This is warning number two] to view porn online. They're allegedly doing it to protect under 18's from easy access to porn. I mean would this like forcing thieves to prove they are indeed thieves and give an ID? also doen any of those know there are torrents out there and free storage site which do not require any registration at all? will the word backdoor entrance stay legal? Click to expand I very much doubt that the UK government has much powers to go after legal porn sites based outside of the UK. They may find ways to block them of course but would've thought that they had bigger fish to fry with illegal sites showing abuse rather than consensual legally produced porn. Porn was illegal in the UK for a long time but that ended with the onset of the internet which they could not control. Not sure it's any different now. [Link]

None of them have any clue about the internet or how the public use it. And they keep coming up with new regulations that merely punish law-abiding, consenting adults in order that they be seen to be doing something, no matter how misdirected. It's all part of a current cultural obsession with an interfering nanny state. Cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, fat, plastic bags, online speech, advertising... they're constantly pushing to regulate, tax and police the public's activity. Sadly, there are a lot of people in society who are naively or malevolently supportive of ever greater government interference in private citizens' rights, freedoms and choices. It's regressive, yet they cynically label it "progressive". Obviously there are far more sinister undertones to this sort of behaviour from government. But in the case of porn I believe it's mainly prudish, out of touch, politically correct politicians who are being lobbied by censorious puritans to be seen to be doing something to protect children online. The concept of parental responsibility has taken a backseat to government regulation. [Link]
