"You can't rent or show this in public." But we are renting the videos, aren't we? Do stores pay more for rental copies? God, it took loading the disk 10 times to get that wording correct. I thought it mentioned renting, too, but I guess not. So a store buys a disk and rents it to us and that is considered authorized distribution. But my buying a disk and putting two minutes of a movie on my site is considered unauthorized distribution. How about if I charge to view it on my site? Still unauthorized, right? So who gives the stores the authorization to rent the video? The legalize there never made much sense to me. The store rental model is based on the idea that the DVD is only possessed by any one person at a time. That's why stores have to buy multiple copies of DVDs they think will be popular. If they make additional copies and rent those out, it's called piracy. [Link] |
