Is it actually illegal to sell your own password. I guess the larger question I'm asking is, is an account transferable? And if not, why not. I can let people borrow cds and books.

Selling passwords? Scam.

Multiple IPs accessing site with same pass, will kill a pass, and I doubt that the site is buying the passes, or have enough passes to not kill them. Probably using non legal methods of obtaining those passes. And therefore it must be illegal.

There are ways around the IP thing, but the majority of people don't care to know how.

Report the sites you find that are selling passwords, not quite sure where or how, been a while since I tried to report a site.

Multiple IP's hitting a website AT THE SAME TIME and WITH THE SAME PASSWORD will shut down your account very fast. However, internet porn is MADE for accessibility. I'm on a DSL account and my IP changes frequently. I also travel frequently and hit my favorite paysite subs from my hotel IP connection. If I got shut down for just using my own account in a lawful manner, I'd get royally pissed.

I think the site owners excercise a certain amount of leniency in letting their users access their sites. Of course, even this slight openness can allow sites that "sell/trade" passwords to exist to exploit the system. But the password sites are typically ripoffs....the codes get shut down quickly I'd imagine and it's kind of hard to go complain to your credit card company that you were scammed by a password scamming site now isn't it?

I think the bigger deal is Usenet right now. P2P gets all the bad rap but that's simply because it's easy enough for a trained porn chimp to use it. The P2P scene is mostly flooded with older pirated porn and a lot of it is cut into scenes. Usenet, however, is where the big-time piracy game is played. I am a frequent User for LEGIT purposes, but I can go hit 4-5 usenet forums right now that are offering everyone of the "top 10" DVD's listed in the reviews section for download absolutely free as long as you've got the bandwidth....we are talking entire DVD ISO images here, extra's and all, available for less than an hours' worth of download time on a fast connection. And this includes much of the content from the popular paysites, often posted within hours of the actual paysites posting them. I'm a FTVGirls subscriber and one Usenet group posts the ENTIRE SITE'S CONTENT as a 10 DVD download.

It's amazing to me how quickly this stuff is made available for download...I see DVD titles posted there that haven't even been released yet, meaning it's been pirated either by someone who works inside the industry as an employee or a pre-screen reviewer -OR- by someone with access to an insider. I'm looking right now at a press release for a particularly hyped vid title that's got a release date of May 9 and it's been on one Usenet group for download since April 20. I've not downloaded it and I'm not going to...but it's there and available with 3 clicks if I were a thief. And the poster/group that posted that has since uploaded 25 ADDITIONAL porn flicks since April 20....they even maintain their own website where they brag about what pirated movies are coming up next and write their own reviews for them. How nice of them! That's just one piracy group, there are dozens like them, often competing for bragging rights of who gets the newest "warez" uploaded first.

Just pay for your porn people....it's a fair trade and other than the ridiculous $30+ DVD's that exist out there, it's not that hard to get your money's worth.

It probably is illegal. It certainly is in the contract terms that a password cannot be given away or sold.
As far as what Congress should be doing, this is way down on the list of things they need to straighten out.
Finding the individuals and prosecuting cases is probably not seen as worth the time and money.

The thing is that most people don`t see ``intelectual property`` as a thing that can be steale. For exemple lot of people see stealing as taking something away from somebody, stealing a bike, stealing an audio cd, you take something away from somebody. When it come to internet media its actually a duplicate. Its like asking your friend to copy you his audio casette. Remember that? It was a lot popular in the 90, me and my friends when we where buying an audio casette it pass the whole friend circle to make a copy, this way we saved our money and get more music. It was never a big deal because it was VERY limited. We where around 6 guys usually copying music for each other, it was restricted in our circle. Now with internet, somebody buy a cd and then every body that have internet cause get it over the world. Thats why it became a probleme. Even me i have to admit i do it, but i don`t download whole album, but when i hear a single i download it , listen to it sometimes and most of the time i finish by deleting it when im tired. I don`t listen music often and when i have listen a same tune for 1 week i get bore of it. So this way i don`t have to buy cd for just a couples of days. It come from the fact that resale value of cd have also dropped. I wanted to resale cd the other day , the shop was giving me 3$ each when it cost 20$ new, and they resell it 10$... man what can i do with 3$? its not even a bear in a bar... so the hell with it i said and i kept them as decoration on my desk... thats why these day to buy a cd it must contain a lot of tune i like, and for that i have to download them first to see if i like them. And probleme is most of the time when you already have them...yup you say why should i buy the cd? especially when you end up putting your tune on your pc anyway...

