Other companies are changing the original picture format to an artificial aspect ratio. Essentailly they are starting with a base of raw footage and changing it into a product that in many cases is so different from the original that it appeals to a different audience. Examples: Adding Background Music or removing the performers voices/sounds Adding horizontal black bars to a movie shot in fullscreen - Still no idea what market this attracts Slowing Down or Speeding up the frame rate Messing with the contrast, removing color, even white washing a picture Blurring, Softening or filtering the picture Compiling two different scenes into one Altering the lighting of the shot Changing the order from the actual order it was shot in Rapid Fire Cuts Etc. Examples of Companies that Have a signifcant percentage of their library doing this: Marc Dorcel Private Etc. Results of the actions: It may attract people interested in artistic porn which could include a high percentage of females, couples, etc However it may detract people interested in purist porn which could include a high percentage of males etc What some companies have done about it: A partial action was for a company to include two audio tracks...Track 1 natural recorded sound...Track 2 natural recorded sound with music overlay Belief: That the underlying content in many of the movies is much more appealing to a segement of the porn consumer. If you ever watched a behind the scene that was left unaltered and appreciated the presentation of that footage better then the film itself. What can be done: 2 Version Movies. 1 would be in a purist form and the other would be in the final edited atistic version. Distributed in Either a 2-disc format or a doublesided one. Such as releasing a movie in fullscreen and artificial widescreen, or artsy and purist, etc. Benefit: A major increase in the market reach of a product. Conversion of people to a studio off their radar. Better Satisfy consumers that put with the art, they like the underlying product just not the effects so they buy it sometimes but not as much as they would without the art More profit...minimal increase expence for a large increase in market Negatives: Possible increase in consumer cost, but not necessarly....could be offset/overcome with the increase in sales Directors might not like their product available in a format not true to their vision [Link] |
