Belladonna would be the most active and prolific, but she's been stuck in the g/g niche for quite some time, her last two titles notwithstanding. Only Gina Lynn, out of the remainder of the list, has the pedigree and potential to really push sales. If Nina Hartley is still a big player, it's because of her instructional videos, so she might actually be selling well, although she says she's through performing. Nothing as egregious here as listing Ron Jeremy as a name that pushes sales, but that's for the other thread. [Link]

Ron Jeremy is the number one living male pornstar hands down when it comes to selling product. He is a celebrity outside of the pornworld, as much as, if not moreso, than Goddess Jenna herself. To the mainstream world, he is the male face of the porn industry. Name recognition sells shit. No matter what you may say about how Ron looks or fucks, porn newbies go into porn shops, recognize his name and face, then pick up his videos. ka-ching. Not only that, but both Ron and Jenna's mainstream celebrity help the industry as a whole. When they're in a film or a tv show, we're all in that film or tv show. And we all reap the benefits of the people who say to themselves "Wow...that Ron/Jenna sure is funny/pretty. I think I'll go get a porno!" ka-ching. I sometimes shudder quietly when I think about what the industry will do if Jenna or Ron retire. Who will take their places as our celebrity representatives? [Link]

Rather, she should replace Shane since Shane doesn't perform anymore. Yes, Kami...it is hard to pick. The women performers definitely sell the videos for the most part...but it's almost like there's so many performers that they're interchangeable. Or, if not "interchangeable", then "every performer has her fan base." Know what I mean? The fanship is spread out among all the hundreds of female performers, as opposed to focussed on a few stars. It's harder for a woman to achieve star status when there's such a large amount of good performers. Hmm...it also doesn't help that many female legends (e.g. Jill, Janine, Teri, Chasey) don't perform full force anymore. What does it take for a female performer to reach that "superstar" status? My guess is, the same thing I guessed for the men: mainstream recognition. Like... a pictorial in Playboy or Penthouse (Teri Wiegel, Janine). Also their names will pretty much be associated with porn till the day they die, and they can put their skills to continuing to expose porn to the mainstream, so you won't have to worry about either for a while yet I think.
