I think you made some valid points, Rocco, I agree with you on the interviews being sometimes preposterous (drop the references to very early sexual experiences, please), but I'm still getting the movie.
Watching an Als model snowballing with Avy Scott is still enticing enough.

Yes, the interviews are somewhat of a problem, I'll get to that in a sec. There's a problem with the audio that's really annoying. The audio track on the Sapphire scene is either out of sync or it's been dubbed (or both). This problem continues throughout the entire sex portion of her scene. It's like watching a dubbed Godzilla movie! At one point you can hear her talking very clearly (with a dick placed firmly in her mouth). I don't think she's a ventriloquist. This ruins what for me could have been the best scene in the flick.

Regarding the interviews. Yes they are pretty lame. In Dave's defense I think he was questioning them in a way that would elicit answers that would go along with the movie's theme. The main thing Dave needs to learn is when to talk & when to listen. Take the Cameron scene. There were periods of awkward silence (she's a shy girl), then when she starts talking & it gets interesting Dave interrupts her. He does this in most of the interviews. The interview with Avy was good (but WAY too short). Ditto for the one with Misty Haze. Honey's could have been great, real cute girl, but Dave interrupted her a lot too. The real annoying thing is asking dumb questions DURING the sex scenes. This is not good at all. A real turn-off.

I counted up the total sex time in the flick. There's about 100 min. of sex (not counting boner footage) & about 30 min. of interview. Still a lot of good sex with a nice mix of girls. I only paid $11 for this movie so I'm not real po'd. It's probably worth around that, even with the flaws, but not up to RLD standards.

Wow is RLD going out of business or what? Anabolic/Dia/EA always seem to be over $20. This may be a sign. That means they must be selling wholesale for about $6.

I hope not. While I did not like all their titles (who does for any company?), I like many of their releases, and they seem to be getting better. Looking at the dvd store where I buy my dvd's, the store has a whole shelf for redlight suggesting that RLD's titles do sell well. It may be that RLD moves stuff to catalog quickly or have a lot of specials to boost sales. I want them to stay in business and become another powerhouse as I do think that RLD has lots of good stuff, and with Brandon and Vince as directors, will only get better.

I have also noticed that RLD puts poor selling titles on the discount list very quickly. I notice several sales for Throat Gaggers 1 shortly after its release, and this title was not a favorite title of mine (nor did it get good reviews). Maybe Someone's Daughter is in the same catagory of being a poor seller.

Just for clarification, I said I paid $11 for Someone's Daughter (that's after a $5 coupon). I think everyone knows ALL Red Light titles (even new releases) are $15.95 at Adult Dvd Empire this month. Maybe you guys did not see RoccoFan's orig. post (click the link in Planet's post above) about this movie. He was livid because he thought he'd wasted a rental fee on this movie. I said I was not real po'd for spending $11 to buy it. It was meant for comparison.

The fact that I am not satisfied with this particular movie does not mean that I'm not satisfied with RLD, in general. I just said it was not up to their usual standard. No company has a perfect record (even EA & Ana/Diabolic). In fact, I have a total of 26 other RLD titles that I'm very satisfied with.

Just to clear everything up, I don't reduce Red Light District product to catalog,DVD Empire called me at the begining of this month and said that red light district product is there best selling product and they are having a 5 year anniversary and there going to sell Red light district product for 15.95 for the month of September, they asked me if I had a problem with that, I said as long as you pay me normal wholesale price for my product I don't care what you sell it for In the month of September, but it will go back to 19.95 at the begining of October, they wanted to get customers to try our product, so hopefully it worked, I will never catalog our product, I care to much about it, for those of you who think we are going out of business, all I can tell you is, Red Light District is moving to a building this week that is 3 times the size we have now, and we bought it, I know theres some other company's that would love to see us go out of business, but I don't think that will happen any time soon, because we care about what goes in our product, maybe we fucked up on Someones Daughter, okay so we try something different, and as long as I own Red Light District, I will always try something different, because I give a fuck about the end user, I will always listen to your input and always give my best.

