The problem with porn now is that every fucking director thinks he's trying to shoot an indie film or something. What is up with all the gloss, depth of field, etc.? It's absolutely awful. The scenes they have at sites like Porn Pros, Blacked, and Hard X are absolutely atrocious. It's completely sterile, and the girls might as well be fucking robots.
Another problem is that everyone seems to be having too much of a good time.

^You may be right about network TV shows having more attendance but part of the reason is that network TV is still more or less free and therefore available to almost everyone so the total number of viewers is going to significantly higher than for cable TV which people have to buy to watch. Cable channels don't need advertising because they make a huge profit on the paying membership of it's customers so all of their shows are already profitable before broadcast. Network TV shows need advertising dollars to be able to survive and that means that all their shows only make a profit once they sell that advertising space and that's why so many new shows last but a few weeks.
Since I already said that attendance was at it's lowest since 95 then you already know that people aren't willing to watch recycled crap. In fact people aren't willing to watch most of what Hollywood puts out.

Porn use to be more consumer friendly than mainstream movie industry. Porn had more variety and a niche for everyone. It didn't rely on marketing and advertisers to sell tickets porn use to listen to it's customers. That is one reason why what is going on now is political. You talking about a industry that had everything from little people to obese porn now it is just all white b/g. That can't be a accident and what is more disturbing is things don't seem to be changing any time soon.

I agree with you. Everytime this sort of subject comes up I notice many of the posters complaining about there being "too much of this or that" and "not enough this or that" seem to be only watching the same type of porn and somehow expecting something different. Of course they're going to eventually get bored with it because a specific type of porn that sticks to a specific formula.
Another thing I don't think gets mentioned is I think much of this boredom comes from the fact that so many people are able to watch so much porn so easily now as opposed to the days when porn was a bit more special because there wasn't so much of it and people had to pay for all the porn they watched...and it wasn't cheap.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I wonder how much the typical hardcore porn fan likes Dana's or any of the women directors EVIL ANGEL has or had. All those female directors seemed to do more creative stuff that many of the male director's same old same old but I get the feeling a lot of guys aren't into it. For all the talk about wanting something different I've never gotten the impression that tose complaing really want something different...just certain aspects they don't like dropped.
I don't know if that will ever change much. It seems that in most features and parodies all the creative efforts go into the non-sexual aspects of the movie and they go back to auto-pilot when it comes to the sex scenes. In a way I kinda understand because it seems most fans want to see a certain type of sex scene regardless of the movie plot. Me personally, I'd like to see a sex scene that actually fits the movie's tone and characters. It's a shame that all that work goes into all the other aspects of the movie and a usually very generic sex scene is shot for the movie.

I know you and others are fans of the old 70s feature stuff but I really don't think would really hold much interest in today's porn world. I think there's a reason that type of porn went away and never really made a comeback. More than anything I think that type of porn was porn trying not to be porn. Back in the day of it playing in theatres it needed to be closer to "legit" movies with sex thrown in. Once porn was able to be watched in the privacy of your own home there wasn't really a need for that pretense anymore. I don't think most people back then were going to see those movies because they were so great but because they were sex films. Some were better written/done sex films but the sex was the real reason people went to see them. When people were able to watch them at home they could just enjoy the actual sex more without putting up with a movie plot and acting they'd never sit through otherwise.
People talking about the acting and directing back them as opposed to today but I don't think there was as huge a difference as they claim. Yeah, there were a few good actors back then but the majority of pornstars weren't all that good. Today we have plenty of girls on the same acting level as many of the girls back then and they look so much better overall. I think there are some directors today who are on par with some of those in the 70s but they don't have the crews or the time or budget to get the same sort of results on screen.
Because today's porn is all about the sex. That's what most people want. The longer a plot keeps the sex from happening the more those fans will become frustrated with that movie.

