Can you be more specific about your wager with your wife (in other words, what specific information you are looking for?) That might be a lot easier than trying to search through Traci Lords information that may or may not be out there.

It's a long shot, but maybe your question is answered in the RAME FAQ in the question Who is Traci Lords and why is she famous?.

As to why you can't find any information on those films in IAFD, the reason is in the IAFD FAQ:

Since most of Traci's movies made in the 80's were labeled kiddie porn (she wasn't old enough to make them), they were removed from the shelves in the USA. Saki's given you a great set of resources to look for info though.

IAFD: I like them as a resource, and would click through their links in support of their site, but limiting access to older material makes little sense. If anything, limiting the newer material would fit that scheme best. Most people don't care about classics (and given the way most companies treat it on dvd, I know why). In any case, I acknowledge that Peter and Co have a great resource-I just wish they'd move on to making all the material available.

The IAFD actually lists all of her movies -- they're not illegal in Europe. If you want to find her stuff, go here. (I assume you only mispelled her name on this thread :-)
Why would you use our site, when you are so beholden to ADT and DVDs in general -- we're far more VHS-oriented for someone of your views (i.e ADT RULEZ! VHS DROOLS!). To be perfectly honest, I would never expect you (and I mean you HD, not the collctive you) to use our site or click thru our links. So I am not sure what your motive is by bringing up our revenue stream.

And limiting access makes very good sense from Peter's POV if you read his sentiments that Saki quoted.

It's difficult to find information on older films, and to compile that information now is very difficult. There aren't many places online you can find that data; mostly because it is so easy to ripoff on-line sources.

Peter feels (at the moment) the data is more valuable where it can't be stolen by robots or other site grabbers whith no scruples.

You are SORELY mistaken. There's a HUGE market in older tapes; and to dismiss it out of hand shows how out of touch you might be.

I'll tell you, the majority of our visitors and quite a few RAME posters are looking to find older tapes with older stars. They're turned off by the directon the industry has taken (robo-babes hacked together by surgeons, mindless sport-fucking with an emphasis on the gape and other extremes, etc.) and instead want to find either the movies of their youth or just something else that's not avaialble to them.

Just because the industry hasn't given the older material a fair shake on DVD does not mean it isn't viable or wanted.

Like it or not, the VHS format is here to stay for quite a while, and while I know this is a DVD-centric forum, to deny VHS' popularity is deluding yourself -- especially when it comes to porn.

I do not think that porn has sold as many DVD players as it has sold VCRs.

If YOU do not care for the classics, please do not paint us all with the same brush. I'm interested in seeing Misty Beethoven on DVD -- if only for the extras -- because, really, what kind of improvement am I going to get over VHS? Crappy source (i.e. old 16mm) is crappy source, only now I can hear the clicks and pops in the digital clarity. (to paraphrase Monty Python.)

Nothing would make me happier, and we may see it in our lifetime, too.

Hi Jeff!

I don't recall ever saying that "ADT Rulez!/VHS Drools! although it's possible that I slipped a few drinks one night or (more likely) someone used my computer. In any case, I make no secret that I have stopped buying dvd porn from anyone not affiliated with ADT. All of the dealings I've had with this policy have either been good or been fixed far quicker than outside sites. That, however, doesn't mean that I would be opposed to using some of your non-dvd links. Just a thought (for the record, I buy stuff for other people too-most of them don't have dvd players yet).

I mentioned revenue streams (athough not as such) in response to Saki's post. If you re-read what was posted, straight from the site I might add, it talks about money a few places, including, "At present, I still feel that my data is a very valuable resource to serious porn fans, and I can see a few ways in which I could eventually make use of the embargoed data to at least pay for some of the cost involved in keeping up this database and keeping it available on the internet." "

I agree that the material is valuable. If it had no value, why would I care? But seriously, The current material has value too. I wonder why the specific date for a cutoff was made.

In any case, I am not "out of touch" in regards to acknowledging VHS's worth to some people. As time moves on, there will always be a niche for those hardcore lovers of dropout's, video noise, and other faults of the medium. Many titles will never come to dvd, Super dvd (or whatever the next version will be called), or crystal. I know a lot of laserdisc fans who are hording anime like there'll be a nuclear attack any day now.

My comments though, focus on the MAJORITY of smut buyers. I, for one, want to buy every great release from my youth. I loved the movies from the 70's and 80's but most of them aren't promoted well, don't have gaping anal, and lack all the subtleties one see's in the latest and greatest "assault the women" porn that are in vogue right now.

