You may have seen the new Alert System announcement on the home page this morning. I'm sure there will be a few questions about using the system. Please post them here.

I've seen a lot of people creating alert profiles since we launched it this morning. I hope everyone finds it useful.

This info is for those of you that come right to the forum and skip the home page:

The Alert System is an automated notification system. We'll drop you a daily/weekly email for any new reviews, DVD releases, coupons/sales or price drops you're interested in. There are five general types of alerts: review related alerts, new DVD releases, store related alerts, price alerts and coupon notifications.

Review alerts:
You can choose to receive email alerts when there is a new review of a particular title, a new review from a particular studio, and/or a new review within the categorie(s) of your choosing. For instance you can choose to be alerted of new anime reviews from NuTech or all new reviews of Private DVDs and Evil Angel DVDs or all new reviews of couples movies. Add studio and category alerts by logging into your alert account. If you want to be alerted to new reviews of specific DVDs, go to the price search results for the item and click the Review Alert icon on the right side of the page.

Some of the most popular review alert configurations will be for new reviews of DVDs from a specific studio. If you're one of the studio reps that provides ADT with screeners you should sign up for the alert system to be automatically notified when your reviews are posted. I already see a few people have set up review alerts for Anabolic/Diabolic/Private DVDs.

DVD Alerts
Want to know when your favorite VHS titles hit DVD? Set up a DVD Alert for all new DVDs from that particular studio.

Store Alerts
What if there's a new DVD out but your favorite retailer doesn't have it listed on their site yet? The alert system can drop you a note when they have it for sale. Just find the DVD in our price search and go to the Store Alert section at the bottom of the page. Select the store your interested in and we'll drop you a note when they have it.

Price Alerts
Want to know if a DVD drops in price? The alert system will do that too. At the bottom of every price search page there's a Price Alert section. Select the retailer(s) you're interested in buying it from and enter the price point we should monitor. If it ever becomes available for less than your price you'll get an email.

The alert system can also let you know when any retailers offer new specials, promotions or coupons.

You have complete control over which alerts you receive. You can enable/disable or delete all alerts you configure easily through the web site. You can even delete your alert profile if you no longer wish to receive any emails.

Here's a sample email:

All of the movie titles in the area above are actually links to the respective pages here on ADT. They just don't cut and past very well.

If you have any questions about setting up alerts please post them here.

Another thing I forgot to mention:

The alert system is a more than just a notification mechanism. It's also a type of data collection tool for us to use in managing ADT.

Review alerts will be used to help prioritize which DVDs we get reviewed. If we see a few people requesting review alerts for a specific DVD, we'll try to get it reviewed. With this type of input we'll know what people are interested in seeing.

The store alerts will be quite handy tools too. There's a lot of work in mantaining our price search data. If we see people looking to be notified when a particular DVD is available from their favorite store we'll keep an eye out for it and be sure it's linked up and ready the day it's available.

I just noticed that on the Alert System, you can be notified for "Older Women" reviews or specials under category of movie. On the review search page, "Older Women" isn't available as a searchable category, so I was wondering if the alerts will ever turn anything up if it isn't an existing category?

necromania - a category does not appear on the reviews search page if there aren't any reviews in that category. the alert system will still work - it would send you an alert when there is a new review in the older women category.

Hmmm...I didn't know that. It's interesting that we have categories that don't yet contain any reviews; maybe I can help. Just curious: how are we defining "Older Women?" Over 35? Over 50?

Normally the Riley system, where if they can reach the gas pedal on the car they're an older woman, isn't used around here. I think it depends on the hair color. If they're a redhead, anything over 25 is an older woman, otherwise it's 30.

The review system and the price search share the same group of categories. The only difference being that the review search limits your selections to studios/categories that we have with matching reviews. That way someone doesn't select a review search option and end up with no matching search results.

YogaGrrl - basically it's what is standardly labeled as "granny porn". our category system could use work - new categories - better categorizing of movies. we go with what the online stores and/or studios use as categories. perhaps someday we can give the system an overhaul, but don't have the time/resources right now.

Thanks for the answer. I'm surprised there haven't been any reviews.