For me personally, porn isn't dull. In fact it's better than ever because of streaming I'm seeing and have access to movies, scenes and stars I've never seen before and wouldn't have otherwise. But if I had to just limit it to the new porn being produced by today's major studios I watch less of it than before mostly because of so many of my fav porngirls have retired and I'm not that into the newer girls. There are some I think are great but overall they just don't do it for me like many of the girls of the past did/do. And from my standpoint there's really no need to buy/watch the new stuff that doesn't appeal to me when there's so much older stuff out there that I've never seen.
I don't think it's a director thing because I don't think a director suddenly doesn't know how to direct as well as he/she did before. I don't think money is a big factor either because as the most important things are the girl following directions and having a camera to capture it. Unlike many of you here the sex acts aren't the most important aspect of what I watch if I'm into the girl I'm happy with a more vanilla scene than a girl I'm not into doing extreme stuff. I don't get bored because I watch for the girl and not a steady diet of the same type of sex over andover again.

If what you say is true then please explain to me why studios like Wicked, New Sensation, Digital Playground, Vivid and Hustler are all still for the most part making story driven porn. I know many of their films tend to be more or less forgettable but they must be making money or they wouldn't still be doing them. I think their are many factors that contributed to the disappearance of feature porn films like those made in the 70's and 80's. The first is that the people producing those movies stopped making porn. Many of the early film directors were graduate of film school and therefore knew everything you need to know to make feature films. How many of todays director has even attended one film class? Another is the cost in making those movies became increasingly higher and therefore less profitable. The switch from 35mm film to VHS cameras helped because no matter how good a director is. A movie filmed on a VHS camera will never look as impressive as the one on film. Finally the performers in front of the camera were no longer capable of actually playing a role without looking like terrible actors. That's not to say that you don't have some decent actors in the industry today but they are the tiny minority when compared to most of the other performers.
I completely agree with you that the people making those epic porn movies of the Golden Age weren't trying to make what we now consider to be a porn movie and that is the major appeal for people like me. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Seduction of Lyn carter. The sex is not that impressive when compared to stuff made in the 90's and later on, the lighting is not that good and the camera shots are limited when it comes to the porn scenes but there is a story and there is amazing acting and instead of looking at two people fucking on screen. I'm watching two people that could be real and for the purpose of the film are real characters and that adds so much to the sex scenes that they outweigh the negatives. I don't really expect to convert anyone that thinks todays porn is the greatest because our view points are too far apart. I would just be happy to see something other than gonzo porn.
Probably true but in the 90's and early 2000 you still had gonzo porn with a small scenario. Are you telling me that even that is too long for most porn viewers today?

Ah, well there you go. I think that's what many of us are talking about. For whatever reason, what's not liked about the videos being made, today, right now.
I'm certainly in agreement with you about the access to past vids that new technology gives us.

The one area where I feel porn today is maybe missing something, is simply not having that "porn feel". Most stuff today is very professional looking; sharp, crisp, clean, cooler color palettes, and the more open widescreen aspect ratio that makes you feel a little more distant and detached from the action. Maybe the tighter framing, slightly orange flesh tones and lower resolution that most porn had before the transition to HD in the mid 2000's, just gave it a more intimate and sleazy feel. It could be like how many music lovers still prefer vinyl records from analog sources because they sound more "organic" than 24 bit digital.

Isn't this simply due to the fact that there's less money to be made? I think there are a lot of free porn sites nowadays: less people are tempted to pay for their porn. I'm not sure, but I feel like the porn that's coming out, is the product of some big, established companies that repeat their success-formulae, and there are virtually no small, independent studios/directors which produce material anymore. I'm not sure, but I think it was easier to 'make it to the mainstream' when the internet was not around.

