I've been away from the forum and reviewing for a long time now and am looking at getting back into the swing of things and just came across your question.
As far as how I give my final DVD rating score:
1. I start off mathematically like most reviewers, a DVD with scenes rated mostly 3 out of 5 equals a final score of 3 for example.
2. I add in a factor that other reviewers don't. I don't go strictly 100 percent mathematically because I feel that if there is one or two scenes that don't get a perfect score, it brings down the overall rating, and DVDs are punished for putting more porn on the disc. For example, I don't find it fair or accurate to say one DVD that has 4 scenes that score a 5, gets a 5 overall rating. While another DVD that also has 4 scenes that score a 5, but has one extra scene that scores a 4, should get a lower rating. So I use some discretion in the fact that many DVDs have around 4 total scenes. As someone who has reviewed a lot of compilations, this practice comes in handy because there are a lot of average scenes on many compilations because there are so many scenes. However if there are enough top quality scenes, I treat the rest as extra porn that's thrown in there and don't count it against them for putting more porn on the disc. For example in my review of "I Love Paulina" it had five scenes that I rated a 5 and two I rated at 4 and 3.5. I don't feel it's fair or accurate to say I'll give it a 5 if they would have removed those two scenes that scored slightly lower. So I don't punish for extra porn. The review of "I Love Paulina"...

3. I factor in how it compares to other titles in it's genre/category in my final decision on rounding slightly up or down. But never by too far outside of the mathematical average.
So I tend to average from the 4 highest rated scenes. If it has 8 scenes squeezed on a disc and four to five of them score a 4, I'll lean towards an overall score of a 4 if the rest are average.

..it had 4 scenes that I rated excellent (5 out of 5). Given how rare it is for me to find 4 scenes that I'd rate 5 stars on one DVD, I viewed the 5th scene rated 80% as more of an extra. Given many DVDs out there only have 4 scenes, I felt it met it's quota and some. In the genre of POV, it stood significantly out.
I feel DVDs shouldn't be penalized to the point where they are better off leaving one scene off that might not be a 5 out of 5 just so they can score higher or please reviewers. If they wanted to throw an extra 6th, 7th, 8th scene in that was rated a 4, I wouldn't suddenly drop my rating because they are giving me more porn because the math gets adjusted. I base my final number on how many great scenes are on the DVD overall.
