Why is that? As soon as you're not looking, someone comes along and takes you by surprise. Or once you are in a relationship, people pop up out of nowhere who are interested in you. You're like "where the hell were you a month ago?".
Yep. Especially when you get married. Heck, jiust ask the guy that started Promisekeepers. Kind of sad that a wedding bad is one of the best babe magnets around.
Saki is leaving on business tomorrow and I just read your post Astro. So I immediatly pipe up, "Hunny, you shouldn't wear your wedding band on your trip." To which of course he replies, "Why's that?" (here's where the thinking on my feet comes in) To which I innocently reply, "Uh, the Lunacy Logic Law in in effect there." LOL!
I've just noticed that some girls would openly flirt... but maybe you're right... perhaps they're doing it because they think the person won't take them up on the offer? Good point.
(I think I picked a handle that's too long. Oh well...)
Onelea - What surprised me most is that this is pretty much true for guys as well as gals. My girlfriend also has found out that when she makes it clear she's available that the backpeddling from guys is just as fast!
Why is everyone so eager to have an anchor tied to their ass? Oh yeah, being single is just a LIVING HELL! I just cry myself to sleep every night not having to explain my every fucking move to someone, or fight about money. Yeah, I really miss those in-laws, too. The criticism, the nagging, the feeling of 'if- I- have- to- look- at- this- person's- mug- one- more- day- I'm- gonna- scream!' And how about having to wash the skid marks out of his shorts, that's real romantic.
O.K.... So I've never actually been married...these are just my observations of some of the people I've known, and my attempt to make those who think they're missing something feel better. While I do enjoy being single, and plan to stay that way, I realize this is not for everyone. But, when you talk about 'giving up', take a realistic look at what you're giving up, and how long do most relationships last these days? And I didn't even touch on when things really get ugly, the lying, the cheating, the using of children as weapons against each other, the obsessing, & long drawn-out court battles. The arrests for domestic violence alone are astronomical, and then a years worth of "anger management" classes which are a joke. Yep, I see it all the time, but no one starts out this way in the beginning...they're so in love (read:lust), they can't see down the road, when this lust starts to wear off. And this is only natural, as humans aren't inherintly monogamous, but the damage we do to each other when this happens is just horrible. And life under the best of circumstances is hard enough.. So, call me cynical, people - I think it's just being realistic.
O.K......I just remembered, I was married (no kids), for a couple of years, but like some trauma, this suppressed memory comes & goes. At 16, I ran off with the first sociopath who told me he loved me. Lucky to have escaped alive, divorced by 18, end of story.
I totally agree that so many people place way too much emphasis on marriage as an inevitable stage of life, and if you miss it then something must be "wrong". Maybe it's because all the married people don't want us single people to have as much fun as them!
Personally, I believe for myself that I've always wanted to have someone in my life, but I don't like the concept of marriage. I'll probably get flamed for this, but it seems like it has no purpose except to involve the government and/or church in a matter which should be a private matter between two individuals.
It's not that I'm not romatnic, but a wedding seems more like a show off of power/wealth than it is a celebration between the two people getting married. And we all know there are so many better ways for two people to celebrate!
SmoothNSlow-Don't worry there is no flaming allowed here, lol
I used to agree entirely on the concept of marriage, but here I am planning a wedding.
We have discussed it though, and we are keeping it simple and not to wrapped up in tradition because it is for our families, our commitment is already made, and a piece of paper will not change that.

I always said I would never get married, but now I'm where Lunacy is. Our grand wedding plan is to have the wedding so remote that only people who REALLY love us will attend ;) I can't comprehend spending thousands of dollars on one party.
It's actually kind of sad that many people can't enjoy being single.
dumblonde
be careful - if you show your enjoyment of being single too much men are going to flock to you and try to be the one who tames you
Kapalua and I had a small wedding. We were going to elope and then have a party with friends and family to celebrate (like we need a big reason to have a party). We thought about it for a while and decided that we wanted our close family and friends to witness us on our happiest day. I didn't get married for any other reason than to express to Kapalua that I couldn't imagine living life without her.
But not all people are alike (thank God). Some people shouldn't get married and some shouldn't have kids. I agree that there's too much pressure on people to follow the pattern of marriage and children. If someone is happy being single, then they should stay single.
Big_gun - Try to be optimistic. Maybe the 7 year old had a cuter sister?
My only advice is to make sure you marry your best friend. If you're lucky... it'll be female too. When you go through tough times, if you're not good friends with your spouse... it'll never last. I'm really lucky I found Kapalua. All of my other female friends irritate me at one point or another. But, I knew I'd marry her when I first met her. I can't explain it... I just knew.
I was terrified at the idea of marriage, but when the-person-who-was-to-become-mrs. astro came along, I couldn't help it. When you find that special person who completes all those things that are lacking in you, and you in them, you can't help but go for them. I was a basket case whenever I thought of our relationship when mrs. astro and I started dating, as she and my roommate's girlfriend were cousins. I kept thinking about how bad it would be if things didn't work out, but couldn't bring myself to not go after her. When those of you out there searching (or even if you're not) find that special someone, you'll both know it.