As far as creativity and originality in productions, I can see how one might view things as "dull" right now. However, in the "grand scheme of things," I don't see what there is to complain about in regards to today's porn. Consider the facts:
-High definition porn has become standard, it's no longer a rarity and something you have to pay extra for.
-Porn site memberships are relatively cheap and with one, you instantly have access to hundreds of dollars worth of DVDs.
-If you're like me and still enjoy/prefer watching DVDs, there are sites out there like AdultDVDMarketplace in which you can purchase practically any (new) DVD for $20 or less.
-This one's subjective, but as far as I'm concerned, today's girls are just as hot and willing to do hot 'n nasty sex acts as ever before.
-Most importantly (I know it's been brought up already), the ridiculously easy access to porn nowadays is so awesome that we're now just plain spoiled!
Needless to say, I'd rather be where I am today than some mope trying to watch porn in the early 2000's or prior. Anyone who yearns for everything from those "yesteryears" is just nostalgic, as we all are with certain subjects. Whether it's porn, television, movies, sports, etc., we'll all find something that we will argue was better back in our day. More often than not, we're wrong about it.

There's still a demand for features but I was talking about the kind made in the 70s where the majority of the film was devoted to the story and the sex scenes were short and wasn't the driving factor of the story. As I mentioned and you aknowledged the sex scenes are the most important asect of today's features. The reason I like DIGITAL PLAYGROUND's features is because the main plot is there just to justify getting to the next sex scene and it moves things along fairly fast. They aren't trying be clever or deep it's just a simple plot to highlight the sex. For me where the 70s stuff fails is if I watch it as porn it doesn't quite deliver because the sex scenes are so short and there often isn't enough sex secenes in the movie. the 70s stuff fails as an actual movies because yeah, compared to lots of other porn the writing may be sometimes be better but copared to the vast majority of mainstream stuff it falls way short. If I'me in the mood for a watching a movie I'd never go to the 70s porn stuff. If I'm in the mood for watching some great sex I'd go to porn from other eras (but there are a few 70s pornstars I enjoy watching).
As far as the whole thing about the 70s guys all being "real" film directors...maybe. But there were still plenty of them that still weren't that good. I'm sure there are some directors with legit film training but I don't think it's that big a deal and they don't keep telling people they are because justifying what they do isn't as important as the 70s directors who wanting to make themselves seem like more than just a guy making porn.
I'll gladly take the look of today's over the look of the 70s stuff. Most of the 70s stars were terrible actors also and there were just a few who were actually good and they're the same handful most people keep talkin about. Today's roles and acting styles are different so I don't know if a straight on comparison is completely fair. Plus there seems to be more bad actors because there so many more pornstars overall compared to the small group of the 70s.
Just giving you the perspective of someone who isn't as taken with 70s porn and explaining why. Thre's plenty of non-gonzo stuff out there but it's not made for someone with your tastes.
The scenario type porn still exists. We're seeing less of it because it's simply harder to do and takes more time. It's much easier for people to just shoot a girl posing in a room and the guy suddenly appears and they just start going at it.

^I'm not sure if you already said so but which era of porn do you keep returning to. Is it the stuff that has been made in the last 5 years or so or do your taste go further back? Mine are very eclectic so except for most of the porn made in the last 5 years or so. I tend to enjoy everything else. Of course 70's and 80's porn is still by far my favorite era to choose from but the 90's gave us some amazing porn. Probably in large part because we got to finally see more hardcore stuff on screen when directors chose to shoot from more advantageous angles.

I'm really all over the place when it comes to the porn I watch. As I've said before, for me it's all about the girl so when I come across a performer I like buy/rent/watch their stuff. I'm not a fan of 70s porn per se but I'm a big fan of Kay Parker, Sue Nero, Candida Royalle and Summer Rose so I end up watching some of the 70s stuff (mostly compilations). It's a different vibe watching that era. My biggest complaints is that the scenes were just so short and too much time is spent not showing any penetration but I like watching those women so I put up with it. I don't particularly like VIVID's stuff but I'm a big fan of Christy Canyon, Chasey Lain, Kira Kenner, and Tera Patrick. I'm fine with VIVID's actual sex scenes but I have no interest in the stories of their features. I like their complilations though. But I have to admit I'm only a fan of Christy, Chasey, and Tera of certain eras of their career. Not much of a fan of pre-VIVID Tera. I prefer Christy during her early days and early VIVID era.

