There are so many good looking, hot, sexy, cute, and yummy girls that have gotten into porn since 2001 and it just blows my mind. Because they could have a more lucrative career doing fashion, bikini, or nude modeling or dancing but they get into porn thinking they are going to be the next "Ginger Lynn" or "Jenna Jameson" which is not going to happen simply because the industry, money hungry porn companies, directors, talent agencies, male pornstars, and and naiveness of alot of female pornstars prevent it from happening. Back in the 1970's there were two top pornstars Marilyn Chambers and Seka. You don't hear about them now. In the 1980's it was Ginger Lynn and you hear about her but from years of drug use and pissing away all her money she is not what she was back in the 80's. The most known pornstar of all time is Jenna Jameson and will be for a long time. From 1995 till now she has ruled the industry with her sexiness, class, grace, charm, and her good business sense. In the porn industy the big bucks or bank is made by the companies Vivid, etc or porn directors. Jenna Jameson is the only pornstar in along time to come along and make a impact like she did and still does and to become a multimillionaire on top of it all. She did it too doing it her way. She made the business work for her instead of her working for the business and being a slave to it and I like her for that. This business is a cruel tough business that likes to take young naive girls and chew them up and spit them out when there done with them. Jenna was tough and smart and didn't let that happen to her and she never did anal or gangbangs and she is a true superstar but girls today are fed the bullshit that in order to be a superstar like Jenna Jameson, etc they have to do anal, atm's, dp's, gangbang's etc when that isn't so.
Plus these girls don't get paid enough money that justifies doing anal, atm,dp,gangbang. to me a few 1000 dollars is not enough. These girls should be thinking about their health and down the road to the future and how the biz can affect them mentally, emotionally, and physically. These girls should be getting at least 10,000.00 for a scene and then if anal comes into it should be 50,000.00 for that scene because if they happen to catch AIDS or something else where they are laid up in the hospital for a long period of time at least they are financially set and don't have to worry about bills, etc. Well this business needs a total overhaul and self check before I would consider doing it. Plus the testing needs improvement because I bet there are alot of girls and guys that are infected as I speak and they get work because of who they know.

Wow! What a bold statement there. Are you going to be the one to pay that much money to the girls? IF so plan on getting alot of calls in the next day. The porn market is flooded with movies each year and because of that you won't be able to turn a profit if you pay the help that much money. You can't compare mainstream to porn. As far as HIV testing goes. I think the industry has the top of the line testing. Sure there are still risks but I believe all people that perform are aware of the risks. Hey, I am a RN and at risk when I take care of HIV+ patients and Hep. C + patients but I still do. Some jobs have other risks.

uh oh - i sense a locked thread coming up

for what its worth i think the girls should get paid more - not $10,000-$50,000 - but more than a couple hundred bucks for doing what they do for us...

present rates are still good money though!

Maybe a slight raise is in order? I think I have read somewhere that the average pay for your standard boy/girl sex scene is around $1000-1500... That's good money for about 1/4th of a day's worth of sex, but how about $1500-2000. These producers and directors of porn could still make impressive profits, and this would provide more incentive for newbies to the business to stay and prosper. In the end, its all about greed, and I doubt that producers and directors are willing to change the status quo in the porn world.

I've been thinking lately that there's an analogy for relatively low porn pay in the world of reality tv.

1. endless supply of individuals who want "exposure"

2. large market with an intense interest in new faces/new acts from those new faces

3. very cheap production costs compared to mainstream product.

4. extremely rapid turnover of show/contestants/performers

there are enough threads on why ladies get into porn, but I'd point out that pay/scene doesn't make sense. For a long while it was really the ability to take porn notoriety and turn it into a feature dancing career. For some ladies, it also greatly enhances their asking price for escorting. More recently, there's been the promise of making money from a website. Also in some cases, you can trade suitcase pimp types for low level rich guys who might look after you.

Reality show contestants appear to get into it for some combination of exposure that might lead to acting/talk show career, desire for fame/notoriety, as way to pick up women/men. They generally don't do it because the pay for appearing on the show is good.

The problem:
If you find someone who's really good, an actress whom the market wants to see over and over for a period of years....the economics of porn make it difficult to keep that star concentrating on making porn movies. The real money is in feature dancing, being Juli Ashton, getting on Howard Stern, etc. The movies themselves sell based on box covers etc., but single movies don't make enough money to pay big bucks to the talent (with a few exceptions).
What we get instead is lots and lots of new faces of varying quality who have little incentive to actually stay in the business should they become suddenly popular. One result is that by the time a new star's movies hit the market, she may already be retired or very close to retirement. Sadly, that makes for mediocre product more than 90% of the time.

So, yeah, I'd love to see a system where a hot woman could be a pornstar as an actual career choice for a few years.
And yeah, it would mean a lot more money/scene.
But, the system as it exists won't let it happen.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for the porn version of Average Joe or the Bachelor.

With the greatest of effort I am holding my tongue and I will now proceed with civil discourse on this issue.