Kind Regards,
Dion Giarrusso

Good news Dion to know that RLD are moving on to bigger and better things. It is getting to be a Powerhouse with many outstanding releases.

Dion, how about a feature film once in a while? Maybe not now, but when you have a good story, a good cast and a good budget. Vignette films are fine, but sometimes I miss a good, old-style feature like the ones they did in the 70´s.

RFan posted about this movie a week ago & there was a lot of response. I chose to answer in this thread because it explicitly asked for feedback on this movie (I referred to the other thread by mentioning Planet's link to it).

I did not think that anyone could posssibly jump to the conclusion that Red Light was in trouble because I happenned to get it for a good price. The intent of the post was to address the points brought up by RFan. I agreed with part of the criticism, but, as I stated, there's still plenty of good sex in the movie. I guess I'll know better in the future than to assume that people have read all the posts.

I'm sure RLD will continue bringing us high quality movies & bringing in new talent.
Thanks, Dion, for being open to our suggestions & criticisms.

Anchor Bay is putting out a lot of budget-priced titles, and they don´t look like "in trouble". Quite the contrary, in fact.

Planet. Right. I also should mention that I've bought factory sealed VCA, Evil Angel & Anabolic titles for $10, & they're certainly not in trouble either. I just have this habit of spending as little as possbile for something I want.

I've read the feedback here on Someone's Daughter with interest, especially considering it has been almost universally negative.

I stand by this movie.

My original inspiration for it came from a mid-90s Greg Dark movie called The Shocking Truth. In this movie Mr. Dark conducted interviews that had a more pyschological twist, geared towards the girl's background and what makes them do porn. The interviewees were literally under a spotlight in a dark room being questioned. I found the nature of the questions fascinating because they were different.

With Someone's Daughter my goal was to make a movie that captured the truth and got real reactions out of the girls and at the same time present the scenes in a way a little different from the other Red Light titles I did. In some scenes (like Cameron) I did this better than others in regards to capturing the truth of someone's personality. I asked questions that I wanted to know. There are no roles being played. I'm after realism. I didn't want the girls to play a role. I wanted them to be themselves and capture that accordingly.

The bottom line is I like the movie...the questions...the sex...the whole feel. I think it's horny. Whether there's another one will depend if enough other people share my opinion.

I welcome additional feedback and will respond directly.

okay so we try something different, and as long as I own Red Light District, I will always try something different, because I give a fuck about the end user, I will always listen to your input and always give my best.

That's great, I for one can not wait to see the all-girl DVD you guys are working on, or started working on, or will start working on.

I haven't seen Someone's Daughter, but I love Greg Dark, and if David Luger's questions are like that of Shocking Truth's, that would be a cool emulation of a great director.

I think RLD has some of the best consumer relations of any studio. They respond to negative comments, take into consideration what fans are looking for, and try to provide for the fans. How cool is that? If a studio falls into the trap of never trying anything different, you will see the same thing in every production.

You can't win 'em all, and you can't please all of the people all of the time. You can't even please all of the people some of the time. And you can't please some of the people all of the time.

It's a matter of tastes, and here's a monkeywrench thrown in your face... when's there gonna be a she-male DVD?

Of couse, one direct feedback is simply how well it sells. If it sells extremely well, then our opinions are exactly that - opinions.

btw, I would have given it about a 50/50. Not that bac but I have enjoyed other RLD more.

Luger,

I didn´t had the chance to see S´sD, but I have The Shocking Truth. Judging by some sample questions posted here and the questions asked by Greg Dark in ST, there´s a difference in tone.

First of all, ST´s interviews are SCRIPTED. They don´t look like they are, but they are.

I´m not saying that you should ditch the inverviews entirely, but I DO suggest you to re-watch Shocking Truth again and think of another, different questions.

Another complaint is that the interviews are too lenghty. That can be corrected as well. With time, I guess you´ll find a balance.

Remember: Stagliano did some very cryptic/experimental stuff like "De Blonde", "Bare Elegance" and "Dance Fire", and Seymore Butts´ very first movies were somewhat boring. They they found the right pace. The rest is history.

Plus, being a vintage gun enthusiast myself, I just have to root for a person named "Luger"!