When it come to movie for exemple i always(exept when not possible, if they are not at my local video shop) rent them, make a copy on vhs and here we go. For me a movie that you watch what? 1 time a month maybe less dosen`t worth 25$ i think 5$ is enought, add 2$ a casette that hold 3 movie...so well its 5.75 in the line...and when video club sell the dvds use they sell them for 12.95$ so there not a so big different. Some would say then simply buy the dvd whitout renting...but man i can`t know if i would like the movie, a lot of them i don`t tape them...so i have to pay the 5$ of renting anyway...so well

I used to do that for por too but the video club don`t buy many new release and its kinda of shame putting a porn movie in front of the cute girl that run the video club, i did that when i was 18 because i did not have the hight speed conection and was just so excited to finally be able to see more than just picture on a pc... but i did not rent porn for like near 3 years...the employee of the video club changed and so i don`t want to do it anymore. But i don`t have 30$ to put each month on porn, i have my video game to buy, my comic books, i collect hockey cards, rent movies and all of this with 550$ canadian a month - 300$ that go for the appartement, the food and the internet conection. so make the total...

I buy porn sometimes, but usually 4 hour compilation to make my money worth it, but they come only when the titles are old so yes sometimes i download porn on p2p too. When its avalaible. I don`t say its morally correct, but if i had the money i would gladly pay it, here i don`t have it, and porn is kinda like an adiction for me, i need it. So thats why i was completely for the scene by scene buying a la carte we where talking about, if a scene would be 5$, and be kept forever(not 7 day renting) then i would be absolutely happy to pay it. But buy a 30$ movie with 5$ of shipping(sometimes more) for most of the time only 1 scene(im very selective over pornstar) then no...thats why i like 4 hour compilation that cost 10$ for a bunch of scene, im sure at least 1:30 hour will worth it so thats better.

It isn't legally stealing, it's 'copyright infringement'. It's the industry that keeps calling it 'stealing' so that people will understand that the consequences are similar to stealing.

Many of the paysites I've seen are basically collections of 'stolen' stuff so in that case I don't think it's wrong not to support them by aquiring a pass in an alternative way.

I'm kind of weird when it comes to bootlegs, I can't enjoy the material as much as I would with originals... there's this whole thing about the boxcovers, selecting it from the your shelf and feeling that it's not just a file on a silver disc. I stopped downloading because I ended up buying more than I could afford and didn't had the time to fully enjoy it all.

Is it stealing when the site misrepresents itself by stating they have 100000000 hours of video on their server, but they actually only have about 9 scenes and scads of stills taken from 10 year old movies?

Grow up, kid. We're not talking about food or housing here. The world doesn't owe you entertainment, and the people trying to make you believe you need this shit to be happy are playing you. However, it's YOUR fault that you're buying their BS, so please expect don't me to agree that you have to steal shit because people want to charge more than you want to pay for entertainment.

Try acting like an adult for a change - if something doesn't seem like a good deal then simply don't get it. You'll be amazed to find that life goes on, regardless. And the bonus is you'll stop looking like a whiner.

I'm sorry, but are you suggesting that it's OK to acquire stolen material so long as the thief doesn't profit?

edited because dropping "don't" changed a negative into a positive.

Unfortunately, most things in life are overpriced and for a good reason: all companies and/or individuals are in the business of making as much profit as they can. However, saying that you have to steal because you can't afford something, sorry, I can't agree with that.

If you can't afford it, then don't buy it at all. If you can't afford a car, don't buy it, if you can't afford a house, don't buy it, if you can't afford certain types of food, don't buy them.

No, most ISP service providers give you free Usenet Newserver access as well. You CAN buy a premium Usenet Newserver access package and it will let you download more and/or store the files on their servers longer. Or sometimes your ISP filters out the "adult" newsgroups. Mine doesn't, so it's just part of my normal DSL package. No extra fee required. It's just not heavily advertised so many subscribers have no idea Usenet even exists.

Now you do have to have a newsreader program, and these run the range from free to shareware to commercial apps. But even if you had to pay for Usenet service, 50gigs is equivalent to roughly 70 full-length porn DVD's under Divx compression. That's a lot of illegally-acquired porn.

