Cherry Kiss is an all star performer who despite have 1300+ scenes under her belt, has never ever crossed paths or legs with Angela White. The straps/toys come out because most watchers prefer to see action that mimicks BG sex, i.e. dick in pussy, and 99% of performers are not into doing anything else that might be related to sex with women if they don't have anyone telling them they have to. For the most part, they became very hostile to sex toys.
^The 90s was a hard time for GG porn. In straight movies, one lesbian scene lasted for only ten or fifteen minutes and it always devolved in using toys. Then, as you comment, there were the all girl features with series like No man's land or Where the boys aren't, but all of the also had the same problems. Too short scenes and always abusing of dildos and other toys. Sometimes, there was a scene that really shined from the rest, maybe because the performers were really good or because it was well executed. Unfortunantely, that was the exception and all of that was due to the indiference of the adult industry. As porn evolved into individual scene releases, there's no more of this effort to tell more elaborate and (at least potentially) interesting stories with interconnected sexy scenes. For a while Girlsway did this with mini-series, but those are very rare now.
Yeah, there is a narrative purpose in those scenes, but lets say the execution is not the best. Put them at the beginning or the end of the scene, not in the middle, when the sex is in its apotheosic moment. I feel it kills the mood for those scenes.
Girlsway used to add men in their scenes and some of them even were abut guys going to catch the women on plain sex which is kind of annoying, if not even worst.
And now things trend a bit more toward those times.
It wouldn't be so bad if the acting during the sex wasn't kinda awful/hilarious. I can handle and/or skip a few toys if the actual body-to-body content is present and good. The one site I am subscribed to has toys in every shoot but the acting during the sexual contact before the toys come out is less retarded than what is mandated in most shoots. I'm not talking about skit dialogue. I mean what the performers do during the sex. Not the first time they did it. In Lesbian Analingus 14, the fourth scene with Aidra Foxand Evelyn Claire features a guy. He ends up inside a closet while Aidra and Evelyn are having sex. At least is justified in the story and it's not like the guy is present in the scene. In fact, the end was funny.

I suspect, much like with dildos and anal and such, most viewers want to see dudes in their lesbian content, contrary to previously prevalent thought.
The scene with Nicole doshi and Ryan Keely is an "ad" scene. I did not write that one nor do I enjoy shooting those types of scenes. The guy is only in the beginning of it and once they move into the main part of the scene, you won't see him anymore.

^Bits from that video will be used in ads, like on Pornhub and whatnot. Usually they highlight the most goofy or XXXXXTTTTREEEEEEEMMMMMEEE!!! parts of a shoot because that's what people click the most. They have to shoot specifically with such...antics...in mind.
