There was a BIG marketing and PR effort to promote Tera. I remember an article a couple of years back about "The Marketing of Tera Patrick", and gave quite a few details on the expense and effort that was made.

In my opinion, Tera Patrick is/was a very solid sexual performer. She has a sexuality that comes across the screen, at least to me, so I don't necessarily find her to be overrated. There are going to be plenty of people who disagree, but there's going to be a variety of opinions for any lady. Personally, just because a "slutty raw animal super intense" chick is that way doesn't mean she's going to be a winner. It's a combination of looks, sexual energy, and some kind of intangible charisma/sexuality/je ne sais quoi that make certain ladies stand out from others. I think Tera Patrick had those qualities. No doubt the PR campaign helped, but it worked for a reason.
In my opinion, she's over-rated as a performer. She's a beautiful girl though. I think most of the Vivid girls are except for maybe Sunrise Adams. Well that's just my 2 cents..
I like tera, always have, but I agree that to a certain extent she is overated, however overrated is always in the eye of the beholder. In my opinion, there are many girls that are in the upper grouping of performers, some of them get huge publicity, some of them do not, but all of them are not that far superior or inferior to one another. That said, when any girl recieves the kind of hype that Tera or Jenna recieved, thier always gonna fall short to some if not many people, because thier simply is not the gap of sexual prowess, that is represented in the different levels of promotion.
In my experience, Tera is a bit inconsistent, and that is her biggest flaw. Some of her performances are just fucking incredible to watch, the passion and intensity is there, and she can turn on the sexy talk and motions like few others. But then there are other scenes of hers, that are like, "Man, is this the same girl" kind of a lifeless feel and even her looks sometimes are not at that super hot level, maybe it is makeup, I don't know, but there does seem to be some large wavering at times with Tera.
For the most part though I think she is really hot, and while I would like to see her do some nastier stuff, she did a great job of being elegantly nasty in several films, and I like that.
I definitely looking forward to it. Not for Tera making out with her biker husband but for her first real girl-girl scene.