I don't want any robots stealing Peter's hard work. I don't want him to get screwed over by humans either. I only pointed out that I, for one, wished there was access for the material at hand. As older titles are released on dvd, many times I find myself thinking some scenes are cut or missing. Some of the stuff I watched 20 years ago might not be fresh in my mind, if you get my drift.

When I review something, it'd be nice if I could speak definitively about a cut scene (we both know most company's aren't going to admit to cuts), or a different length than the original release. Not having access to such a resource limits my ability to "spread the word", yes?

I remember how VCR's became popular. The first movies of note were porn tapes that cost (IIRC) about $150-$300 each. I recall when VCR's, beta or vhs, broke the $1000 mark for a crummy machine. The blanks cost around $25-$30 each. Porn expanded that market more than it will expand dvd. However, dvd is adding a new dimension to porn and to deny THAT would make you just as guilty as you claim I am regarding VHS. (and I think we both know better than to dismiss a format-either format-at this stage in the game).

I know your heart is in the right place. I think dvd will make a good movie last longer. I have some old tapes and even when not being played, they wear. Lines appear, dropouts eat up the tape, and all kinds of noise pops up. I want to see MB on dvd (with all kinds of extra's that weren't on the tape) as much as you. I want to see a lot of stuff that has either been OOP on tape, or could be mastered better.

That said, I expect a long healthy life and hope to see the material in question well before my twilight years. ;) Have a good night Jeff.

Anders,

Traci Lords videos are regularly available on the adults-only category on eBay. You simply need a list of her films, and then do a keyword search on the word "uncut."

But I can't for the life of me figure out what is the big attraction. She never made any really good movies. Almost all got "average" ratings from AVN and Hustler. Many of her sex scenes in her early films, when she was still being touted as "Penthouse Pet Tracy Lords," were simulated. Yes, she is beautiful, but (from the same era) Ginger Lynn is more beautiful; Yes, she was hot, but Christy Canyon and others were hotter.

Anyone who wishes to obtain Traci Lords' porn movies on DVD may be interested to know that several of her earlier titles are now available on disc in France.

The DVDs are region 2/PAL and most include the original English language soundtrack. All have been re-titled for the French market and packaged in the crappiest-looking box covers you're likely to see anywhere, with pictures bearing absolutely no relation to the content of the films themselves! Hilariously, the distributor has attempted French to English translations of the sleeve notes (apparently using Alta Vista) and instead succeeded in producing the biggest collection of gibberish I've ever read in my life (see example below ).

So far I've only seen New Wave Hookers (re-titled 'Devil In The Tail'), and whilst it was nice to see the film again in its orginal form, the picture quality was strictly sub-standard. Definitely not VCA quality but probably better than most bootlegs selling on eBay.

I'm considering whether to buy The Grafenberg Spot and a couple of others but, as blake_fan pointed out, Traci Lords didn't appear in many great porn movies.

Anyway, here are the sleeve notes from New Wave Hookers presented for your entertainment:

"Certainly one of X major of these last years, a succession of sequences where are presented call-girls vague news. Thus Ginger Lynn, with a look punk crad, is done to crunch like a sandwich by schoolboys in fury. But especially, there is Traci Lords disguised in lucifer, it makes live the hellwith his companion who, in spite of its impressiveblow of paring-iron is done lash... in lucifer made Traci to live the hell with his companion."

I have to agree that IAFD limiting their databse to post-89 movies is a mistake. I am always on the lookout for compilation tapes of Ginger Lynn, Amber Lynn, Christy Canyon, Tori Welles etc. Excalibur Films site always seems to have more star based comp tapes than any other site, but occasionally the info they give on a movie is extremely limited. Sometimes they will only have the name of the movie and one of the stars that appears in it, nothing else, which leaves you wondering if it's a feature, or a comp. This is where IAFD's database would come in handy, but all they have is the title of the pre-89 movies and absolutely no info. Too bad.

I don't know about DVD copies of Traci's films but believe it or not you can still find copies of her tapes in most American large cities. Namely because on average most store owners have no idea what it is they are selling. While you are right most of Traci's movies aren't worth the effort of note is the fact the a lot of Christy Canyon's early work was also in Traci Lords films and so was lost when the films were pulled.

M.B. - Imdb.com is by far the best resource when searching for details on pre-1989 adult titles. They include more information than all the porn sites combined, providing full cast/credits, plot summary (if there is one) and ratings for most films. You'll even find out who did the hair and makeup! Where else can you find that kind of trivia?

Look at these two Golden Age classics for an example: Roommates, Bon Appetit

You must register with them before accessing adult film listings. When you've done that, their search engine will find almost any porn film you'd care to mention.