That's how it works or most of the pornstars I like. There are lots of pornstars I come across and like and their career is long over. That's great for me because I can cherry pick the best of their work and get it cheap. I've become a big fan of Jewels Jade and Sarah Jessie in the past few months so I'm watching their stuff from various studios. The stuff they do for the biggger studios will usually be the best but not always. I can enjoy their BRAZZERS, NAUGHTY AMERICA, BANG BROS, JULES JORDAN, EVIL ANGEL stuff with no problems. I sometimes like the "harder" stuff but I'm okay with the more "vanilla" stuff with girls like them. But...there are girls who are a waste doing the "lighter" stuff. Someone like Sheena Shaw she excels when she's performing extreme acts.
So I'm usually watching porn from all eras depending on the girl. When I see people comparing and preferring directors old stuff over their new work I usually don't agree and think their new stuff is almost always better technically. It's the performers that usually make the difference. If I had to pick a fav era I'd say the current era for the sex acts and from a technical standpoint and a fav era for the women I'd say from the 2000s to today for the emphasis on bubble butts and having the widest range of different types of girls. But I do miss the 90s era super huge breast era. BIG TOP VIDEO, SCORE, BOOB CRUISES.

There's still good gonzo and some vignette (I would like more) porn being made but clearly the tube sites have had a huge impact on an industry that had already cut production values to the bone starting in the late 80s.
I was a young man watching porn then and through the 90s but it was of really terrible quality, I couldn't find practically anything I liked except for John Leslie's stuff. It was my discovery of 70s feature porn through my interest in the B and horror films of that decade that got me interested in porn again and then I discovered the gonzo porn of people like Silvera, Mason, Malone and performers like early Rocco, Belladonna, Gianna Michaels, etc. I'd say the real golden age of gonzo for me was from the mid-2000s til just a few years ago.
I think the main issue is just the drop in production, with less stuff being made the chances of those exceptional scenes happening drop in frequency.

^So you are basically saying that we are now back in the 80's when you only had a finite number of movies coming out each month and you would have to be very lucky to find one or maybe two amazing ones out of the bunch. Been there done that so I know what to expect.

I really don't relate to much of this discussion going on. Quality-wise and technicaly I don't see much of a difference in today's output (what's left of it anyway) from the people who did what I consider good stuff from the past. For example I don't look at a JULES JORDAN movie from years ago and think it was better directed or shot than his current stuff. The biggest diffrence I see are the women and perhaps the length. I think his current stuff is overall superior technically. I feel the same about most other directors I like. People mention budget but seems to be with the smaller or newer studios/sites that don't have the money for locations and props or at least it's most noticable with them. But realistically if the direction, camera work and talent are good you can still end up with good porn even if there's close to no budget.
As far as "creativity" goes that's a tough one because there's only so many sexual things performers can do and as this thread makes clear everyone wants different things. The people doing creative stuff get ignored and most people flock to the old familiar stuff but then expect it to be somehow different after watching the same stuff repeatedly. If it's too different it chases people way if they stick with the proven formula at some point boredom sets in.
When it comes to the girls I tend think some people just prefer them at a certain moment in time or with a certain look. Because realistically again it's hard to imagine a girl's performance skills getting worse with time. Or some people just get tired of seeing them after awhile and just want the next new girl.
Then there are the people who don't really care about the girl and for them it's all about whatever sex act they want to see. I think those people will always get bored the quickest and they'll never be happy for long. For them it will always wantig to see things go to the next level because you can only watch the same thing for so long without wanting it to go farther.

Things will not change until consumers admit all white porn is bland and boring. It's more about promoting a white male agenda instead of giving customers what they want. Check out the latest Brown Bunnies on Bangbros. The sheer ridiculousness of that guy with Jezabel Vessir (who might prefer white guys btw) is hard to watch. The industry will dry up unless consumers speak up.

And what has the last Brown Bunnies scene to do with that? That's a black performer fucking Jezabel Vessir there... so, what do you want to tell us with that example?

