There are times when I am in the mood for being aroused, but not quite in the mood for porn. It is perhaps a mood best described as a desire to BE "in the mood."

Unfortunately, when I am in moods such as this, I generally find no satisfaction. Porn -- even porn with lots of tease -- doesn't do it, because the arousal is so upfront, so very much "right there." We know what's coming, and it usually comes pretty quickly (no pun intended).

Sexually charged films (e.g., Basic Instinct) don't really do it either. I'm not sure why. Possibly because such films (e.g., Basic Instinct) are usually very bad. Or possibly because, when watching a movie, I get hooked into the drama, not so much the sexual energy, even if it is nice.

But, that said, it's in the direction of what I seek. What I really want is that rush of excitement when one is unexpectedly aroused. One is at a cafe and sees a beautiful woman in a tight outfit. One is watching X2 and is taken by the intensely erotic idea of a shape-shifting lover. (Is this weird and geeky? I hope this is not weird and geeky.) One is holding an apple whose form suddenly and powerfully reminds one of the curve of a girlfriend's breasts.

So, I'm left in a sort of in-between state, and entirely uncertain how to move past it. I want that first-arousal, distilled. But how do I get it? Is there porn that can do this? If so, what is it? If not, what is there?

I hope at least some of you understand what I'm talking about. This is my first real post about porn here. Please be kind!

Xq,

Welcome to the forum.

Are you ‘weird and geeky’? No I don’t think so, but you certainly posed a question that is a tougher one to answer.

I think you have partially answered your own question – “It is perhaps a mood best described as a desire to BE in the mood.

That alone almost describes the problem in trying to answer your question. The apple you are holding suddenly and powerfully reminds you of your girlfriends breast, but to anyone else it is an apple you are holding.

You can be walking down the street and two little doggies are going at it on the front lawn. You look at them and are fascinated by the energy and enthusiasm that they are putting into it, but the other little old dears walking down the street want to whack them with their canes. Your perception is entirely different than theirs, but it is the same act.

(I’m not trying to be facetious, but extending the idea of ‘a desire to BE in the mood’.)

Here is a link to another thread that discusses a little bit about ‘porn and mood’ that you might find interesting.

Is there a genre of porn for what you are looking for, or trying to describe? I don’t think so. In fact one of the dangers, or pitfalls, is that you may watch a particular porn title, see a scene or part of a scene, and it ‘hits’ you that the one particular scene is just about the hottest thing that you have ever seen in your life. But the second time you put the disc in the player and watch it, you’re not in the same mood and the scene is still very good but doesn’t quite hit you as the ‘hottest thing’ that you have ever seen. Why? Because your mood is different.

Hope this answers your question a little bit.

Interesting post, thanks xq!!

I certainly find that there is an unfortunate side of porn, in that it can not only be pretty desensitizing because much of it does follow very similar and rote formulas, but it's also (by it's very nature) not very personalized, which is one of those aspects of sexuality that sometimes makes porn that appeals to our individual tastes so very hard to find.

Not only that, I find that it can have a tendency to make people lazy. In a way it leaves too litte to the imagination--even during the best tease sequences. And what I've found (and I'm sure this must not be true of everyone) only in my imagination can a scenerio, an atmosphere, and even the feelings involved be perfectly suited to what I want at that particular moment. A number of different stimuli can prompt these escapades of imagination... like you it can be something unorthodox... or unexpected, and this, I find, when the timing is right, is far more powerful an experience than anything porn has been able to provide for me (largely I think because of some of the factors above).

I certainly haven't found any consistent means of making this happen, though. Sometimes porn (of whatever particular type I happen to be after at that moment) is just the ticket and works just fine. Sometimes it doesn't, and I have to take a break (I'm on one of those breaks as we speak), and I look to other means of relieving that sexual tension. This could mean simply looking to my imagination to concoct some scenerio with specific people... or remembering some pretty girl that I saw in the store last week, and relying on the pure emotional waves of that experience (without any elaborate set up) to carry my release. I have yet to find a consistent way of finding that, exciting arousal. This does, however, remind me of another very powerful and personal arousing experience that I might write about seperately sometime. It's something that I should discuss further with others before I share it here, though. Anyway, it's a hit or miss proposition for me--but I embrace it when the stimulous and the mood just happens to hit me just right. No amount or quality of porn can match what my own brain and real life stimulous can provide... :)

This probably had nothing to do with your post, but it prompted me to think, so I thought I'd share... :) Then of course, I have to say also that none of this replaces the many benefits of having an actual sexual relationship with my wife... which is certainly a big part of my life as well.

Mike L.
