To be on the safe side, I would stick with Maxell, Sony. TDK and Verbatim when it comes to CD-R. I've written hundreds of those and they almost always turn out fine. They have lasted for years at high quality output.

I think it is very possible to buy quality CDRs - that last just fine, once burned - but that for some unknown reason, a given burner just doesn't like that brand. TDK is a big brand name with a good rep. I have a burner that hates them. Failure rate during burn is probably 75%. The same burner works fine with Imation CDRs. Failure during burn is rare. How did I learn? Dumb luck. Trial and error. But now I just buy Imation. Could have been a bad batch of TDKs - I'm not saying TDK is bad - just that I have no reason to experiment with them again with that burner. If you can, try a few of some brand other than Memorex, before you buy a supply of them. Eventually you'll find a brand that your burner likes.