Regardless, I'm not promoting Usenet-for-free-porn here. Just pointing out that it's out there and copyright infringement or "theft" (you decide) is running rampant. On any given day, at least 40 new porn DVD's are being uploaded to Usenet. And, of course, scads more non-porn commercial product (music, movies, videos, games, etc) is being uploaded there as well. It's a pirates paradise.

Hardware: I'm saying it's more OK. By supporting pirating websites you're contributing to it's survival, if you're not paying you're stealing their bandwidth which may cause them trouble. I've always been royally pissed with people who profit on others like this.

A free marketplace tends to force people to compromise on their desire for profits in order to increase sales. Monopolies are where you get overpricing.

That's an interesting theory, but it sounds a little self-serving to me. In the end, you're still taking copyrighted material without paying the owner for it.

Mmmm...not necessarily. Take a look at the major supermarkets like Sainsbury's or Tesco. They have monopolies over smaller companies, naturally, and their prices are actually cheaper (they can afford to be because they make so much profit, anyway)
I know I'm straying from the topic a little here... :)

Lube : Ok i did not know about that, but maybe my compagny don`t support it, i don`t know, its a local one, only avalaible in a part of the quebec, its not a big compagny like sympatico, aol or something like that. May check up with them but anyway im not really much into complicated things, lets say my pc knowing is still not the biggest.

Hardware : Thats kind of funny to see people call other ``kid`` when they don`t think the same way. Do you want me to resume it simple for you? If i don`t have money to buy a beer, i will not buy it, but if somebody offer it to me, then i will not say no. Same thing here, for exemple i download a bunch of wrestling stuff. In the past years i did not watch WWE Smackdown cause i simply did not have the channel, its not on the normal cable here, so i simply did not watch it, now with a torrent webite i can download it and watch it on my cpu...so man why should i not do it. And for the pay per view, i did not order them before, now they are offered to me for free, what should i do? ``no its morally not correct..`` mouarf why should i restrain myself, i did not order them before anyway, and if the website is closed, and so all of these website, then i will not buy them either, as i don`t consider it worth 30$ first and even if it would worth it i don`t have the money for that, plus i can watch them whatever i want when i dowload, and instead of taping them on tv, i don`t risk electricity breakdown, bad reception and a tape take more place than a cd. I have buy 1 ppv in the past, it was in 2004, it was wrestlemania 20, i made an exeption cause it was suposely THE big show of the last 20 years and i was first disapointed of the quality of the show, not bad but not worthing to overflated price of 50$, and for 5 minute i had a bad reception and had difficulty see all the action.

So well when im downloading you have to see it this way, if i could not download, then i would not buy anyway...so they don`t loose money with me. Then here and there i buy one for the signification to encourage them but thats all.

And to reply to the guy who said he like to have the box and choose his movie etc... well personally i don`t choose them on shelve, i don`t want people see me buy porn, i only on website, secondly there the long wait of the delivery especially in canada. Paying the fee of delivery and finally like i said on a thread before, some title like vivid one for exemple are full of boring adds that can`t be skip, you have to pass 2 minute fast forwarding them and all...arg, with a file on a pc you see what you want only, and if i want to only keep a part of the movie, then i put it on the cutter and keep only the part i want. So i can create my own movie with only stuff i like. And like i said too before, when one girl only interest you in a full movie, then paying 30$ for it...arg. If compagny put someday a ``a la carte`` system for scene by scene with possibility to keep the file, not just streaming or 7 day download etc.

Dude - you have made clear that you steal from the people who make this site possible. think about that before trying to justify your stealing here. adt is free because the honest members here actually buy porn. i'm not sure we should allow thieves like you to abuse the privelege of a free site.

I personally like originals- in the original box, good quality and I know that I'm not stealing from people who took the time to create it. I would feel very cheated if I were a female porn star and knew that certain people weren't paying to watch me perform in front of the camera.

Addiction ? You need it ?

So what happens when you don't have it? Do you flip out?
Run around in circles screaming? Get the shits?
Will your head explode?

or ?

I don't understand why real pornfans would rather download DVD's rips instead of buying original DVD's. I mean as a collector and fan I want the best quality and the original boxcover because I want to see them with proud on my shelves. Money should not be an issue.