Ok I had resisted posting on this thread, but since it got bumped back to the top, screw it. Personally I hate interviews for a number of reasons. One I think they are filler, two I think the girls mostly lie, so who cares anyway, and three when the girls tell the truth, it usually depresses the hell out of me, causing instant loss of wood.

Let me give you an example of number three. I'm ahem, watching Breakin Em In #2, and a fairly cute girl named Paris is getting interviewed. When they get to the first time you had sex question, she answers that her first sexual experience was when she was 12, and that the guy was 27 years old. She actually laughs about it, which tells me that she still doesn't understand exactly what happened to her when she was a kid, and how that might have affected her choice to get into porn in the first place.

Ok, well that right there ruins the scene for me. Let me explain. You see, I have this stupid fantasy or maybe it's better to call it a big lie, where I try to believe that most of the girls in porn are simply sex positive fun loving gals who want to make some quick cash, while doing something they enjoy. When in truth, most of the girls in porn aren't that bright, were abused as kids, have horrible relations with their familiy (possibly due to the abuse) and are now looking to make some quick cash to feed their drug habit or party lifestyle. Girls with pimp boyfriends who recruited them into the business, so could make quick cash farming them out to different companies, only to dump them when they couldn't get regular work any longer.

So you see, when an interview burst my bubble by revealing that the girl in question is seriously fucked up, or desperate, then it's difficult for me to get into the scene.

So ignorance is bliss when it comes to porn, and that's why I usually fast forward through interviews )

Sorry for the rant )

I don't think the responses in Shocking Truth were scripted. What makes you think they are?

I will stand by my post in a thread I posted on this film. I can live with or without the interviews. I like hearing the girls be themselves and just conversing to David about whatever he asks them. I might not like the questions and that is ok I will just FF to something else. Mainly I base my enjoyment of any film on the action between the performers and in this case the first two scenes were quite well done so I consider this a good purchase. I mean I got another great Avy Scott scene and essentially two Cameron scenes so that is nothing but a good thing in my book. Thanks again David and Dion for showcasing these two lovely ladies and please please use them in your g/g line. BTW any news on that series?

Greg told it to a reporter who worked on my mag at the time of the release. The interviews were made with a certain result in mind. There´s room for improvisation, of course, but the way the interviews were headed was scripted.

I just saw Someone's Daughter on Saturday and I agree with RoccoFan...this movie has more downs than ups. A real stinker. Thank god RLD has more good than stinker dvds. I love Red Light!

Dion & David,

1. The issue of the audio sync problem in Sapphire's scene has not been mentioned by anyone (either from RLD or someone who's seen the movie). Out of sync audio is turn-off (as in Elegant Angel's SMUT, I got burned on that one).

2. As I stated before, the sex is more important than the interview. If the interview is not good, I scan forward to the sex. But, interviews can be a real turn on, if done right. There's an art to questioning. You must have the knack of asking questions that get the girl talking, then it's a matter of asking the proper follow-up questions. Example, more response from Cameron on the jack off question would have been appropriate. In general, the girl should be doing most of the talking, not the interviewer.

I just saw SOmeone's Daughter and I must say that I actually liked the interviews. I always find them interesting and I liked that the interviews were longer than usual. I thought it was awesome when Avy Scott and Hunter were talking about being best friends. Then they were talking about how they were going to "out Fuck" eachother. I liked the interview segment with Cameron too. I thought the questions were legitimate. They weren't meant to demean the girl and I don't feel that the interview took away from the sex in any of the scenes. Ive seen some of the "Oral Consumption" dvds from anabolic. Now that is pretty disturbing. I had a very hard time watching that. That was very melicious and demeaning. I remember Cherie basically calling herself a "Piece of Shit" and a "filty little whore after answering a barrage of questions." That is just too much for me. I love hardcore action just like the next guy but I don't like to see anyone being taken advantage of.

RLD or whoever, don't listen to the naysayers. The interviews are fantastic. The more probing and provoking the better: "What would your Dad think about this?" that kind of thing. Get 'em shook up. It turns me on.

Thank You
