I turned the computer on this morning then left for a while. When I got home the thing had been reset to 2075 and Norton showed that I had "2 problems". I ran Norton and it seems to be cleared up.

Why did this "virus" reset my system clock, just for general knowledge.

Older computers had a battery on the motherboard. When the battery weakened which took 3 or 4 years, one of the first indicators was the clock (RTC or Real Time Clock) wouldn't keep correct time. The chip was RTC/NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory), but most folks called it CMOS. When the battery was replaced sometimes the BIOS had to be reset which was a pain-in-the-ass, especially if it was password-protected.
More recent computers have a chip with an embedded battery which should last 10 years. If someone wanted to keep one of those computers going, those chips cost about $20.
Newer computers have a capacitor which powers the motherboard as long as the computer is plugged into a working wall socket. If the computer is unplugged or there's a power failure that lasts more than a week, the capicitor will fail but the NVRAM can refresh itself from a flash ROM chip when it receives power. Time and date will be lost but that's not hard to correct. It's very reliable.
