I know the focus of many is cross-over appeal, but I would define big in terms of longevity, creativity, diversity, and ability to generate revenue - not to mention being insanely hot and fuck like you wrote the book. I would like to set aside the notion of needing to "cross-over". It is defeatist language, in a way, that connotes a need for approval - and yes I do understand the threat of right wing legislation. That being said, for fans (and I disagree that true fans are all raincoaters, another word that summons negative stereotypes) I would have to say the ones who help shape adult today, year 2009... Jenna Haze Belladonna Sasha Grey Bobbi Star
Agreed on all points. Seems to me Nimrod is propagating the myth because he WANTS it to be true, rather than repeating a myth he he BELIEVES to be true. I'd rather watch a girl getting fucked by a guy of the same race and roughly the same age (the kind of guy she's most likely to hook-up with in real life), because it is more believable to me she could be enjoying it, and often times those are indeed the best scenes in terms of chemistry and action between the performers. So I'm less likely to watch an IR scene, but I certainly don't rule it out, and it has no impact on whether I'd watch the girl in other scenes. I'd prefer the industry had more white male talent, but it is what it is.
You really think the industry doesn't have much white male talent? You think there is more black, asian or hispanic male talents? By the way, I watch other kinds of porn besides IR, whether it's white, hispanic or white. I care more for the girls than the guys. Edited by - Nimrod on 8/16/2009 6:01:49 PM
Is the ranking list on freeones based on users typing in names or also clicking on names on the frontpage? If the latter is in the count its kinda hard not getting kicked of the list if you are a performer that is popular and do alot of shoots.
I'm surpried you didn't put Stormy Daniels before Belladonna and Bobbi Star. I think Belladonna would have been big if she learned to say No...that woman will do anything on camera.
I only meant if there were better white talent then the IR would just be an IR fetish. Lex does as many scenes with white girls as he does, not because there's that much demand for IR, but because viewers want to see their favorites get fucked by guys with huge cocks, and Lex is a good performer with a big cock. If there were half a dozen white guys as good as Lex, a lot less of his work would be with white girls -- he'd do some IR-specific work, and of course fuck all the black girls. And the irony is, then there'd probably be more of a stigma for girls doing IR.
I can't stand watching scenes with that Lex dude. He always ruin it for me...I don't know why he's so popular. There are guys who are just as big as him too but they get no work.
I got tired reading the posts but 1 name I didnt see and thought would have definitely have been mentioned is Gina Lynn. She was it, not to long ago. Say 2001-2005 or 2006. She has main stream exposure and a heavy porn following. Sasha Grey doesnt have that, nor Gianna, nor Lisa Ann. As far as 2009 and beyond, I havent a clue. New girls coming in, all the same.
I can tell you from experience that guys under the age of 25 who don't watch porn know who Lexi Belle is because Lexi Belle is THE favorite girl of college and teen guys. The younger porn fan demo doesn't care about Lisa Ann or Belladonna or Stormy Daniels. Just because Lexi hasn't made a mainstream movie or been on a reality show doesn't mean she doesn't have millions of fans. She does. Her scenes are always the top ranked at the tube sites. Always.
Since this thread was commenced Sasha Gray has upped the mainstream ante - see not-Porn WikiLeaks details for her modelling/acting/music/writing achievements. Not everyone is impressed (2nd article). OTOH in the plain old vanilla low-brow mainstream 'celebrity' recognition stakes... Lisa Ann in NY Post - 27 March 2011 amongst Hollywood/Global A, B, C and D-listers. Ginger Lynn , Jenna Jameson and all other iconic pornstars were well known all over the world even outside of porn which is not the case of many of the girls mentioned here , some of them are though Stoya , Sasha Grey, Bree Olson, Belladonna are among them Silvia Saint was another but she is European not American I have to say that Jenna Haze doesn't fit this requirement I had to explain who she was even to a porn regular consumer here. Bobbi Starr and Lexi Belle are well known even more than Jenna Ashlynn Brooke is almost unknown even a retailer asked me who she was EDIT By the way the IR thing has almost no meaning here , to my knowledge there aren't issues whether doing it or not , nor there are any issue about ruined careers , it has no influence Edited by - Laurie Cameron Fan on 4/2/2011 6:04:58 PM
No, not really. I notice here that a new girl will come around every so often and cause a stir but it doesn't ever last that long. There've been a few new Gonzo girls that catch people's attention for awhile but I don't think we've seen any new contract girls or girls from WICKED, VIVID, or DIGITAL PLAYGROUND really getting a lot of attention in a long time.
I think Sasha (or any pornstar) will only get mainstream attention because they're a pornstar. When you eliminate the pornstar aspect from Sasha Grey you're just left with another pretty girl who wants to be an actress. The reason she gets mentioned about her role on ENTOURAGE is because she's a pornstar who's playing a role on a mainstream show. I don't think I've ever seen her mentioned for any other reason. The same with THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE. I don't think that's bad per se because if that's what it takes to get your shot you should exploit it. But realistically, I don't think any pornstar will ever have any sort of real sustainable mainstream career over time without it being about what they did before. Even Tracy Lords can't get totally past it after all this time. Jenna's success came from her embracing her porn career. When she stopped people quickly lost interest in her. Tera Patrick is trying (or tried) to go mainstream and wants people to move past her porn career but when you take the porn career aspect away from Tera what makes her any different from thousands of other pretty girls who want a shot at fame? If Tera doesn't want to talk about her porn past most people don't want to be bothered interviewing her. Unless a pornstar is so incredibly talented at something that, that talent overshadows her porn past it will always be about the porn with ex or current pornstars trying to go mainstream that gets any recognition.
Jesse Jane is the Jenna Jameson of now. And I would say Gianna Michaels comes closest to Christy Canyon in looks and performance. All the stars you mentioned above were products of the two major contract girl companies from that era -- Vivid and Wicked. Those were really the only two companies who invested a lot of money in marketing their contract stars. They were also the guys who had movies on cable TV giving their stars the largest exposure to mainstream audiences. But that era is gone. When was the last time you use PPV for porn on cable? As the market became more open and exploded fans started gravitating toward more hardcore stuff. Back then those guys were large fish in a small pond. Now its a huge pond with a lot of fish. Nowadays you hear more talk about the Spiegler girls (past and present) than the Vivid or Wicked girls. Look at the current crop of contract girls. Vivid dump all their girls. Yeah Jesse Jane looks cute but do you really want to see her bang the same guy over and over again in her movies? Doing the standard one or two scenes (typically one lesbian scene) just so they can put her face on the box cover? There is just a lot more to choose from nowadays. There is too much competition. The feature companies still have the cable and hotel PPV market I guess. But the internet really cracked their hold on the market.
Also nowadays there is more niche porn , many customers choose a specific kind of porn, directors , kind of females , ethnicity and so on not to mention those who look at fetished porn exclusively
The Janet Jackson backlash wiped out many shows that could have featured pornstars. The pendulum will eventually swing back to sex, especially if cable providers lose customers while FyreTV grows.
