In theory, I agree with you. The fact is that Stephanie stayed with Wicked Pictures for so long that until recently I honestly did not even know she was still in porn. Whether fair or not, confining yourself to one company for so long most definitely bars you from a completely different group of fans as well as performers. And in the AVN press release about the amicable split Stephanie even says that she felt she had reached the top with Wicked for some time now and that there was no other place to go. She also said there were plenty of other girls she was dying to work with, such as Jesse Jane or Savannah Samson.
I have fanboy visions of seeing her back in gonzo and kicking everyone's ass, proving that you don't have to be a teenager or in your early 20s to do gonzo. And this would open her up to so many new performers. Could you imagine a threesome with Stephanie Swift, Selena Silver, and one of the many gonzo studs? Or any other plausible pairings? Maybe Tom Byron, who worked with her at Elegant Angel, could reel her in for some hot Evolution Erotica scenes. What if somehow Elegant Angel could bring her back in for a contract it would be amazing. Roxanne Hall and Stephanie Swift? Back with EA! I don't really like Elegant righ tnow, but that would definitely put them back on my map, producing the first must-have EA titles for me in quite some time.
She has shown in the past an absolutely exquisite flair for the nasty. However, that was all in the past. I personally think she looks better (have a copy of "XXX Factor", her last Wicked tape, and will review it soon) now than she ever has. But I simply don't see any indication that she has any desire to do any of the stuff I outlined above. First of all, she has been condom-only for a long time now with Wicked and gonzo companies seemingly won't hear of condoms today. Plus, she was working non-condom in the Marc Wallace era, doing several scenes with him. So it is hard to tell what her stance on the issue might be. Second of all, there are rumors that she is girl/girl only now. Third of all, with her quote about wanting to work with other contract girls such as Savanna Samson, Jenna Jameson (both Vivid girls), or Jesse Jane (digital playground) it seems highly likely that she will freelance for just a little bit with other feature companies and then sign up with Vivid.
Here's the thing: anything she does will be fine with me. She has been such a solid performer for so long. But if she signs with Vivid it will be back to a couple of years ago for me: I'll forget that she's even in porno. I just absolutely cannot stand Vivid Video.
But, I am operating largely on heresay and speculation here. There are other female performers around who have been working near to or just as long as her. One example is Lola, who is still doing gonzo. However, a lot of them never made the move up to a company like Wicked and then had to decide where to go from there. Time will tell what happens with Stephanie and it is hard to predict what exactly might happen. I am really hoping that some industry folk respond to this thread with some inside insight onto what Stephanie's percieved plans are. Otherwise, it will be all about patience now.