Since you say you are a consumer and you want to have your voice heard then please tell everyone reading this thread which site do you currently belong to(or did so recently) and/or which were the last few movies you bought. This way anyone reading the thread can see what you enjoy and we can better appreciate where you are coming from. In case you are wondering why I asking this then the simple answer is this. There are now two types of consumers. Those that pay for porn and are allowed to offer an opinion and those that don't who should avoid saying anything because they haven't earned the right to do so. It's exactly like voting. if you vote then you have every right to bitch about the government but if you don't then shut up because you had your chance and chose to not amend yourself of your obligation to vote.

lol Sounds like you have appointed yourself judge and jury of all opinions about porn. That is the point I was making about the industry becoming politicized. I never said I was a consumer in fact I am more of a supplier or use to be anyway. My opinion is like any other opinion you can take it or not. My experience with the industry is what my observations are based on however.

You are right, it was my fault, going after the pics only (which are most probably from (a) different scene(s), since they show the male talent e.g. with knee pads, like Prince Yahshua has them). The trailer shows that it's David Loso who is a (white) Latino.

That's more or less the answer I thought you would give and I'm rather disappointed that I wasn't wrong. I was really hoping you would come up with some actual proof that you are part of the solution rather than the problem. I can't emphasize the importance of my previous post. The only people who's opinion counts are the people paying for porn. Everybody else is more than entitled to an opinion but in my book it's not worth anything because they don't pay for the product they are complaining about so who cares what they think.
Exactly what does "more of a supplier" mean? Are you a porn producer?

I totally agree that this is a huge factor. The industry doesn't have any $ anymore.
As for the lack of variety or creativity of the content, I think that along with the reduced production budgets a less obvious factor is the large decrease in production companies who, had they been bought out or gone out of business, might still be contributing new ideas. Even more so, the companies that were bought out are now all owned by the the same company. I would be surprised if that didn't have some influence over the current production line conveyor belt feel that has taken over our smut these days.

This problem is easy to fix..if one company is killing porn then deal with that company get rid of it before it gets rid of the industry. If consumers want variety then don't settle for less..

There really isn't much porn being made as compared to even just a couple years ago. Why? Because people aren't paying for it as often. For more porn to be made and better quality everyone needs to start actually supporting the industry againm

As a guy who started out with a taste for gonzo and amateur material who progressed to G/G material and a few favorites like FakeTaxi/Czech Streets - I can tell you for me what has made porn decidedly less spectacular than it started out being. 1) Extreme is the new normal - no more 5-8 guy gangbangs, it has to be 40 guys leaving her covered in fluids that you only get to see at the end of the scene because there's a mass of male bodies blocking your view. DP was so last year, if you can't fit five cocks in both orifices along with a baseball bat and a vacuum cleaner then it's just not really hardcore enough. 2) IR - What is the point of having a guy who is ridiculously well endowed if you know she is barely going to be able to take HALF of his cock inside her without walking funny and being too sore to work for nearly a month?? It's not coincidence that the male performers of the year are people like Mick Blue and Manuel Ferrera who are well hung but not obscenely endowed yet who create an almost magical intensity working with what they've got. 3) For me, a great scene involves a critical loss of control as in watching her go over the edge or better yet, having her going over the edge and her tight pussy sending him into almost premature orgasm. I am so tired of scenes where people are faking bliss as they go through the requisite motions to reach the finish line so they can get their paycheck and go home. 4) Kind of like sports entertainment - it's unbelievably difficult to pull off successful gimmick porn because almost everything has been done. You have a few folks who are still able to milk it like Fake Taxi/FakeCop, Netvideo girls and their BS calendar auditions and the whole premise of the casting couch whether we're talking Backroom or Casting Couch X. That being said, I am grateful for the fact that at least some people like Bree Mills and Stills By Alan along with Mile High(Sweetheart Video/Sweet Sinner) are finally making porn scenes that make use of the biggest sex organ in the human body - the brain. Yes it's trial and error to put the right performers together to create a spark that will have me hard and chomping at the bit but when the right connections are made - damn it's as breathtaking to watch the second and third time as it was the first.
