The little guy has next to no chance making more than rent money (if that). The newer generations are more tech savvy and paying for porn is becoming an extinct idea. There's just way too much porn being produced and readily available for free for someone with shallow pockets to make a dent. Best advice... save your money and do forget porn. Now, if you're thick-headed and really want to get in, my suggestion would be to start small. If you and your wife are looking to make home movies, that's a start as there's next to no cost in filming yourselves. After you've made a couple videos, test the waters by selling clips on clips4sale.com. They'll host your video and provide you with traffic. This way, you can see if you can provide a product that people enjoy and want to purchase. If you can make it that far, I'd be glad to help you more. Also, this post isn't meant to sound harsh... but the reality is that today's porn landscape is the worst it's ever been (at least for me and I've been doing it for over 10 years).