Im sure there plenty of guy who do it , not just me, actually i could not do it if i was the only one, a p2p mean Peer to Peer...so if only 1 peer its impossible. Im just the guy who don`t hide doing it. I don`t see much the link between posting on a forum and the pay thing...but well i know this kind of subject turn often into a war between guys for and guys against, i supose the best would be to not talk about it anymore.

Steph, I take it that ADT is 'your' website, so to speak, since you are administrator? I couldn't help noticing that you've been a member since November '99. That really is a long time! In what year did ADT launch? The same year, was it?

Lol no, i just happen to really like sex at all, if not doing it myself i like to watch it, like i said before having hight speed conection i was mostly looking at free stuff over the internet, then the hight speed came and i was able to see more and my standards got up...

Ramsey : Im actually not proud of liking porn, no wonder why im simply call The Dude here, all my porn dvd(i never said i never buy some, i just buy less that the usual guy who don`t download) are hidden in my desk where nobody can see them. And instead of video game that i can resell easily trought a quebec forum with lot of trader there or trought a video game trading club in my city(who also accept normal movie), porn is a lot more hard to resell, especially when your in canada and shipping is more expensive to us people, ebay is mostly the only easy solution and most of the time you don`t get much.

I think when it come to download its not as badly see by some people because its different. I mean when it come to real content im the most honest guy you can get, a day i sold an ebay item and shipping was different for us and canada, the guy was canadian but paid the us rate because i supose he did not saw it was cheaper for canada... i actually refund him the difference... When it got to real things its way for different. But when it come for copyright infregment, i don`t know...for me its not like stealing, cause you don`t take away something from somebody, like i mention its making a duplicate...its different. Thats how i see it, not everybody need to agree with me and i respect every body opinion on it.

I've got kids in the house....not all porn viewers are single males who never have company over to the house. The first thing I do with the porn we buy is to pull the insert out of the sleeve and stick it and the DVD into a DVD binder that stays under lock and key in my bedroom media center.

But even this wouldn't be an issue if I was a pirate. Almost all the bootleg DVD's available for download come with scanned images of the DVD covers for those who want to burn their own copies and print out the inserts for display purposes. Like I said...this is a pretty serious criminal enterprise.

The connection is, even though you are able to use this site for free, it costs a substantial amount of money and resources to operate. ADT will only be able to pay these costs (and hopefully turn a profit for the owners), if members use the shopping links or producers buy advertising. If everyone thought like you, and never paid for porn, the entire industry would collaspe.

To the person who said most things are "overpriced", I couldn't disagree more. Hardware is right. The invisible hand insures that nearly everything is priced just right. There's some exceptions, but porn is not one of them.

A monopoly means there is no competition.

In the situation you describe, Sainsbury and Tesco have more buying power, which is another animal entirely. And their prices are cheaper because their costs are less, not because they make so much profit.

Yes. But this is why people have no problem with P2P, why groups share material - they don't make money doing it, people look at it like copying a cassette tape for a friend, they like spreading their superior taste to others.

I think the scare of file sharing is unjoust, it hasn't yet been proven that sales are declining due to it, some theories claim that we spend our money in diffirent ways, and wouldn't it be weird if we kept spending the same way decade after decade...? I bet that in the 50s,60s and 70s records sold a lot better because of those times but also because home video, MTV, internet and cell phones didn't exist yet to compete.

I look at file sharing as reading a magazine in the store - if there's something you want you buy it... otherwise you leave it on the shelf. A lot of people these days seem to have a very superficial relation to entertainment; they rent a movie then never care about it again, they read the latest novel and give it to someone instead of building a library, they download a song and listen to it until they get tired of it within a few days... it's all fleeting in their minds, until they get old and hit by nostalgia of course...

Many would probably never get in touch with porn if it wasn't for 'stealing' it on the internet, developing a taste for it. I get the feeling people in the business are more concerned about the principle than the actual harm done.

Studies also haven't been done to disprove the theory either. But your point is interesting in that it assumes a "static" level of market demand/consumption and manufacturing projections/creation. Not many businesses thrive with a business plan that indicates zero growth over a number of years. The business owners always plan on MORE consumption of their goods so they always spend towards manufacturing MORE product, or more likely, MORE and DIFFERENT product. And this is where P2P and Usenet piracy become problematic.

Personally, I don't believe that piracy has a significant impact on the sale of NEW goods. People flock to buy the new releases of DVD's in the commercial realm, just as they line up for new CD releases. It's still a sellers market for new releases. It's the stuff that's been out there for a bit that gets pirated heavily.

