| Saki At-Large 2087 Posts 11/99 | Posted - Sep 7 2003 : 6:52PM If you were to amortize a professional DVD recorder over the projected number of discs that people would buy, throw in a keep case, print the disc label and insert, pay the person who records the compilation then packs and ships it, add marketing and e-commerce overhead, the cost of the recordable media itself, and then throw in a markup to make it worthwhile, you're starting to talk about a little more than $1.50. In fact, if you're taking scenes from non-catalog titles, there will probably be more markup since you'd be cannibalizing content from your new release titles. The same "DVD technology is cheaper now than ever before" reasoning could be applied to amateurs websites who sell their videos direct. There's no way that the technology alone accounts for $30-50 for a DVD-R...rather the overhead and margin. [Link] |
