Jenna was there and she had a line of fans trying to get autograpsh and pics. Vivid had a booth and its stars were there, also with a long line of fans. Plenty of porn starlets were there...Savanna Samson, Nina Mercedez, Jenna Haze, Tera Patrick, Kylie Ireland, Aurora Snow...plenty of stars; Ron Jeremy and a few of the guys were there. All the studios had boothes, dvd rental outlets were there; Strip clubs like Deja Vu and Spirment Rhino each had their own corner; a fashion show, exhibits. It was a real porn blast. Thousands of fans over the three days. Last year there were no real stars. Up and comers, basically the nobodies who were trying to make a name for themselves. rental outlets were down to a bear minimum. The place was practically empty. It was deserted. Last June, XFANZ/XBIZ held their first summer expo at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. I guess there wasn't a second this year. Of course, there's ADULTCON. At present, they completed two LA shows in March and July. They have a third in Las Vegas in November, and the last show is in December back in LA. For next year, according to published news reports, ADULTCON has decided to cancel two of three LA shows (link) in order to "minimize" confusion between itself and Exxotica and a smaller show called Everything to Do with Sex. It alleges that more adult expos being held at the LA Convention would dilute the audience for everyone. In some news reports, you can recognize a particular quote from J. Handy, director of Victory Tradeshow Management, which produces Exxxotica, state that "we are the Mall of America and [ADULTCON] are the flea market down the street." If you have been to both shows, then Handy's words are undoubtedly true. From one viewpoint, the ADULTCON show is in decline. You are unlikely to find any A-list adult stars at the show. You won't find any adult movie studios or major vendors either. There was a big hoopla on Kayden Kross coming to the July show on Saturday, but according to her X-Critic Blog, she was not too pleased with what she saw. Yeah, you can find Sophia Santi or Dana DeArmond, or Phoenix Marie, but one may find mostly B or C-list adult models/stars, plus glamour/lingerie models, and a small number of vendors. It was fortunate for a fellow photog I know who managed to get a photo with Kayden before she left. If you are a fan, the venue was much too large. There were 3-4 rows of booths and set about 50 yards apart. You could probably finish walking around that place in a short amount of time, and you have to wonder if that $35 or $50 VIP was really worth it. Seminar space, just one small section. VIP space, also small, not worth he extra $15. Getting inside early, from what I've heard, there was no waiting outside. For models/vendors, talk about being treated unfairly. See if you can find one of those talent contracts that ADULTCON gives you. Talk about being lawyered up the ass! Minimum prices for this and that. Models could not hand out their business cards. I heard a few media or photogs were warned about giving their cards. I heard one staff member tell a model she could not sell her t-shirt because "that type of model" does not do that. You can find a staff member or two peering at models' photos around the show. You could not mention about any shows, in particular Exxotica, AEE, etc. You can only mention your web site in a specific way. Yes, people found ways around it. One model gave away her t-shirt if a fan bought two or more photos, for example. It also reminds me of a news article (link), where GlamorGirl severed all ties with ADULTCON because of censorship. Apparently, they wanted all reference to other adult industry tradeshows be deleted or removed from any magazine being distributed at their show. Talk to a vendor, and you may find it likely that they did not make a profit at the show. Also not a surprise when you start hearing that some vendors were asked to come back and that the booth cost would be "free." Some ask, why do some stars come back? Maybe it's not by choice. Or perhaps the group that represents the talent is willing to spend the money in order to provide coverage and publicity to the said talent. However, if one group can find a way to provide a venue for everyone and do that with a reasonable level of respect and fairness, then ADULTCON's days are numbered. [Link] |
