So far, I think there are more than 5 that are the best out there. Every company has more than one solid seller.
For my taste I say these are the best ones I've seen to date, but note, I need to see way more, because I never was into porn collecting, until dvd came. YES! 
1) Timeless (VCA, awesome! Hardcore anal and vagina banging)
2) Body Slammin 2: Down and Dirty (Great fucking, intense, and intense anal fucking)
3) Seven Deadly Sins (Great title from Vivid with great hardcore sex.)
Now..I have to get Shock and Latex because I hear that they are awesome, and I want to see if it's true.
I think more and more titles will get better as companies are making good profit on dvd. [Link] |

That depends on what you want in the way of top 5. I learn towards the classics and some gonzo. But for my taste gonzo even getting a little too extreme for my taste. So where does that leave me? Well my top 5 would be:
1. Insatiable,
2. Devil in Miss Jones 3 and 4
3. Any of the 6 available Freshman Fantasies
4. Torn
5. Still Insatiable
The last 2 are because they have 2 of my all-time favorite Porn Actress,Ginger Lynn and Marilyn Chambers.
This is from a collection of 58 adult DVD's. I could have added different titles if I had them in my collection.

nruddock: I don't understand the appeal either. Alex Sanders has made better gonzos than Bodyslammin' #2 and Digital Playground has produced better DVDs. I'm just surprised that people like #2 better than #1. I thought the cast of #1 was better and #1 was more "groundbreaking" at the time.

The titles on this list are generally considered to be the "cream-of-the-crop" on adult DVD.
In no particular order:
[url=467646]ZAZEL</A- A beautifully filmed masterpiece by Philip Mond featuring gorgeous Penthouse Pets. Very few adult films achieve this high level of quality.
[url=467647]INSATIABLE</A- Considered by some to be the greatest adult film ever made. You can't go wrong with a young Marilyn Chambers, John Holmes and a quality transfer by I Candy. A true classic.
[url=467648]SEARCH FOR THE SNOW LEOPARD </A- A solid, well-done adult feature with great cast and great sex. Makes a great couples film.
[url=467649]SEVEN DEADLY SINS</A- Winner of several 1999 AVN awards including best film.
[url=467651]ELECTRIC SEX</A- This stylish DVD doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. It has an excellent transfer and is packed with extras including a full-length commentary track by the director.
[url=467653]CASHMERE</A was the winner of AVN's BEST DVD award for good reason. It's very well done and very stylish. Featuring a 50's & 60's musical theme, CASHMERE isn't your typical porno flick. Fans of hardcore gonzo might find this DVD slightly tame but it's a great couples choice.
[url=467410]REAL SEX MAGAZINE 18</A- A combination gonzo/amateur title, this DVD is always a pleaser because of the fresh talent and enthusiastic sex.
[url=467655]SEX 1&2</A-Another underrated DVD that is often overlooked by porn fans. This double-feature is 2 great Michael Ninn movies for the price of 1.

While I don't agree with all of five_star's recommendations, I agree with the vast majority of them.
I'm convinced that you can pretty much tell the porn tastes of someone based on their lists of favorite DVDs and favorite actresses.
The list that five_star posted seems to indicate the Five Star staff likes:
1. High gloss, beautifully shot porn with high production values (Zazel, Cashmere, DMJ6, Dinner Party 2, Pyramid, Diva Girls)
2. Porn with plots and developed stories versus strictly gonzo or wall-to-wall sex videos (Insatiable, Search for the Snow Leopard, Seven Deadly Sins, Torn)
3. DVDs that offer a lot of value in terms of extra content or features (Electric Sex, Sex/Sex2, Flashpoint)
4. Newcomers and young, natural, and innocent looking girls (Real Sex Magazine, Freshman Fantasies, Up & Cummers)
On the other hand, there seems to be another camp of folks looking for on-the-edge sex, true gonzos, fetish, big tits, etc. That's where titles like Kelly the Coed, Every Man's Fetish, Bodyslammin', Cumback Pussy, and the Virtual Sex series come in.
I think it's important to understand where people are coming from when they make recommendations, especially since people have different sexual tastes.
From my perspective, my interests fall closely with five_star's or Gojira54's. Although I like gonzos and other types of movies, I consider them to be the "average" porn fare (meaning that the vast majority of porn today is made like that). Personally, I long for something that raises the bar, which is why I tend to go for the titles that have high production values or well-developed stories in addition to hot sex.
Anyway, I thought I'd point that out, because if you take the recommendations of someone who doesn't share your tastes, you will probably be disappointed (i.e. "I can't believe you recommended that gonzo to me!" or "That film was BORING!")

Since I'm seeing more and more porn all the time I change my mind constantly. Recently I saw DMJ II and was blown away by how great it is (romantic even.)
So for now I'll go with:

Eruption (I love John Holmes - what can I say.)