But the dynamics of the published media business (excluding theatrical releases) are that you make your REVENUE goals from new releases, but you make your PROFITS from your past releases. Porn may differ in that the shelf life for this stuff is incredibly small since you've got so many new releases per week flooding the marketplace and, to be blunt, very little differentiates one from the other when the almost all follow the same formulaic "scripts."

Whether it's shrewed business savvy or just good luck, a lot of the porn publishers have begun to sell non-DRM-encrypted versions of their older releases via private PPV or PPDownload websites. At $60 for 90-days access to the library of Mike John's POV Pervert series, that's good coin for stuff he's a) already shot, b) already released via DVD and c) is just collecting dust on his shelves. Not to mention I'm betting his profits are higher for the web-released content versus the DVD-released versions. These profits drive new ventures and with them, new releases. So it's a direct correlation to new releases.

I'm willing to bet this same principle is at work in the mainstream media industry as well. In fact, I own stock in two large media companies and get their quarterly reports. They complain loudly about the wanton piracy of their new releases. But if you really listen to their worries, it's seated in protecting their stable of existing content and in prolonging the shelf-life of the new releases via "special content and promotions." I've seen quarters where there have been some record-breaking sales of new DVD releases (LOTR for example), but the profits were abysmal, largely due to the amount of marketing that was required to sustain/drive these kinds of revenues. Older content has virtually ZERO marketing costs associated with it, so it's pass-thru from revenue to profit is much higher (lower Cost of Sales). Again, although I'm sure porn is somewhat different, I believe the basic economics are the same.

So outside of studies that prove/disprove anything, I can't for the life of me buy into the concept that piracy of either new or existing content is helping anything. It can only hurt. Piracy of the old stuff erodes profits for the publisher. And piracy of the new stuff, while perhaps not quite as damaging during the first 10-or-so-days of release, greatly compresses the shelflife for "new" releases, as they are so easily copyable and pirateable with current technology. Either way, piracy hurts the business. I don't know how any logical person can arrive at a different conclusion.

look at it this way,
If someone steal and trade passowrds, it can/will jank up your bandwidth bill like crazy.
Now, what if the site is a one man operation, soeone who put time, money and heart into it. This could surely kill his whole business and make him have to shut down.

Ok. So you don't need it after all. You just like it.

I think you are also saying that nothing happens to you if you don't have it either. But originally you offered that as a reason for downloading it - you said you need it.

If nothing happens to you, and you don't need it, then you just shot yourself in the foot.

If you change your mind and tell us that without it that your head will explode, then that would be a good reason. Nobody would hold it against you then. But you might have to prove it to get everybody to believe it.
That could be uncomfortable.

So when you stop downloading it, all that will happen is that you will have to do without - until you can afford to pay for it. You are not alone - get used to it. That is the very reason that I don't have a home in the islands and a private jet to fly me back and forth. I can't afford it.
Learn to do without - it won't kill you.

You said you really like sex. That's nothing special either. There's a few billion people on this planet that wouldn't be here without somebody liking sex.

All I'm trying to do is show you that the things you offer as reasons do not hold up, and to get you to re-think it.

Yes, I own the site with Drew Black. We've been around since November 1999. Going on seven years - it's shocking to me too.

Thank you, snowman, for explaining. And hardware for once again removing the dude's promotion of stealing.

We are not going to tolerate people justifying their porn theft here. Dude, you should have let it go the last time you bragged about your thieving.

The Dude had one of the friendliest looking avatars on the board. It concealed, apparently, a criminal mind.

Maybe he thought he wouldn't be noticed beneath his clever disguise.

If we don't notice your return (unlikely give your . . . uh . . . unique writing style), it's because you're an asshole, and a loser, and no one gives a shit what you have to say.

Get lost and take all your identities with you.

You're wasting your time and ours.

Not sure if you should be proud or not but I am proud of my collection especially the series I have complete like the whole Rodney Moore collection released on DVD (not counting the she-male strokers serie). People ask me why I just don't rent the movies but for me it's a feeling of having something, I don't care if I watch it again or not, I just want to own it.

I bit my tongue for so long on "The Dude". His posts were murder to read and gave me a ginormous headache every time I tried to decipher one. thank you to whoever got rid of him. Plus his avatar reminded me of a gay Dirk Nowitzki.

The reminder of those horrendous Dell commercials was bad enough.