Greed? My friend if you knew what the profit margin was on your standard run-of-the-mill porn flick you'd be astounded. If Microsoft ran on such thin margins they'd be de-listed from NASDAQ and you'd be typing your posts on a Radio Shack Tandyvision 1.0. Many people in the biz spend the entire profit of a release solely to finance the next release. Actual income is generated by re-orders and foreign rights ( both of which vary wildly depending on the company)
Do people get rich in Porn? Yes. So what? People get rich owning McDonalds franchises too. It's called capitalism. It's worked pretty well since 1776. The reason for the ostensibly accurate figure of 10,000 new releases a year from porn valley is because the profit is made in quantity. Quality is important only to the discerning porn connoisseur. Everyone else just rents up a copy of Cum Guzzling Whore who take it in the Ass Volume 327. That being said, the companies who are presently very successful make every effort to deliver both quality and quantity but many of you have no doubt at one time purchased or rented from a company that obviously does not.
As far as the risk of AIDS, the risk is there for every human having sex, on film or off, unless you know the complete sexual history of your partner. In porn there is mandatory monthly testing. That chick you picked up at a bar last week probably couldn't pass a spelling test. In short, porn actors and actresses get paid what the market dictates. This is not child labor in the Xang province of China; this is a 20 year old girl who hasn't figured out what she wants of life making a grand or more for 90 minutes of work.

Quaze

P.S. I have no idea whether or not Xang is a province in China:) Also, while on the subject of pay raises, quality camera people and Directors and woefully neglected financially!

Great comments Quaze. I kind of had a feeling that the profit margins werent that enormous in porn. Thanks for the info.

Txtstallion. I think you need to think out your rant a little. 50,000 a scene no matter of talent or looks or is this just for top talent? It doesnt really matter, but this would be a total waste of money. Porn studios would be going bankrupt by the dozen.

I mean come on man, its sex, not leading the free world. Not all of these girls in porn are capable of being lawyers, and its still a place where they can go and make a damn good living if they want to work. Plus like Quaze said, it is far safer than going out and having sex with someone you meet at the pub.

Lots of jobs have far more risk than being in porn. Cops doent make shit, but yet they go out there and risk thier lives for Us schmucks, Firemen too, and many others.

I think porn talent make damn good money to be honest. A couple hours of work, and thats if you call sex, work, even if the scene isnt that good or the talent isnt all that talented, to walk away with 500-1500 dollars, how is that bad. Maybe I'm missing something.

If what quaze said is true that the camera and behind the scenes people are underpaid, then that in my opinion is the tragedy, because those people can really make the difference, and make less attractive people look hot and can add a lot to a scene, and make hot talent look scorching.

Some humbling math

Rookie cop - $35,000 a year
Rookie porn chick - $100,000 a year or more

Granted, the cop will get raises and beneits and he has a lifelong career but porn girls aren't usually getting shot at ( unless they have a particularly jealous suitcase pimp)

A very good friend of mine is a fireman in Newport Beach and he makes far less than me and certainly less than your average porn chick. Sad but true.

Julia Roberts has probably never done anal. Certainly not a D.P and she makes 20 mil a picture. No one said that life was fair :)

Basic economics is all it is. If all the girls held out until they got more money or they wouldn't shoot porn than then it would raise the price on the market. Maybe less movies would be made because of it. It's just getting nuts with how many porns are being made nowadays. Women made much better money back in the Gold age of Porn and before but how many porns a year were being made????

Ah, yes... the Golden Age of Porn. Back when I wasn't even a teenager yet.
And when videos cost $80 each.

The AVERAGE profit from a gonzo video. It's not even the $50,000 that you propose to pay EACH of the 5 to 8 girls in the video.

Yes, girls go through a lot when they're in videos. But half the girls who do it would be lucky if they could hold down a job where they made one tenth the money that they do from being a porn girl. But there's quite a few girls who understand that it's not the scenes that make them the money. It's the career that comes after the scenes.

I've seen enough complaining from fans about how expensive videos and DVDs are already that I can hardly imagine the fans kicking in so much as another $5 per video.

And those greedy porn producers are the ones who are putting themselves at risk of going to jail, not the girls.

I think they make too much money! Where else besides
prostitution & selling drugs, can a un-educated person
make that kind of fast cash in such a short time? Some make more than doctors & lawyers I hear. LOL

But the girls deserve it all at the end

I'm not disagreeing with what you're all saying here, but I think it's going to be one of those odd situations where market forces somehow work to the detriment of individual taste and actual quality.

Computer graphics are improving rapidly. Within a generation, it'll likely be possible to do porn without the actors. You'll be able to take old images of Ginger Lynn and Angel, enhance them and make completely new movies where they do things they never actually did on camera.
Besides, who knows what the porn experience will be by then. It could involve something other than a screen and the traditional movie format.
But, bottom line, we could soon be seeing pressure to eliminate "on camera talent" completely. Companies might hire people to pretend to be the actors/actresses who don't actually exist, a la Simone.
The current structure suggests to me that once this becomes possible, human actresses might simply disappear from the formula much sooner than we think. The male actors will likely disappear even sooner. If it does happen that way, it'll be sad.
I'd like to see ways for someone to make a good living at porn long enough so that he or she can master the craft of doing sex scenes. It sounds like the current structure works agains that happening for the female talent.

Is there a "set" industry price for each type of scene...and does it go up and down based on who the PornStar is and which company is making the flick??? I have always wondered about this. If anyone knows the "insider" info on this, post away...cause I am sure Im not the only one who wonders about this.

There is no set payment. There is a usual payment range that most companies appear to adopt. It does differ from performer to performer, a high profile, highly demanded performer whose name will be a sales draw will make more than a no-name, average, or less than average, performer.

The girls in porn make an okay amount of money they just don't save it and think about the future for the most part then they escort or end up doing milf stuff at an older age.

Too simplistic for today's market, or even back in 2003.
