Of course, the police acted nearly as stupid when they let this guy get away when there should have been flashing neon signs saying that he was at least a material witness. They did the murder in his house, right where there were two eyewitnesses who saw that she was the last person with him. They were sending text messages as they planned the hit. Right after they kill this guy, they are hanging around town, involved in shoplifting and using the dead guy's Home Depot card.
