p is well worth it. I would suggest that a better comparison of technical specs can be made by comparing the various video sizes offered by a website for the same scene, and noting the differences. For example, I have found that 4k does nothing for me to merit the huge file size involved. Unfortunately, as more scenes are filmed and offered at 4k, I may have to start downloading them at 4k -- as the companies are doing an increasingly bad job of outputting their lower-resolution files for download. With one scene, I had to download the 4k file because all the other files were corrupted and would not play to completion. Also, one studio -- I'm looking at you NaughtyAmerica -- shoots decent video competently and offers HD downloads at decent resolution (e.g. 192 hex 1080 @ 12.43 Mbps @ 24 fps), yet the files you download play dreadfully. Literally, I have to recode every single NA video I download, in order to have a quality file that plays smoothly. (I rarely encounter these issues with other studio's videos.) FYI, I have the horsepower to handle and process video well. So, that's not an issue for me. (I'm running an i7 CPU on SATA III (6 Gb/s) motherboards with 16 GB RAM on both my media/video machines.) |

Produces virtually flawless results (as long as you're not asking it to do stupid things) You may find this thread of interest. Generally, I recode everything -- and I'm talking about porn videos here, not video files from/for other sources -- as .mp4 files (which most everything tends to be now, anyway). What led me to Movavi Video Converter in the first place was the need to make quality recodes of odd file types I was encountering, of great scenes, but just wouldn't play nice with any software or players. * I keep the frame rate at whatever the original file's is (typically 24fps or 30fps... aka 23.97fps and 29.97fps). * I keep the resolution the same as the original (e.g. 192 hex 1080, 128 hex 720, 64 hex 480, etc.) * I usually bump the bitrate up a bit (e.g. say from 12,000 to 16,000 on a 192 hex 1080 video). (The thread linked to above explains somewhat.) I do a great deal of harvesting and editing of scenes, in addition to doing recodes of entire scenes. For example, I will take a typical Brazzers 192 hex 1080 @ 12,000 kbps @ 29.97 "30" fps, and make my edits at 192 hex 1080 @ 16,000 kbps @ 29.97 "30" fps. I use CyberLink PowerDirector for editing purposes. And, FYI, Movavi Video Converter is far superior to CyberLink's Media Espresso for out-and-out recoding. In fact, Media Espresso's inability to handle the odd/difficult file types was what caused me to search for a better recoding solution in the first place (i.e. Movavi Video Converter). | Goldstein All-Star Member "You have sacrificed nothing and no one." 3689 Posts 8/10 | First thing I'd like you to do, is get the actual details of your video file: * Right-click on the file * Select "Properties" * Select "Details" With this information, I can advise you as to what settings I would suggest. There is no point trying to create a "high quality" file (i.e. with very high quality settings) if the content just isn't up to that level to start with. So, we must ascertain what are suitable settings to salvage the best possible video out of what the original file gives you to work with. You won't necessarily "see a noticeable difference in video quality," unless the playback was so screwed-up and/or with artifacts when playing the WMV file. HOWEVER, your recoded .mp4 file will play smoothly -- including FF, RW and slo-motion -- as opposed to all the playback restrictions WMV files often impose. And, your recoded .mp4 file should play on almost any computer and software. Goldstein also recommends you get VLC Media Player (instead of Media Player Classic) as an excellent free player. |

Now, when video file downloads give me playback problems, I just make a new completely recoded file with Movavi Video Converter. Whether 24fps or 30fps, I'm generally making the recoded files at 12-16 Mbps for 192 hex 1080 .mp4 videos. These newly recoded files play effortlessly on all my computers and playback devices. Not only for fast forwarding, but for reverse and slo-motion playback, as well (i.e. what I would believe is typical porn video viewing habits). As I've said before, I find NaughtyAmerica downloaded videos to be almost unwatchable unless I make new recoded files for viewing purposes. Again, the newly recoded files play perfectly. |

If you set a minimum bitrate that guarantees every clip will look great, the vast majority of clips will be unnecessarily large, which amounts to a huge waste of resources. That raises the cost to maintain the site which raises the prices for consumers. If you set a minimum lower than that, then what's the point? Some clips could still end up looking bad, so your regulation still hasn't fixed anything. This is a situation that isn't conducive to a one-size fits all approach. There is no magical list of settings that will yield a good quality video every time without creating unnecessarily large files. It's a matter of knowing the type of content you're encoding and often times it's still a matter of trial and error. If quality was the only concern, then why bother with compression in the first place? Just post the raw, uncompressed video for everyone to download and watch. Typically, one encounters this when older standard definition 64 hex 480 DVD quality 4:3 aspect ratio video has been improperly re-encoded to H.264 MP4 video(s) for downloads. (The 4:3 aspect ratio got re-encoded with a 16:9 aspect ratio -- by sloppy conversion work by the website -- resulting in distorted stretched images.) One frequently encounters this on Videobox, for example. Well, this past week I found that I can take these screwed-up files and recode them myself, using Movavi Video Converter, and correct the aspect ratio with very satisfactory results You can set your desired aspect ratio to 64 hex 480 and/or 72 hex 480 as part of the conversion process. Since many standard definition Videobox files (i.e. the standard definition files that had their aspect ratios screwed-up during their conversion to H.264 MP4 files) are using about a 1000 kbps bitrate, I also will increase the bitrate to 4,000 kbps for the conversion. This way, there is plenty of "headroom" to preserve video quality for a fairly substantial recoding. The video quality of my newly recoded/converted files, now with the correct aspect ratio restored, is indistinguishable from the skewed originals -- except now the images are scaled properly and look the way they were originally intended to. The reality is that, many older scenes are no longer available on DVDs, and the original studios never made the move to membership websites (probably due to not enough content to make it work). So, the files available on Videobox are, in many cases, the only way many of these older orphaned scenes are available at all. I'm thrilled -- thrilled! -- that I have discovered a satisfactory way to make these scenes watchable again There's a lot of great older standard definition 64 hex 480 content that is being lost, as most membership sites seem to view it as not being economically viable. Fortunately, Videobox manages to pick a lot of this stuff up (even if they screw-up a lot of their conversions). Hope this is helpful.
